  1. Nice, in theory if you think about it we are literally shoring up every problem we have had over the past couple of seasons.

-Goalline and short yardage RB problems with Dalone Carter and better beef on the Oline

-More beef in the DT spot so we dont get run over all game

And now a coach to make all the smart timeout choices we've should of had the past couple of years.

    16-0

  2. Nah theres no way were gonna win this game. Peyton isnt gonna play and Kerry is gonna be knocked out 1st play and put into the retirement home. Painter then proceeds to throw a new NFL record 8 picks all returned by Mario Williams; Texans new OLB for touchdowns. Pat Mcaffe is the highlight of the loss with his kickoffs going into the gulf. He later jumps in after the game with no shirt in a attempt to retrieve his balls.

    Texans-82

Colts- -4 - cuz AV misses a FG so they take away lol

  3. Yes he does those things, as long as he is at the second level (which your highlight video that you so proudly posted, shows with great clarity). Now if only he'd be comfortable enough to hit a hole when it's open rather than running directly into a blocked defender and falling to the ground, he'd really be something

Um falling at the line of scrimmage for a 1 yrd loss is a lot better than trying to cut it to the outside when theres nothing there and end up losing 4. Anytime DB has had a hole to run through he hits it straight and square, a lot better than Addai does.

People seem to forget that our run blocking the past couple of seasons has been horrible to say the least. If its gonna be anywhere improved this year which is what its looking like, our RB's will be fine.

  4. RB hasn't been a feature position for the Colts since EJ's days. All we need is function from our group and we'll get it. The most notable shortcoming has been 3rd & short and it appears that's being addressed via the line improvements and Delone Carter.

Regarding Brown, he's got a career 3.8ypc. Addai is a career 4.1ypc runner. Even Marshall Faulk averaged just 3.85ypc as a Colt. All we need from Brown is 4.0 or a shade better, plus improved pass blocking. He's already good receiving out of the backfield with over 12 ypc for his career, although limited.

Judging by his early performances this year, his pass blocking has improved by leaps and bounds. That's the big one. Since his ypc have increased from 3.6 to 3.9 between 2009 and 2010, it's completely reasonable to believe he'll improve 1/10th or 2/10ths of a yard per carry this year, especially behind the re-worked line plus other healthy offensive starters returning. He's also capable of breaking off long runs much more so than even Joseph Addai. Fact - Brown has as many runs over 40yds in two years of limited time as Addai has had his entire Colts career. Fact - Brown already has half as many runs over 20yds in two years of limited time as Addai has had his entire Colts career.

As for the alternate hypothesis about why the Colts would bother to draft a RB in 2010 or bring other guys into camp at that position "to bump Brown", etc. .....how quickly some forget history. In 2010 we were so thin at the position we had to tap the practice squad for someone to dress, both Addai and Brown spent time hurt, called Dom Rhodes for help, plus Mike Hart is finally gone and not wasting a roster spot. The Colts do not have too many RBs in camp and I expect the rotation will be Addai/Brown/Carter, which will be more than adequate, with Brown providing his fair share. Watch.

Quoted for truth. DB is a lot better than people give him credit for. Carter, Donald and Addai will be great backs for us. They together equal what edge gave to us in one back.

  5. I'm not worried, Peyton is going to play in the opener against Houston. This is the same Peyton Manning who missed 1 snap after his jaw was broken. This isn't going to keep him out. He'll be here. :manning:

Everyone read this post please and stop worrying. Im going to put it in my sig so people understand. People were thinking the same thing in 2008. He's fine and he'll be ready week 1. ill bet anything on it.

  6. Final RB list should be this:

    Addai

    Brown

    Carter

    Evans

Put Spann and James on the practice squad and bring em up as needed per injury God forbid.

Evans has shown explosive speed that he had back in his high school days at Warren Central and the vision to make him an elite back in OUR SYSTEM. hits the hole well. Tonight he'll prove why he will make this team.

  7. NO NO you're both wrong. The Colts Texans rivalry started back when the division was formed after the Cold war in 1949. President Lincoln was in attendance at the first Colts Texans game just after France defeated Germany in WWII. The current record between these antiquated rivals stands at 87-87, a tie between the oldest and most storied franchises in the NFL. After the Packers moved from ST Lois to Green Bay, the NFL changed the name of its championship trophy from the Spaghetti Award to the Lombardi trophy.

You people don't know football history. Please do some study before posting.

    haha omg that was epic.

On topic however, the Texans switching to a 3-4 only hurts them in my opinion. They're trying to move a DE thats played DE his whole life to OLB. Let him try to cover Dallas Clark down the middle and see what happens.

  8. Yes, it gives the return team more time to make a decision and set up blocking. I'm not disputing that. I'm not saying that it is not a benefit to the return team to not allow the coverage team a running start. What I AM disputing is the notion that the coverage guys won't be going as fast when they get to the returner because they didn't have a running start. It only takes 10 to 15 yards to accelerate to top speed from standstill. After those initial 10 to 15 yards, the coverage team isn't moving any faster with a running start than they were without one. Certainly by the time they get to the returner they're not running any faster. It just took longer to cover those initial 10 to 15 yards starting from standstill than it would have with a running start.

They're really not, the 15 yards that it takes to reach full acceleration use to be done before the ball was even kicked but with the new rule in effect, players must have a foot on the 30 yard line before taking off, meaning that the full acceleration wont be reached till the 50 where blockers on the return team are ready to meet them, forcing blocking schemes and overall will and strength to be the determining factor, not head starts.

  9. I really don't buy that logic. By the time a guy gets 20 yards downfield, he's going full speed regardless of whether he had a running start or not. It will take him longer to get 20 yards downfield if he has to start from standstill instead of taking a running start, but he's not going any faster or slower at that point. It will take the coverage team longer to get to the returner and allow for a longer return if they can't take a running start, but the coverage team is still going to be going full tilt by the time they get to the returner.

Not exactly. 5 yards makes a whole lot of difference in terms of highest speed reached especially with a running start. It makes sense. If a player is willing to return it from 5 yards deep in the end zone and has the blocking set up to do it, he could break it or either be down at the 10. Maximizes the decision making of the returner.

  10. What basically I was saying is, if you look at the plays where Evans did do good, the offensive line was doing pretty good and he could of walked through the running lanes.

I was not high on Spann either, I liked his speed, but like you said fumbling the kickoffs could come back and haunt him.

I also agree with you on Brown, he showed some great signs yesterday. Hopefully he can keep it up.

I mean Spann and Carter had some pretty big holes to run through too.. I'd like to see Evans and Carter get more work with the 2nd/1st team in the coming weeks to further evaluate their talent. I've been following Evans since his days here at Warren Central and he showed signs of the speed that made him one of the best RB's in the country out of high school his senior year. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Agreed. In a league where one play can make or break your career as a rookie, those could be the ones that get him edged out.

  11. Why? He had grand canyons to run through, and against 3rd/4th stringers. Also, it was only a couple runs.

So your saying he ran against 3/4th stringers when he himself is considered a 3/4th stringer? lol okay.

People are raving about Chad Spann but he had just as many big runs as Evans ontop of fumbling twice on kickoffs. In the NFL, every play matters in terms of evaluation.

But on topic, Donald Brown looked a lot quicker and more decisive. Remember, when we won our sb back in 06', we had Dominic Rhodes starting and Addai has the specialty back. Could possibly see us go back to that philosophy with donald and addai at some point this season if db lives up to potential.

  12. If this is true, it would be a good sign for us. As someone mentioned earlier, it is tough seeing Gonzo and Collie healthy throughout the whole season as much I like both of them as players. T.J. would also make a really good red zone threat as he still shows signs of being a physical receiver. Oh and for those that want to knock him about the pass he dropped in the Steelers-Ravens playoff game last year, just remember how many drops Boldin had in that same game as well, with Boldin suppose to be being the #1 guy and arguably a top 10-15 receiver. Manning and him have had a history of good chemistry at the Pro Bowl as well.
