  1. The kid is young.  I hope he's able to mature and become the leader he needs to be.  He'll need a strong coach and a better organization - I'm not at all sure he's going to get that.

Character is built over a lifetime - I don't know what his childhood and the influential people were in his life, but I hope he has some strong people that can yank his chain when needed (including his wife).  He'll be the better man for it if he does.

  2. all 4 did not practice Wednesday

Why are you obsessing on this?  You sound like you're wringing your hands with glee and anticipation... and like you're reassuring yourself by repeating your point over and over and over.  We get it, you like bye weeks.

Ryan Mathews and Eddie Royal have not practiced in previous weeks off and on all season.  DJ Fluker is my biggest concern, but if he's capable of playing he will and if not, Coach D will have a solution ready.  He's done an amazing job with an O Line that has now seen 17 different configurations (the next closest in the NFL was 6 or 8 variations).

Hardwick I'm guessing may be out, as he was the entire game in Cincy.  He has a concussion and a stinger (kind of obvious when you watched him staggering around on the replays).  I prefer Hardwick, but Orhnberger did a great job in his place.

  3. appreciate  that Audrey,

Thing is, and going to her assisted living now, I am only one who can get her to eat some more

she is tiny and has gone from 97 to 77 pounds fast, besides tumors , copd, many issues ,  etc and age 95

some new measures were ordered after Discussion and blood test review with her Dr Dec 31

at least weight has stabilized so far this week , though once regained 5 pounds only to lose 10 shortly thereafter, she needs to gain and get some energy back

, i could  go on but u get the message, Obviously one's mom takes priority over all else

also this really isnt the place to discuss such things

Best of Luck to your Chargers

, I had this page open on computer refreshed it so saw your remark , next time quote me, so i get e-mail notice, maybe i will have time to respond

    Barry

You're doing the right thing - it's great to see.  The playoffs will be here next year and the year after, take care and enjoy every moment you have with your Mom.

    Audrey

  4. on any given Sunday... that's why we PLAY the playoffs.

Peyton will be ready, but we all know it will be about more than Peyton.  Your weakest team mate can lose the game for you.  One play.  One series.  One stupid mistake is all it takes to be out on your rear until next year.

Which TEAM will be more solid?  Which TEAM will rise to the occasion?  Which rookie will surprise everyone and do the seemingly impossible?  We won't know until the score is final...

That's why we all love it so much!

  5. Bayone posted this article in another thread that addresses the stats behind this first seed's bye week:

    http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2014-01-06/nfl-playoffs-divisional-games-upsets-seeds-broncos-chargers-seahawks-saints-colts-patriots-super-bowl-run

Since the league went to an eight-division format in 2002, only once has it been No. 1 vs. No. 1 in the Super Bowl. That was four years ago, when Peyton Manning’s Colts lost to Drew Brees’ Saints. Only nine No. 1 seeds of 22 in those 11 years have made it to the Super Bowl.

You might think, however, that Manning’s Broncos and Russell Wilson’s Seahawks got a break with the No. 6 seeds advancing to face them this weekend. You would be wrong.

Since 2005, No. 1 seeds have a 7-9 record in the divisional playoffs. There’s more reason for the big underdog Chargers and Saints to be more confident this week. Since ’05, No. 6 seeds have gone 5-2 in this round following a wild-card upset.

The Chargers have not done well off of the bye week.  We've also been beaten up in the Wildcard week in the past and been weakened.  Basically there is no easy way to the Super Bowl.

  6. please do not link to content that we would not allow here (racism.......profanity etc) also please do not copy and past posts from other forums, there has been far too much of that lately

We do not allow links to other forums because we do not want to get something started with another board. Copying and pasting is the same thing

    please don't do it

My apologies on copying and pasting a post, won't happen again

  7. You have a whole team built like the Colts of the last decade.....you're welcome. Don't know if you knew it.

Yeah, but the team has been headed this way since at least 2008.  We started cleaning house of bad character guys then.  At the time Antonio Cromartie was an example - a lot of talent but poor character.  We traded him to the Jets.

It is the Spanos family's values as well and that is why they selected Tom Telesco and Mike McCoy.  To continue developing the team they wanted to build.

  9. This is quite poetic, do you take ownership of this or are they someone else's words? Nice work either way

Thanks, my words.  Just from observing life.

Especially as related to a team sport.  When a locker room is filled with "lesser talents" that work hard, have strong heart and work together that team can and often will go much farther than one with a bunch of self centered star athletes with natural talent, giant egos and no work ethic.

I've played on both kinds of teams and I know which I will always prefer.

  10. I'm sure we have a clue, the DC is a Pagano.  I'm sure the philosopy is they same.  All about family, team guy, unselfish, all the same things that are taught by Chuck here in Indy.

I didn't say you didn't have a clue - the reason I said you might not want to know is that there are people that hate the Chargers so much they don't want to hear that we don't have pitchforks and tails ;-)

  11. I actually hope the chargers win. Just so I can lmbo at everyone and their comments about being a fool, dumb, etc. for thinking this is true. Last years playoffs had me scratching my head. This will just be sweet.

If the Chargers win the Super Bowl does not equal the NFL is fixed.  It means that if you can get into the dance anything can happen.

    1.  Refs alone can't "fix" a season.  A ref could fix a game.  Things of that nature  have happened before, but not a conspiracy as huge as would be necessary for the NFL.

    2.  If you had more than 2 or 3 people involved it would NEVER stay quiet.  This is where all conspiracy theories go wrong.  People talk.  People file lawsuits to make money.

    3.  Players move around.  If a player on team A that "fixes" a game moves to team "B" who's game was fixed he stays quiet?!  Yeah right!

    4.  You would have to have teams willing to lay down and let another team win - that doesn't happen and won't happen.  Again a single player with a gambling debt might be vulnerable but on a 53 man team it just doesn't happen.

    5.  This whole thing is just inane and stupid and I have to say I will make me take the opinions of those espousing it with much less seriousness from this point forward.

  12. LOVE Weddle!  Great guy.  Humble.  Excellent character.  Solid leader.  Family man.  Team guy all the way and a great player.

I know you guys don't want to know it, but we have a whole team of men like this.  It's why this season has turned around instead of crash and burn with a coaching change and front office change.

  13. Honestly, nothing would surprise me. I've said for 15+ yrs. that there is no doubt in my mind that the NBA is rigged and the champions are picked before the season even starts. It's the main reason why I gave up on that league yrs. ago. I would hate to think that the NFL is that way too, but ya just never know. With some of the flat out horrific officiating the last few yrs. and especially this season, something don't quite smell right. Like I said earlier, if the Chargers do indeed win it all this yr., then I'm going to seriously question the validity of the league from then on.

I find this incredibly amusing.... But then I am not a conspiracy theorist about anything.

From what any of us knew about the Chargers at the beginning of the year - what sane person would have even TRIED to rig the results?  We were 5-7 at our lowest point and exactly WHO outside of our locker room had any idea they had it in them to go 5-0 from that point on?  Do you have any idea how really foolish it would have been for the NFL to even try to rig that result?  Especially with a new GM and new Coaches?  Even San Diego's fans for the most part had given up on them.

  14. Say what you want about Rivers and his attitude but that dude is a gamer

    ^^^ THIS ^^^

And has absolutely no ego.  He could give a rip about the stats, the glory or anything that isn't spelled WIN.  He could care less about anything except the team.  There is just no "I" in him.

The "it" factor about the Chargers this year is the TEAM attitude.  And some things that McCoy does in practices that have built an automatic depth that backs up the mental "next man up."   He insures the next man up is ready to play and contribute.  Loving his coaching style.

  15. There have been some very questionable events leading up to super bowl's in the past 15 years or so...completely unbiased (except one ;p), here are a few exampes:

    1. the year after the 9/11 attack, tom brady comes out of no where to lead the "patriots" to a super bowl on a last second field goal against a HEAVILY favored rams team.

    2. "New Orleans" Saints superbowl win the year after Hurrican Katrina on a "calculated risk" onside kick after half time against our beloved undefeated regular season colts (and the awful stare down pick at the end)

    3. They got 2 birds with 1 stone on this one...Ray Lewis, a symbol of passionate football (dirty if you ask me) announces his retirement and all of a sudden the wild card ravens run the table on back to back miraculous comebacks (which flacco didnt do all year) and they got the epic match up of the "Harbough brothers" (i was a year early in predicting that one)

The fact is, America (and Vegas) love under-dogs.  Look it up, something like 5 out of the last 6 super bowl winners have been wild card teams...

There are other obvious clues that either Vegas, or someone very powerful has a hand in these games...thoughts

The "pattern" to each of your points is EMOTION.

Every football fan knows the power of a team that is fueled by belief and emotion.

No outside force can make a team play good enough to guarantee a win nor impact things well enough to guarantee a loss.

  16. Our D has been improving, but our secondary is still suspect.  It's only been doing better because we got Jarret Johnson and Melvin Ingram back and we're getting better pressure from every angle.  With them back, Weddle is now free to be blitzing occasionally.

Also with them back, Pagano has been doing some very creative blitzes.  Peyton can smell even the whiff of a blitz - so our dbs and cbs are going to have to have the best game of their season for us to pull this off over Denver.

I have a gut feeling that we've been holding back some pass plays specifically for Denver against their weak D.

Remember, Mike McCoy was Peyton's OC last year, he knows him really well and their offensive personnel really well.   The SD players who were picked up by Denver (Shawn Philips comes to mind) only know the old and the old personnel  - we only have 7 players left from our playoff team of 2009 still active.

I honestly do not know how this game will turn out.  If we continue the trend of getting better this week than last - we've got an even chance.  I wouldn't be surprised for it to go either way.
