I can't stand Florio. By his reasoning, because Luck is friends with Martin, if the Colts don't sign him, it's a red flag.
Mike Florio is Skip Bayless without the training routine.
Both of them so shackled by malice & low self-esteem that they couldn't rightly see their hands in front of their faces.

And why is that? We improve at our positions of need with this scenario and get younger on defense in the process.
We disagree on what our real positions of "need" are.

Yates is a nitwit!

Per PFT & Mike Florio
For several weeks, if not longer, we’ve said that the Colts could be the best fit for Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin, if/when (when) Martin leaves the Dolphins. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck believes it’s a good fit, too.On Wednesday, Luck told Pro Football Talk on NBCSN that he supports the idea of the bringing his former Stanford teammate to Indy. While Luck pointed out that there have been no internal conversations regarding the possibility of trading for or signing Martin, Luck made it clear that he believes in Martin. “I’d say I love Jon, we had a great time at Stanford together, still stay in touch with him regularly and I think he’s a great man,” Luck said regarding the input he’d provide, if/when (when) he’s asked about Martin. Luck said he still regularly talks to Martin, and that they spoke “[p]robably a couple days ago.” Luck seemed to be choosing his words carefully, but he ultimately provided one key word in response to the question of whether he’d be 100 percent in favor of acquiring Martin: “Yes.” The Stanford connection to Martin goes beyond Andrew Luck. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and tight end Coby Fleener also were at Stanford when Martin, a second-round pick in 2012, was there. As a result, if the Colts don’t want Martin, the flag is about as red as it could possibly be.

Remember, Cleveland still has a lot of cap room and they were willing to let him walk.
Sounds like he is a likable, classy guy but not necessarily a force at the line. Apparently he was rated by PFF as the 7th worst ILB against the run last year. Most of his tackles came downfield and it sounds like he is better suited to a 4/3. Just what I'm reading from Cleveland fans.
Maybe a Cowboys, Redskins or Tampa pick up?

I agree, but I think a young safety to go with Delano Howell is needed, as well as another LB.
The DL needs to be upgraded not just for the run, but to collapse the pocket in the passing game. 34 DE's aren't really designed to do that, but Redding does have his moments. No one else on the DL can do that. RJF was not signed to be that kind of player.
Really, when in the past 15 years have the colts got ANY pressure on the QB from the DT's or up the middle in general?
Well the issue regarding past 4/3 defenses has no bearing on this discussion. Regardless, our Ends & NT in this defense are supposed to occupy multiple blockers. Ours do not. Therefore the LBs aren't free to do what they're supposed to "create pressure" and tackle RBs.
Wanting another young Safety versus it being a weakness are two different things. I wouldn't mind another young one too. But I'm not prioritizing it above either line.
You just "want" another Safety...and so you're making stretches to imply we need one.
We'll see what happens. Another exciting draft and off-season should make clear what Grigson thinks.

Run defense is moreso a need. An ILB can help that. I agree the D-Line needs to be upgraded though. But the safety position is terrible. Bethea and Landry did nothing last season. That's the biggest weak link on our team. The corners can play decent when they want to. The safety core was just terrible.
Listen there is no greater advocate for Defense than me. But Safety play just isn't that big a deal when the reality is you can't stop the run. That is Dline and yes, LBs too. But the Safety play is not prioritized above either of those when game planning against the run. Our Safeties are good enough for now.
Regardless, our Oline is the biggest problem. Everyone knows that instinctively. A person would have to over-think it to come to some other conclusion.
Now if we address that via Free Agency, I'm all for going Defense with the draft. However even then I'd rather have Dline & LBs over Safety & CBs. We stop the run & generate pass rush and both our Safeties will go to the Pro Bowl.
-
ILB and Safety aren't the biggest needs?
Of course not.
Safety is absolutely fine. And LB is an area we need to address.
However IMO our lines should be our priority. If we address those in Free Agency, cool. But if not, our draft better not look like these.
-
The Cornerbackites'll love this one. But it doesn't touch our team's biggest needs.
-
I'd love to have him but he is too expensive. Cornerbacks just aren't that important.
-
Wow. That's interesting.

I'd be seriously disappointed if that is what happens this offseason.

Jared Allen, Clay Matthews, Aldon Smith,Tamba Hali, the cartel from Seattle....its a regular NFL schedule.
I'll stick with Aldon Smith since he's the superior pass rusher of the bunch and one that Costanzo actually lined up against (Clay Matthews & Tamba Hali -linebackers- didn't and Red Bryant isn't elite)...6 tackles and 1 sack.
So like I was writing before, can Castanzo handle Clowney?
-
Castonzo has handled some of the elite rushers just fine....let's see if Clowney becomes that before we worry about it.
Which "elite" pass rushers?
-
We don't need to make a signing because they draft a rookie pass rusher
Said everyone in the AFC South when we drafted Dwight Freeney? ;)
-
If the Texans go with Clowney, are we making a move at LT? Either in the draft or via Free Agency.
Can Castanzo handle Clowney? I'm not so sure.
Can Eugene Monroe, Jordan Gross, Anthony Collins or Zach Streif?
-
This crop of DBs is deep. We can get quality guys late.
-
I watched him earlier at the Combine and uh yeah, this dude would be a nice addition. With that said, we have bigger needs and I am not sure how long he would last.
-
I think it's the second hardest transition to make, behind QB. Grigson intimated the same last year when he was asked a question about a rookie lineman vs. a rookie CB.
I have always been told from the people in the know that o-line is one of the most difficult positions to transition to the pro's.
Yep & Yep
-
Any other late round mediocre players you want to make wild, unfounded predictions about?
LOLOL
-
We have to get a DE/OLB who has the hip flexability to drop back in coverage and has and explosive quick step to pass rush, There is really only 2-3 O Linemen I'd consider in this draft, The O Line is just very average at best. There is no Jonathan Coopers, Chance Warmacks or David Decastros in this draft
I have been watching it every day and Mayock says the same thing at some point every year "This is the deepest draft class in X number of years, When an analyst says that its sometimes a sign that there is no truely elite players at that position
:funny:
:funny:
Hmmmmm....
Mayock & Kiper...
...or...
....this dude.
Yeah.

Luck favors bringing Jonathan Martin to Indy
in Colts Football
Posted
As a former Marine who no doubt endured more (constructive) psychological trauma in 1 day at Parris Island than Martin did while with the Dolphins organization, I'm stunned by your comment.
Have you read the Wells report? There is no place in Football or any other sport for what he endured. That wasn't hazing. It wasn't forcing humility on him in order for him to learn respect and his place in the big picture of team sports. It wasn't a constructive process of breaking him down in order to build him back up in a particular mode. That was physical assault and repeated intimidation. Not only by the P.O.S. Incognito (who NEVER should've been allowed to assume a Captain's role by the hapless coaching staff and organization) but several other players as well who were infected by said P.O.S. The franchise had a systemic problem from the GM on down that removed all safe-guards.
And Martin choosing to walk away from that unacceptable situation is the issue? Wow, perhaps he'd be seen in a more favorable light if he was being a racist, sexually harassing innocent women and physically assaulting others.
