  1. NOTE: Long post ahead to explain. Depends on the trade…. It’s one thing to trade a pick(s) to acquire a quality player, but it’s another thing when you have to sign them to a large contract extension. Otherwise, all you’re doing is renting the player for a short stay. For example, in the last week or so we had a window where a popular trade idea here was to trade a high pick to Denver to CB Patrick Surtain. That was a very popular view. I tried to explain if the Colts acquired Surtain odds are the Colts would have to sign him to a contract of roughly 5/95 with roughly a $25-35m signing bonus and maybe $50m guaranteed. That’s roughly the deal recently signed by Dallas CB, Diggs. (Sorry, can’t remember his first name) And I don’t think Ballard would ever want to sign a corner— ANY corner — to such a contract. That’s man-corner type of money, not zone-corner, and I don’t see Ballard painting himself into a corner by having to sign a corner to that type of contract. I see JuJu as the Colts future CB1. I don’t see a future CB2 commanding big money. Hope this explains my view. Sorry it went so long.
  2. There are organizations who are in the hunt for the post season, and there are organizations that know they will not be in the playoffs this season. Big difference.
  3. A high first round pick?!? For MPJ?!? I appreciate you’re angry right now, but the Colts wouldn’t even get a first of any kind. Even a late first. Trades at the deadline are badly discounted. Trading Pitt now is not going to come close to bringing what you want.
  4. Tge best time to do a trade is in March and April leading up to the draft. That’s when you get the most value. Doing a trade at the trade deadline gets you much less value. That’s why Ballard tries to avoid trading at the deadline.
  5. Chad…. FWIW…. McCaffrey was traded for four draft picks, not two. A 2, 3, and 4, in the 23 draft and a 5 in next year's draft. San Fran paid a good price for an in-season deal….
  6. No. Because you never know when something could happen. The fact that nothing has happened so far doesn’t mean nothing will ever happen. Health is strange that way. Plus, it’s not my call. It’s the call if the team doctor who decides such things.
  7. No, it wasn’t. That’s why he fell to pick 26. Sweats agent got a doctor to say the NFL doctors report done at the combine was wrong. Is that surprising? If it had truly been debunked, he would’ve been taken top-10 where was originally projected. But he fell all the way to 26.
  8. Dear God! Ballard didn’t draft Sweat for the same reason roughly half of the NFL didn’t…. Sweat had a heart condition. That’s why a guy projected to be a top-10 pick fell to pick 26. And those decisions about who decides on guys with heart conditions are left to the team doctor and the owner. Because those are the guys who get sued if you draft him and something goes wrong. That decision is not left to the GM. In short, everything you wrote in your post is false. Goodness gracious.
  9. Chicago could make that trade far more easily as they took in a huge haul from Carolina in their trade. Also Sweat has a heart condition. If the Colts rejected him 4 years ago, I doubt the Colts team doctor would change his mind. Just sayin….
  10. I don’t know how long Bradley’s deal is with the Colts? Was it one year? Two years? I don’t know. I don’t think the Colts want to be buying out the defensive coaching staff. So to moving on from Bradley, I’d guess the answer is…. Maybe. That said, Minshew isn’t terrible. He has limitations. A team typically doesn’t plan on the backup starting roughly a dozen games or so. You hope to only need him for perhaps 4 games and get two wins. The Colts have been dealt a series of tough luck blows. Sucks to be us. But let’s not blame the rest of the season on Minshew. It’s not his fault. Honestly.
  11. I’m three years younger. I’d like to think we both have at least 12-15 more years, perhaps more. Maybe with a little luck 20 years more? Let’s hope so! As many have said, growing old is not for the faint of heart!
  12. So you don’t like Ballard, but acknowledge you like the new HC. Do you know who picked the new HC? That’s right…..
  13. First off, Young was the second overall pick in his draft. Not sure it’s fair to compare anyone to that. But having said that, Young has been injured most of his career after a very good rookie year. He hasn’t done all that much. That’s why Washington is willing to trade him. If he was what Wash hoped he’d be the Commanders wouldn’t be trying to trade him. And Sweat had a heart condition which is reportedly why the Colts didn’t draft him that night. Lots of teams passed on him in that draft. So I doubt we’d be willing to trade for him now. Those decisions are almost always made by the owner and team doctor. So I think there are legit reasons why the Colts won’t acquire either player.
  14. Sure we did. Ballard signed Justin Houston and Denico Autry and both worked out well. Plus, I’m not ready to write off Kwity and Dayo.
  15. First…. Gave him away? I believe Tenn got a first round pick. Second…. I appreciate we missed badly on Benagu, but countless other teams missed in Brown as well. I think he was picked in the 50’s. So lots of teams were wrong on Brown, not just the Colts.
  16. $80 mill in 24. $33 mill in 25. $20 mill in 26. Im not saying the Cards won’t take a QB in the draft. I just don’t know what they’ll do with Murray. If he’s not playing he has great potential to be a big distraction.
  17. Yes…. The Colts try to win. No tanking. Not even what I called a semi-tank job this year. The Colts try to win. Period. Full stop.
  18. Again…. Not true. A pure cut would be HUGELY expensive. The numbers I posted would apply.
  19. I don’t pretend to know what the Cards will do? I think they’re stuck in a situation if they’re own making.
  20. Where did you learn Arizona can get rid of Murray for little to no damage? Honestly, the opposite is true. It was written when the Cardinals signed Murray that his contract is going to be very hard to trade. For example the dead cap hits for 24, 25 and 26 are…. $81m, then $33m and then $20m. Spotrac projects the soonest the Cards might be able to get out might be 27 or 28. They’ve put themselves in contract Hell. Is it impossible? Perhaps not. But it might take a small miracle and a desperate team to make it happen. It’s a long shot.
  21. Honestly….. I’d guess there is close to a zero percent chance. Ballard has always had a clear CB1 and a secondary corner who is not nearly as good. First it was Desir, then it was Rock, then it was Gilmore and now it’s Brents. I don’t see him investing two premium picks in back to back years and down the road having to pay both premium money as well. I just don’t see Ballard changing his approach. A rare disagreement for you and me.
  22. Ballard has never spent a first round pick on a corner. He took Rock near the top of the 2nd, pick 34, then took JuJu at pick 44 after trading down twice from pick 35. With all the needs the Colts have, I don’t see CB taking a corner with the first pick.
  23. Thank you. That’s a good explanation that I hadn’t thought of. Taunting. Yet there’s a part of me that thinks viewing the peace sign as taunting is another sign of how crazy the world is these days. Go figure.
