That and just throwing away Keenum.  Who did they get?  Cousins?  (Bridgewater please)

Thank you.  I don't know if I am in the new baseball thread. I love that it is getting going.  Radiogirl got promoted in her job and barely has time to change clothes.

She is well.  I have gone through the mill for just over a year.  Long story.  Bad year and a half.  Thanks again.  :)

Vikings signed Cousins :(. Bridgewater signed a one-year deal with the Jets.  I am happy that he did get signed by a team. Many were worried about his gruesome knee injury.

Congratulate Radiogirl on her promotion. You take care of yourself.

Purdue and Butler.  I have not looked when it is.  I believe IUPUI won a game when George Hill played for them.

Big trade with Colts.  I am dreading some of the reactions on that one if I am on here.  Vikings sure were fun :)

I am not too happy about losing Bridgewater. But it is time to move on.

Nice to see you posting again. We miss you and RadioGirl.  I would appreciate another woman on the Baseball thread. :cheer2:

Hope both of you are well.

Those two buzzer-beaters are reminiscent of Bryce Drew, whose highlight I put up yesterday. I love when it comes down to the end.

My two favorite active coaches in college BB are facing each other. I was all for Syracuse until I saw that they are playing Mich St. I respect both coaches who are committed to their teams. My brother is a Syracuse alum. Whoever wins I will be pleased. Too bad one of them had to lose.

This is one of the most crazy offseasons I can remember throughout the entire league.

I agree. I can't keep up. This one is mind-boggling, given that the Colts are not looking for extra cap space. There has to be some other reason.

Yeah IUPUI has actually become pretty big. We are Division 1 in Basketball. I grew up a Hoosier fan and really don't dislike Purdue now days. I am rooting for Purdue this year actually but without their big man I think they are in trouble.

Didn't IUPUI win a tourney game? I seem to remember that.

I'll root for Purdue too. Who are they playing?

Hey, they just announced on the radio that the Jets moves up to #3

@NFLfan where did you go to school? I graduated from IUPUI. Our only claim to fame is making the Tournament once lmao. We did have George Hill though who has been a Good Pro. Hill has made us proud.

I graduated from Binghamton, Tony Kornheiser's alma mater. It is not a big sports school. It is part of the State University of NY, which Buffalo is part of. Binghamton is often called "The Ivy of the SUNYs". haha Our school color is green... We were in the tourney only once and we lost, as expected.

Are you familiar with the show King of Queens? There is an actor called Victor Williams. We were not friends but I knew him. We went to school there the same 4 years.

Didn't your alma mater win a game in the tourney once? I seem to vaguely remember that.

That's why I love college basketball. The best team doesn't normally win the championship because anything can happen in a one game scenario.

Me too. I love it. One of my favorites was the Valparaiso upset years ago when Bryce Drew made that last minute shot to beat Ole Miss.

My alma mater is a member of the America East, the conference that UMBC is from. I will be rooting for them and for Buffalo. This is exciting. :)

Virginia is tied with a 16 seed at halftime.

Wow. Tied at halftime and they end up losing by 20! That's terrible.

I used to love March Madness. I stopped following college basketball after the conferences, especially the Big East, started changing (conference realignment). But I love upsets. I hope they continue.

Sounds just like another certain team is trying to follow the Vikings past pattern. I'm curious what your thoughts are regarding Cousins.

I like the past pattern haha. It seems that teams that win free agency usually don't fare too well in the following season.

As for Cousins, I don't believe he is that much better than the three quarterbacks that we had. He is a mid-tier QB. If Bradford or Teddy did not have their knee problems, I believe the Vikings would have re-signed one of them. They seemed to like Bradford the most of the three but his degenerative knee problem was too much of a risk. Losing Teddy to the Jets is difficult for Coach Zimmer -- he loved Teddy and said a few weeks ago that he wished Teddy continues his career with him. But Teddy wants to start.

I believe the decision to sign Cousins was the owners' decision. They see an opportunity to win the Super Bowl (or Superb Owl as Vikes fans call it) and want to take advantage of that now. They hired John Defilippo to be the OC. He was the QB coach for the Eagles last year. All those moves show that they are pulling out all the stops to win a SB next year. I hope it happens.

I never wanted him. He's a good player, but he's not worth the off field headache.

Yeah, I am not a fan of Richardson. Hopefully he will stay out of trouble.

One year deal. Don't know the details.

It is a one-year deal worth $11 million.

The Vikings are deviating from what made them a talented team which was drafting, developing, and retaining good players. They had mostly stayed away from signing high-priced free agents like Cousins and Richardson. I hope we don't sign any more unless it is to improve the OL.

Siemian is a good guy and he is never going to have big voice or a large ego.

I think that suits him well to be a backup which coincides with where he was drafted (7th)

Denver had 11 picks this year and 3 draft choices from last year who never played due to injury.

They're tight on money and as little as Trevor makes ($2 mil cap hit) they needed to get rid out if because he's never going to start for them again with Case there..

The Vikings don't need him to start and they get a low-cost backup with something like 20 games of starting experience.   If Kirk Cousins gets knocked out of a game, Siemian could go in and do a capable job. Despite his interception issue, he does have a winning record as a starting QB for what that's worth.

    Seems like a win-win.

    I agree.

Doesn't all the money given to Cousins kind of undo all that though?

Apparently not. Over the Cap is projecting that Keenum will bring a 3rd, McKinnon a 5th, and Teddy a 6th. Teddy's projection is based on $5 million deal for 2018, but it has been reported he can earn up to $15 million. If that is so, the Vikes may receive a higher comp pick for Teddy. Bradford's projection is not up yet but his salary is rumored to be more than Keenum's; so I guess he would bring back a 3rd as well.

So, Cousins and Bradford cancel each other. So, as of now, we are projected to get 3 comp picks.

Quote from Over the Cap (written before free agency but describes what would happen):

    Vikings

    Pending UFAs: 13
OTC Top 100 Free Agents: 5

Has there ever been a team that has three (albeit debated) starting caliber QBs hitting the market at once? That’s what the Vikings have on hand with Case Keenum, Sam Bradford, and Teddy Bridgewater. Even if the Vikings retain one of them or sign another veteran QB that would cancel out the loss of one of them, the other two could yield high compensatory picks for 2019 even if they’re on backup deals. Jerick McKinnon is also another CFA candidate for the Vikings as they’ll have Dalvin Cook coming off IR and Latavius Murray still under contract. With the Vikings in a much better position now to hold off on signing CFAs from other teams, they could be in a great position to reap the benefits. Potential: Very High

I like this trade. We needed a backup quarterback in case something happens to Cousins. We trade for one and acquire an extra draft pick this year. Our GM likes to draft at least 10 players per draft. We are up to 8.

We give up a 5th round draft pick next year but we are expected to receive some compensatory picks for losing the Keenum, Bradford, Bridgewater and McKinnon. Over the Cap is predicting 3 extra picks for next year. So we can afford to lose that 5th rounder in 2019.

With the 107th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, The NY Jets select Darius Leonard, S Carolina State, OLB, a good ball hawking LB and great sideline to sideline range, necessary in a division to cover Gronk, plays bigger than his size (Colts should look at him) :).

Next on the clock is @Finball and The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Leonard was selected by Track Guy in the third round.

    Thanks to whomever pinned it.

So executive decision, due to the FA period, and round 4 begin times being so close, I'm going to temporarily put a pause onto the clock until 6 pm tonight. In years passed, the site would get so laggy that it'd crash and this is in order to let people focus on the FA bash for a little bit. We'll pick back up with the Dolphins picking (browns traded their pick in the 4th apparently) at 6 pm. I'll be making that selection unless there is a consensus due to that team all but being abandoned

Thank you. Will we skip the compensatory picks in this round? Just wanted to be prepared, as I think the Vikings may have one (I am not sure).
