  1. I mentioned in a post the week before the game that San Francisco is actually pretty used to cold, miserable, adverse conditions.  Granted, it's a different cold there in Candlestick, but being right on the bay it's extremely damp, crazy winds windy and cold.  The colder the air temp the lower the humidity.  I've been out in a tee shirt at 8 degrees and been chattering teeth shivering at 36 and 100% humidity.

I expected them to play tough in that game and thought they had a good chance of winning.  Rodgers was back but their game was off a lot - Not playing or practicing for so long gave them trouble.

  2. Your post sounds more like hopeful/wishful thinking.

Where?  Who?  We are as close to healthy at the end of a season than any team we've ever had before.  Other than players we lost a long time ago for the season, the current roster has been solid.

    1.  Center, Hardwick - if it was a concussion Sunday could be out.  He is a key piece and there is no overestimating his value, but Ohrnberger surprised everyone at how well and seamlessly he stepped in for basically almost the entire game.  Our OL has played 17 different combinations in the past couple of months.

    2.  Ryan's ankle - we will have no word on this until Wed.  He says his mindset is he's playing.

    3.  Eddie Royal - has not practiced much of the later part of this year and had been excellent in the games.

    4.  DJ Fluker, RT - had his ankle taped in the second half and played the rest of the game.  If he isn't dead he'll play.

We've had bye weeks where we were one and done because we were slow to get going in the game.

We've had wildcard slot teams that have done well.

Rest is better IF you don't come out flat.

We don't have a choice - we are in our sixth week of playoff football and it will take 8 straight wins to win the Super Bowl.

  3. as far aas I know only wolfe & Moore didnt practice due to injury & phillips DNP due to the ilnnes which has apparently gone around the broncos clubhouse after fox came to practice with the flu if I remember right and then later the same day had to go home to rest early

Shaun Phillips was also missing from the practice. He was ill, had a fever and was sent home.

Denver will at lleast be focused knowing they lost at home to them and due to last years playoff

Chargers D , Denver Website points out is now much stronger than when beat Broncos

Up front, the Chargers have mustered plenty of pressure with their front three in recent weeks. Much of the credit goes to the blossoming Corey Liuget and Kendall Reyes, who in recent weeks have shown why they were first- and second-round picks in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

Liuget showed flashes of brilliance in 2012; he broke up nine passes, had 15 tackles for losses and notched seven sacks. His sack total declined in 2013, but his sack of Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton on Sunday gave him 3.5 since Nov. 24, when the Chargers began their current 6-1 run. (Liuget had three sacks in the season's first 10 games.)

Reyes was credited by ProFootballFocus.com with five quarterback hurries Sunday, giving him 13 in the last five games -- three more than he had in the Chargers' first 12 games combined.

San Diego's investment is paying off. Their ability to get pressure from inside enhances the opportunities available for outside linebackers Jarret Johnson and Melvin Ingram, each of whom delivered explosive plays Sunday. (Johnson had a sack; Ingram hit Dalton once and later intercepted a pass after he dropped into coverage and easily read Dalton's intentions.)

Ingram, a first-round pick in 2012, represents the main difference in the Chargers defense from Week 15 to today. He returned to the field in December after suffering a torn ACL during OTAs and has seen his playing time increase every week since he returned against the Giants on Dec. 8.

\Since being shut out in the pass rush against the Broncos on Dec. 12, he has hit the opposing quarterback at least once each game.

San Diego is a slightly different team from the one the Broncos saw on Dec. 12, but those tweaks

will give the Broncos plenty to ponder as they prepare to break the deadlock in the season series.

Shhhhhhh!!!!!   We're the same old, same old Chargers...  Mike McCoy is just the same as Norv Turner.  They're soft, they'll give up and walk off the field at the first sign of adversity.  Every one is better than we are.

"These are not the Chargers you are looking for..."

  4. Yes, it is a disadvantage to West Coast teams, but it is a known disadvantage.  You play WC you have to learn to deal with that issue... period.

Our team practices at 7 AM for a reason.  I don't know our early east coast game record this year but I'm fairly certain it was really good.  The worst game we had was the crazy 8:30 PM (Pacific time) start at the Raiders.  We were totally thrown off by it, while they weren't.

I had to laugh at the comments about how Peyton Manning had a short week last time he played the Chargers and they lost - at home.  We had a short week too AND we traveled to Denver on top of a short week.

    No excuses.

  5. As nervous as I was all week, I slept like a baby and was really peaceful this morning.  I just knew we'd be ready and our guys wouldn't care that no one was picking them to win.  They like being underestimated.

Wow!  Quite a game.  Love that our coaches game plan the opponent really effectively - we don't play the same game every week and hope we can just plain outplay everyone when they know exactly what we're going to do.

Losing Hardwick was big - I hope he's back next week.  Not having Ryan Mathews in the secon half troubles me with his ankle injury.  He's been a stud running back and come through in the clutch over and over again.  That game wouldn't have been as close if he were back in running in the 4th qtr.  We'd have picked up more 1st downs on run only offense.

Happy household here in California!  Now ready to watch another great game.  What an awesome weekend of football.

We're neither afraid of going to Denver, nor cocky about it.  It's just the next stop in our now 5 game playoff run since Dec. 1

  6. LOL I don't care. Bring anyone on. At this point it's house money again and we can be fearless underdogs and go against the aging HOFs and their crud defenses.

    We have momentum......

Thought about you being nervous today all during the first half - glad it turned out well.  Now I'm starting to get nervous :-)

  7. I fell asleep on the couch this morning, but my hubby saw an interview with Dan Fouts.  He said that he still has no feeling in the tips of his fingers and his toes as a consequence of "The Freezer Bowl" game.  Imagine the impact that had on the rest of his career.  I've never heard him talk about it publicly before.

I don't want to see anyone injured especially permanently like that...

  8. I would like to see a rule of some sort instituted whereby if a game were going to fall below the weather threshold it is delayed a few days and moved to a neutral, domed site.

Yeah, it would screw up the tickets and the fans getting to be at the game but in the end, it would also encourage these brutal cold weather teams to put up domes so they aren't gaining an undue advantage with the cold.

  9. JULES, performance is art :-)  I couldn't do the pressure of performing live.  I just paint, design, create, rework, scan, put into Photoshop and work it until I like it (not much pressure in that!) If you're curious you can see a tiny bit at my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/audrey.jeannes.expressions

I am with you JJ on watching the other teams more easily than my own.  I was a WRECK on Sunday.  The worst is when your team is playing so much worse than you know they are capable and is normal.  The KC game was a total dud until the end.  Everything handed to us and then it was going to be whiffed away...

I watch the draft but don't pay a lot of attention prior to it because I know so few college players.  We're Fresno State Bulldog fans so we'll be watching a couple of our really good guys go out this year.  And Tom Telesco did such an amazing job with our draft this year I sure hope he can even come close once again.  The equivalant of 3 first round picks in 4 rounds (we traded a 4th to move up) and all three started and greatly contributed is not easy to duplicate.

    Is it Sunday yet?

  10. I've known you were a SD fan since I joined the forum haha (Was thinking about older posters that disappeared yesterday n ya popped in my head then haha coincidence ya reappear now). I'm sure if the tables were turned SF fans would be saying "Win your division n ya won't have to worry bout it". Imo it's just an owner with a gripe who feels he deserves to get more money in his pocket.

I just wondered as the Rivers' picture IS probably a DEAD GIVEAWAY

  11. The current format is perfect. Should be happy there is a WC so you're not watching the post season from your couch. Just gotta roll with the punches n accept that you have to go onto the road. It's not GBs fault that SF is in a tough division n they shouldn't loose out on a home game because of it.

Just curious, did you think I was a SF fan, or were you speaking global "you"?

I'm trying to approach the idea without a specific event/team/division in mind, since any rule change would apply to an entirely different situation.  I do remember how upset Colt's fans were in 2008 when the Chargers won the division at 8-8 on the last day and they had to come to San Diego.  I didn't blame them and wasn't sure that's how it should have worked out then even when it benefited our team.

  12. I wish all I was missing was some reading, LOL!  As a professional artist, the "show" season begins this weekend at the Atlanta Gift Show and my agents and manufacturers are screaming for new art (fortunately one of them is a football fan, so he is somewhat understanding!)

I'm not thinking I could paint lightning bolts and get away with licensing it....

    ;-)

  13. I like the division set up as it aids in creating rivalries etc. and adds a degree of variance in those halcyon days of league parity. What I would like to see is the wildcards not being conference dependent. So if the 4 best teams who HAVEN'T won their division happen to be in the NFC so be it. However I can see why it is the way it is so teams such as MIA/BAL/PITT this year still had something to play for despite being mediocre teams at best this season.

That doesn't work as there are two different "playoffs" that end up in the best team from each Conference representing in the Super Bowl.

After reading everyone's posts I guess, I'm moving back to the "don't fix what ain't broke" camp.  I can see that any "fix" would just create another inequity.  As long a humans are involved it will never be "perfect!"

  14. If they reseed based on records, there is no point in having divisions. They should leave it the way it is or just expand it.

But if you're guaranteed in when you win your division - that keeps them still important.  Just seed according to record.

Green Bay won their division at 8-7-1 and San Francisco was 2nd at 12-4.  If this change was implemented, Green Bay would be headed to SF.  Do they deserve that much of an advantage?

Just thinking out loud here, I can be convinced ;)

  15. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000308443/article/nfl-to-consider-reseeding-playoffs-purely-by-record

I am one that thinks it isn't fair for a team to have a significantly better record but if in 2nd place in their division they are a Wildcard behind a team from a lesser division.

I said that in 2008 when we (San Diego) won our division at 8-8 and the Colts that were I think 11-5 that year had to come to our house.  Even when we benefited from the rule I didn't think it right and still don't.

    What are your thoughts?

I think that win your division and you're in, no matter how bad your record is fair enough.  Placement from there by record and league tiebreakers.

  16. We watched part one and the after show, haven't seen the second one yet.  We tivo'd it.  He was ahead of my time so I didn't really know anything about him except his name and his legendary status as a coach.

I personally know a few people who had famous parents that weren't quite the same at home.  Kind of sad seeing his son and while he honors his father it's obvious he didn't get from him what many others did.
