  1. Smashmouth - yes, and before that he tore it up at SDSU where we really got to see him in action.  Fun times!  I don't remember much about him with the St. Louis teams as in those days there weren't tivos, we didn't have NFL ticket and you barely got to follow your own team, let alone any other team in the league.  Sheesh I'm old!

  2. You guys are awesome - there's some great ones in this list.  Thank you so much!

I thought of one - it isn't one word but it is soooooo TRUE

Dying for the season to start

    LOL

  3. As a Chargers fan since 1970 - I got to witness the before and after.  His first day as the Charger head coach was a tragic day in our community when a jetliner crashed in the North Park/Downtown area of SD.  I saw the smoke plume from my home 15 miles north.

He was electrifying to our city, and his offensive mind was electrifying to the NFL.  It is sad that with the Hall of Fame it is often the "only thing that matters" is a Super Bowl ring.  Dan Fouts fought hard for Don in the years before he died, saying, "I wouldn't have been a HOF QB if there wasn't a Don Coryell."

Coryell was a rare breed - if you took out every innovation (big and small) that he brought to the game you wouldn't be watching anything like what the NFL is today.

As a professional artist you learn - vision is everything.  When you can envision something no one else has thought of or do it in a revolutionary way it's an incredible break through.... one that will instantly be copied by lesser artists.  Lots of people can look at something that exists, then figure out how to reproduce it - not many can look at what is and envision what can be.

RIP Coach Coryell you were an amazing coach, mentor, friend and family man.

  4. I'm designing a t-shirt and need words to describe football fans for a word cloud type application.  Here's what I have so far, can you help with thinking of some others?

    Fierce

    Loyal

    Faithful

    Consistent

    Unwavering

    Fanatical

Believe or Believer (which do you prefer?)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

    Audrey

  5. Another thing I like about him is his willingness, even eagerness to mentor the younger players we have just acquired.  Boy - what a difference it makes to see mature players give it their all, when young guys are watching and moldable.  Freeney has been amazing at that even from the sidelines.

  6. The Packers and Rodgers are going to love Davante Adams - I'm so bummed he left Fresno State so early (we're local to FS so we're fans).  He's got great hands, speed and moves.  The major adjustment I see him having is how hard Rodgers throws, that ball is smoking.  Carr could zip it but most were really soft, catchable balls.

  7. We LOVE Telesco - he's proving to be a very sound manager, no drama (thank GOD after AJ Smith).  He quietly gets the job done and almost every move upgrades the position with the noteable exception of Derek Cox last season.  But even there he was quick to realize his mistake and move on.  Cox was just plain lost most of the season.  It's no secret our secondary has been our weakest spot for at least the last 4-5 years.  Not the least of our troubles is sound tackling and he's significantly upgraded us this year in the draft related to that.  Flowers is a very solid tackler.

Flowers has been effective enough against us that we've hated going against him, I would rather have him playing for us :-)  Here's a very thorough article analyzing his play last season: http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2014/6/25/5839582/what-are-the-chargers-getting-in-brandon-flowers

The contract is very sound.  $3 guarantee with $2 to earn based on performance gives him a lot of incentive to work his behind off.

  8. I bet Brees is not any more happy with this move than Rivers was when AJ let him go.  Sproles is the kind of player that contributes more than his stats might lead you to believe.

I'm sorry he didn't get to pick the team he was going to play for, but this could turn out to be a good move for him.

I love the guy.  He has so much heart, he's a total team player and there is NOTHING more fun than watching him upend a 300 lb+ guy in pass coverage, LOL!

  9. Gehlken is beat writer for the Union Tribune covering the Chargers:

    Michael Gehlken @UTgehlken 6m

Former Colts inside linebacker Kavell Conner will visit Chargers tomorrow. Source says "strong possibility" a deal gets done.

What do you guys think of Kavell Conner - I'm not familiar with the name.

  10. We found his tirade - irritating, obnoxious and in very poor taste.

However, he has the right to show how low class and childish he is to the world, the NFL and to his own management.  I don't know what (if any) rules the NFL has about such incidents, but if they do I'd like to see them enforce it.  I just don't want to have to listen to that kind of drivel on a weekly basis.  If it occured weekly it's quite possible I would grow tired of it and watch less football.

I also have the right (and will exercise that right) to turn off any program that features him being interviewed because I simply don't care what he has to say.

When a player mouths off publicly like that he makes it more difficult for his teammates.  I would imagine that his coaches will have something to say to him during these next couple weeks.  Retribution happens and other teams get fired up over much less bulletin board material.  Add to that that the men that make up the league pretty much police themselves, they don't need my help.

  11. Yeah, goofy faces are his specialty.  He isn't remotely whiney though it might look like it.  He's demanding of the players around him in a good way, they love him.  He's never obnoxious or foul-tempered in those situations.  He does fight for calls.  You rarely get anything on that specific call, but it's interesting when he fights about his receivers being held etc., how often the calls come later.  It has its place in the game.

He's taken flak for kicking the ball away (KC game) or throwing the ball down after the whistle - it can look like a temper tantrum but it isn't.  It's completely calculated.  He had a lineman injured a couple years ago because he held onto the ball in that situation and the defensive player kept coming.  Ever since, the second the whistle blows, he gets rid of the ball to a neutral area.

He received "Come Back Player of the Year" this week.  I'm glad he got recognized but it's really his OL that deserved the honor.  Frankly - his skills have never varied, he just was getting no protection from them.  He was constantly being hammered.  He was sacked 49 times in 2012 and hurried more frequently than ever.  His line was porous so he started hearing footsteps even if they weren't there.  He has never said a single word about that and deflects those questions every time. This year it was 30 sacks (40% less) and I can't find the hurry numbers, but much MUCH less frequent.

  12. Just hope that you get all the good ones in December, which is when you guys play your best ball :). Maybe you can take down the Ravens, Patriots and one of the Seahawks/49ers in December??? At least you get the Patriots and Seahawks at home while the Broncos get them on the road, BIG DIFFERENCE.

    ^^^Agreed^^^

  13.

Chargers never knocked the Patriots out of the playoffs so that's another reason why there isn't much animosity between the two teams.

Here's hoping we can change that dynamic, LOL  ;)

  14. Too simplistic to vote.  It all depends on the expectations going in.

    1.  Team is stacked and performing well - decent injury amounts, so expected to win and chokes.  Major bummer way to end a season but the season is NOT a waste.  I hate when fans put that kind of mentality on guys that give their blood, sweat & tears.

    2.  Team is in rebuilding mode and over performs - Great season whether they just get into the playoffs and lose or go a ways in.

    3.  Team is stacked and stacked with egos, dysfunction and has a good record in the regular season but fails in the playoffs - bad season.

My goal for our team is a long term franchise health that produces:

    1.  Consistent regular season winners that get into the playoffs.

    2.  Successful reaching the Conference Round most years

    3.  Getting to and winning the Super Bowl (every few years)

    Basically built like the Patriots.

  15.

Rivers reminds me of Brett Farve a lot ..execpt that he doenst take the gunslinger chances anymore.

I cant tell you how unlikely I thought that he would ever lead the league in completion percentage..

Denver's problems are that they are going to have to re-sign Von Miller,  Decker and both Thomas brothers, I believe,  in the next 2 years.

..one may have to go....unless Von can get some endorsement money off legal weed.. (that was uncalled for)

the Broncos have longterm money committed to OG Vasquez, OT Clady and Manning obviously......it has to be Champ Bailey's last year..he's big bucks

    They are all-in for now.

When our downfield threats are back, I expect his percentage to fall a bit.  Malcolm Floyd and Danarius Alexander can fly and it's worth the higher risk for the consistent big plays they present.  (Man do I miss Vincent Jackson and I bet VJ misses Rivers too!)

I remember reading a bit about what Denver has coming up and their window could be closing.  No matter what, without Peyton they're in trouble long range.  I haven't heard anything about Osweiller's development.
