Maybe like 10 times all season.
I thought I had read that some GM had said that (Bucs I think?) but I just checked the quote and I was mistaken. It was saying he was a tweener who didn't really have a position. Doesn't have the body type for DE and not fluid enough for OLB. My bad on that.
So you agree that Mathis does indeed drop into coverage.
I honestly can't see anyone sane projecting him as a tweener. He cannot drop into coverage. I watched Mayock break down a video of him trying to drop into coverage and he really is a poor Man's version of Jerry Hughes.

Lawrence Sidbury was signed to play as a situational pass rusher and was injured in the pre-season.
He was not brought in as a pass rushing specialist. Especially after racking up a whopping 5 sacks in 4 years in Atlanta. Nice try. Nevertheless, we dumped Freeney and Hughes. All you need to know about our desire for purely pass rushing specialists.
-
Well, he's being projected as an OLB in a 34
By who?
-
Mathis doesn't drop in coverage.
Yes, he does.

It's comically stupid that this guys name keeps appearing on this forum. The guy is slow and isn't very good. It's almost as if some fans want him just so they can brag about the Colts picking the 1st openly gay NFL player and if thats the case, some fans really need to re-evaluate why they are fans to begin with. If this guy would have never opened his mouth about being gay, their isn't a single fan or media person that would be talking about him. Enough with this guy already...he's not any good.
Spot on!!!!!
-
I don't see him being like Mathis except for size. Mathis is way more athletic.
Yep, there are a thousand LBs in the country that are Mathis' size. Means nothing. In terms of skill set, there's no comparison between Mathis and this guy.
-
Why?
Because as Mike Mayock said he cannot drop into coverage.
-
3rd and long?
The same argument that was made for keeping Jerry Hughes.....but what happened? The leaders of this franchise do not covet pass rushing specialists because the system they've employed here does not need them.
-
Why don't we need another pass rushing specialist?
Honestly, we shipped the best Pass Rushing Specialist in the history of the franchise off because he could not drop into coverage. Mike Samm does not fit our system.

Good. Buffalo franchising him will keep the Colts from overpaying for him.
I honestly don't think we're paying a lick of attention to him. This is more of an internet driven fantasy than anything else. Along with the notions of Toler and RJF being cut.
-
As it stands, that might set Irsay back all of about 10 bucks.
I think how it affects our future cap is probably the only thing Grigson is concerning himself with.
-
He was going to cost way more than I would be willing to give up anyway.
-
I think it's a fair question. I think this is a big year for him. He's solid but he's not great. It'll probably come down to what kind of money he thinks he's worth. If it's reasonable the Colts could do far worse at left tackle if it's not reasonable well I wouldn't over pay for him. It will also probably depend on what the Colts do/can do in the draft as well at the tackle position.
With Alabama's Kouandjio beginning to slide...and depending on how far that slide ends up being, maybe there will be an opportunity to draft "Can'tStandYa's" replacement.

Many of the posts note that Luck and others have only two years left on their rookie contracts. However, if you believe that the Colts can get to the Super Bowl this year, or next, we may be able to "rent" some good players for their immediate impact and limit the cap hit in 2016. Karlos Dansby? Anquan Boldin?
Apparently the 49ers have made Boldin a priority and I would not be surprised if Dansby hooked up with his old DC in Tennessee. We'll see.
-
Not to mention Ty Hilton, Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen, and Vick Ballard, all players out of last year's draft class we liked that are going to need new contracts sooner or later plus at some point they are going to have to make a long term decision on Castonzo.
I'm wondering if Costanzo is a part of the future long-term.

Reading between the lines here, the colts have said several different ways that they want to resign Davis and Bethea. When the subject of Satele comes up, Grigson's statements tend to be noncommittal.
I think its a greater than 50% chance the Davis and Bethea will be colts next year and that Satele and McGlynn will not.
Very good post.

Cut Toler, Satele, RJF
Toler is not getting cut. And neither is RJF.
-
It sounded to me like Grigson is starting to seriously factor in the future need to resign Andrew Luck and possibly Trent Richardson into how he is approaching Free Agency and available cash from here on out.

Hmm...Does anyone actually care that the Combine started today
Today is TE and O-line, so I don't think anyone cares about today.
Yeah all of the Cornerbackites are still in bed but I am excited to see these Olinemen. A lot of quality guys are going to be available for us as we address are biggest off-season need.
-
If we end up getting carlos dansby...
Considering his old D coordinator is now in Tennessee, I'd see that being a likely landing spot for him.
-
And people....let go of this nonsensical fantasy that Greg Toler could possibly get cut.
THAT is NOT going to happen.

I don't doubt Polian would've drafted him and pretended he was going to be an all-world "joker". But unless we're trying to add special team's depth with a 3rd round selection, I don't see him even being on our board.
