I saw Queensryche back in the day....the bass on Jet City Woman about made me $hit my pants lol.

Guess who opened for them.....who I really went to see.......?

Suicidal Tendencies!!!! (who's bass player at the time Robert Trujillo joined a little band named Metallica)

Good background tour stuff on Queensryche & Robert T. there Lolly. Still got those pants? Just messing with ya. haha 1 of the best names for a band ever. Queensryche just sounds cool as s***. I had an opportunity to see them in high school, but something came up. Darn it.

Robert can play bass with the best of em.

      They were amazing in concert!

I agree, they have one of the coolest names ever

Love Jimmy Page brother. :hat: He is so gifted strumming on guitar. That man can play anything. Plus, Jimmy has aged quite gracefully. He looks so darn cool with a ponytail too. Robert Plant can still carry a nice tune as well.

Silent Lucidity is such a beautiful song. One of the greatest power ballads ever written RR7. I always think of high school proms, weddings, & evaporating virginity every single time I hear that epic number.

Excuse me, while I sway with my bic lighter & I don't even light up bro. haha

  4. RIP Chris Cornell...one of the most iconic voices of the last 30 years.  This comes from "Temple of The Dog", the next one will as well.  This was a collaboration of Soundgarten and Green River (Early Pearl Jam) as a tribute to "Mother Love Bones" prodigy Andrew Wood...who overdosed.  Quite the irony.  Say hello to heaven Chris and for all those that think people have it made because they are famous...the psyche tells a different tale...

You know you have made it by the quality of covers amateur performers do in your honor...

Other then getting sued, this is the benchmark of becoming a household name.

I keep thinking of Chris's lyrics from his song "Shadow Of The Sun" in light of how he passed away.

Once upon a time I was of the mind
      To lay your burden down

And leave you where you stood
      And you believed I could
      You'd seen It done before
      I could read your thoughts
      Tell you what you saw
      And never say a word
      Now all that is gone
Over with and done - never to return

      [Chorus 1:]
And I can tell you why
      People die alone
      I can tell you I'm
      A shadow on the sun

      Staring at the loss
      Looking for a cause

      And never really sure
      Nothing but a hole
      To live without a soul
      And nothing to be learned

      [Chorus 2:]
And I can tell you why
      People go insane
      I can show you how
      You could do the same
      I can tell you why
      The end will never come
      I can tell you I'm
      A shadow on the sun

      Shapes of every size
      Move behind my eyes
      Doors inside my head
      Bolted from within
      Every drop of flame
      Lights a candle in

      Memory of the one
      Who lives inside my skin

      [Chorus 2:]
And I can tell you why
      People go insane
      I can show you how
      You could do the same
      I can tell you why
      The end will never come
      I can tell you I'm
      A shadow on the sun"

Chris was an exceptional writer, artist, & composer that's for sure. I just wish we would stop losing musicians of high caliber & sophistication though. Can't we lose some cookie cutter boy bands instead? I mean does anybody miss manufactured corporate; no name talent? Hades no.

Checkout Nora Jones paying tribute to Chris. Very well done. I'd expect nothing less from her.

I am a UCONN and CUSE fan as I had/have family at both universities. RIP to a great player.

  7. RIP Tom Petty.....one of my all time faves.  I had seen him play a few times but none was as good as at The Jones Beach Amphitheater in 1985...thunder and lightning coming off the angry Atlantic ocean in his background and after two delays........he just played his heart out in the rain!  He began it with this song...

I prefer musicians who can put me in a trace & take me to another world for awhile. I love the slow & subdued drumming on this track. I always play "Hard On Me" when I'm in a reflective mood reminiscing about the past & what lead me here. Not just this thread, but what it all means man. Deep, I know.

What's with all these musicians dying in their 60's? That is way too soon; at least the music will live on.

All I can say is when your number is drawn your time is up. Age don't matter, sex don't matter and religion don't matter. Just make the best of life and keep your loved one close.

Rod's Blonds Have More Fun and Foolish Behavior was my favorite stuff by him since his Faces days.

"I can't work & I can't sleep...Infatuation" I like the synthesizers in this song. Cheesy & yet effective. This number was HUGE in the mid 80's when I was growing up.

Along with this companion single as well.

I still have this compilation album in my music collection even today.

Nice selections as always RR7. Appreciate the Blackie Lawless stuff as well as Rainbow, Whitesnake, Autograph, & several other bands you posted brother. :scoregood:

People unfamiliar with WASP always get the wrong impression. You know that Blackie had an addiction problem when it came to the opposite sex. That Apache frontman is very sharp. Part of it, was just designed to tick off the PMRC [Parents Music Resource Center]; Part of it was just to go against the grain to manufacture controversy to sell millions of records; & part of it was just the rock n roll lifestyle back in the day. Blackie is a very deep thinker who articulates his point of view exceptually well in 1 on 1 interviews overall.

Kudos on your Peter Gabriel choices too. Gotta add 1 more from his catalog though.

A very unrated song of the highest caliber. Enough said.

Regarding my cover of "I Don't Care Anymore" by HY I posted yesterday, I forgot to mention this: My condolences to the family of Vinnie Paul, former drummer of Pantera, who passed away on June 22nd.

I always get depressed when musicians die because they represent the closest thing to pure creativity we have left in this world. Some comedians like George Carlin & Robin Williams float among this unique realm too.

When you see quality musicians bond with a crowd & occupy a brief live space where nothing else matters for a 2 hour set, it's pretty amazing.

  10. Some duets that I have always liked...

Ha! I just realized RR7's status updates was about duets & I totally diss-ed Tom Petty. Oops! That wasn't by design. I just love Stevie probably on a weird, subconscious level I have never gotten a handle on yet....as a singer & musician...Not what you're thinking. I know; I know. Shut up while you're ahead or at least not that far behind right? haha

Well, I think Sigmund Freud did say there are no accidents & probably playwright William Shakespeare will co-sign that theory as well.

      southwest1

Okay, to make up for my lack of duet awareness snafu, I will leave you with this Gwyneth Paltrow & Huey Lewis song "Cruising Together" from the move 'Duets.' The video quality is poor, but the tune is catchy...

Plus, I like that Huey Lewis said once that having a top 10 or top 20 hit & being popular at the time doesn't mean you're a good band just that you happen to catch lightning in a bottle that resonated with fans on a large scale.

Speaking of the late George Michaels of Wham fame in the late 80's, Newsweek just did a commemorative issue on his life in pictures & text on his entire life. I saw this at Walgreens today in their periodical or magazine section. No, I didn't buy it. Just thumbed through it briefly.

  15. There are two teams that I have followed and been a fan of since my diaper days....one the Colts the other the Yankees.  I know many hate the Yankees but I am proud of them going in to game 7 of the ALCS.  They weren't evern supposed to make the playoffs and the future is bright!  So for all those that hate them....some Damn Yankees!

Since going to concerts since mid 60.'s at 12 years old or so traveling around the country with friends & still going, just not traveling  , i have just so many favorite songs and so many various live versions of same heard , many times an unexpected top one from the past popped up & I'd cry & still have vivid memories of those times
