  1. The Colts did not score well in the red zone this year. A lot of that was due to the type of plays that we ran in the red zone, and the fact that we couldn't run it well in the red zone (Luck led the team in rushing TDs). This signing screams RED ZONE target, but not necessarily someone that we can use all throughout the field.

  2. I wouldnt say they held up, if im not mistaken, they sacked luck in the 4th qtr.
I'm surprised that my comment about the NFC defense letting up in the fourth is being challenged as much as it is. There are two options in what you can believe:

Option A: The defense was playing intensely in a Pro Bowl game where the score going into the fourth was 52-21, and they did not let up at all,

    Or

Option B: the defense, the offense, everyone and their grandmother knew the game was over and that it was time to play out the remainder of the game without getting anyone injured.

  3. Can't see KC happening. They gave Cassel a ton of money and still have him under contract for 2 years. Plus, the fanbase is screaming to draft a QB with the first pick. That has to be on the minds of the FO. I just can't see them paying Cassel's gauranteed money AND giving Alex a hefty paycheck (which he will want) as well.

Jets - Would he even take it if they offered? Plus the same situation in KC applies here, there's another QB on the roster eating up a lot of money.

Browns - They won't give up on Weeden this early

Arizona - Porous O-line, but Arians coming in is an exciting premise I bet, as well as rivaling SF two times a year. Plus, Larry Fitzgerald.

Jags - What will they do about Gabbert...I don't know. Henne is only a band-aid. Serviceable if you want a 6 win season. But Jax seems like a good fit for Alex.

I agree with a lot of the points that you've made. Just wanted to comment on a few things.

Arians: He likes a downfield vertical passing attack. Alex Smith has made a career doing two things:

    1. Short passes, with the occasional long pass to Vernon Davis

    2. Check downs to Frank Gore.

In Arians offense, he'd be asked to air it out--which is not Alex Smith's strength-- and there aren't check downs.

The Jaguar fan base, for the most part, think that Blaine Gabbert is better than Alex Smith (yes, as crazy as that sounds). This wouldn't be the move that they would want to see. If the FO wanted to bring in another QB to challenge Gabbert, they would prefer that it should be someone else--someone much better. The FO might feel differently and think that Alex Smith is a good fit.

  4. That's not True. The 2 TD's he threw, that CB was trying to cover AJ.

But the Corner does not constitute the entire defense. Jarred Allen and others had a shot(s) at Luck several times and avoided contact with him. They pulled back big time in the fourh. I am the biggest Luck supporter there is, but I gotta call 'em as I see 'em. He padded his stats, and I enjoyed watching every throw-- albiet agains a very relaxed defense.

  5. Well, if you could start a team, and you could choose any player from any era, at any position, I'm sure that Moss would be one of the receivers. Of course, he'd be teamed up with Jerry Rice, but it would be hard to choose one over the other. They have different skill sets that set them apart.

  6. The goal of every team, every year, is to make it to the SuperBowl. Will adding Revis, but taking away available funds and a first round pick get us to the Super Bowl next year? Is there a better way to get us there?

I look at the Ravens and the Niners, both teams with stout offensive and defensive lines. I think that's a better starting point. Neither team has a bad secondary-- but no one like Revis. I think we can look for quality at all positions, rather than a gem at one or a few positions. I'd rather look to upgrade just about everywhere than just some positions. By paying Revis too much, we will limit what we can do.

  7. The week after the Colt's season was over, Luck traveled back to California, training at Stanford. That's also when Arian's took the Arizona head coaching job, and Pep Hamilton was hired as the OC. I am sure that when Pep returned to Stanford from Oregon, he and Luck met and they probably already started talking about the "new Colt's offense," and what they could keep from Arian's system and what they should include with Pep Hamilton's system.

The "hybrid offense" is great news, because I do not want the Colts to be conservative. Yes, I think we all felt that we could have used more roll-outs and shorter passes in certain games, but I did like it that we were a big-play offense. This, to me, is the best of both worlds. We can be a more accurate and effective offense, while retaining the killer instincts.

I also like that Luck and the existing Colt's players will help to mold the new offense. I'm excited to see it.

  8. I think that Ballard, Brown, and Carter are the three backs that we will go with. If the need arrises during the season to add to the RB depth, I think that Grigson can find back-ups. For now, I don't see the RB position as an area that needs to be addressed, especially not in the third round.

  9. Grigson has said all of the right things. He's protecting his players and thanking them for overcoming so much adversity. But make no mistake about it, he's definitely looking to improve the O-line. He knows that's his first priority, especially being an O-lineman himself. He would be the first to recognize that the O-line was a weakness for our team.

  10. Since Pep has history running a similar offense as Harbaugh and Greg Roman, now with the Niners, I think that it would make sense to look at Alex Smith's numbers to see how he faired in this offense. (Kaepernick runs some spread read, so he isn't the best comparison from the Niners).

    2011:16 Games- 273 of 445 61.3% Comp 61.3Comp.% 3,144 Yards 7.07YPA 17TDs 5INTs 90.7% Rating

    2012:10 Games- 153 of 218 70.2% Comp 70.2Comp.% 1,737 Yards 7.97YPA 13TDS 5INTs 104.1% Rating

Alex Smith is not known for pushig the ball downfield. He is relatively safe and prefers to check down rather than throw the ball into tight windows. I think that Luck will greatly improve his completion percentage this year, will have a much better quarterback rating, and will throw for about the same amount of yardage, over 4,000 yards.

  11. This means that the offensive players will be learning their second offensive system in two consecutive years, with the exception of Luck, Fleener, and Whalen. I am aware that it was unavoidable once Arians left, however, guys like Reggie will not be happy about the change. Especially after he had such a great year this season. He would have to start all over again, and he's most likely not sure how he will be used.

Dwayne Allen, along with Fleener will thrive in this type of offense. The Stanford offense uses the tight ends very well.

Andrew Luck will continue to be brilliant.

I am curious to see what changes occur with our O-line and blocking schemes--especially in our run game.

  12. Well, if these accounts are true, then here's an early look of what the Colt's passing offense might look like. You will notice Luck, Fleener, and Whalen in these highlights- all Colts players now.

At first, I was hesitant to change from BA's "air it out" offense, but many of us wanted to see more role-outs and more completions. This has me a little excited, as long as we don't go ultra conservative, I can be good with this.

  13. All I hope for is that if Pep Hamilton is the new OC, we better not be ultra conservative.

Arian's trusted Luck to make difficult throws in difficult situations, and that's what led to our great season. I do not want to run a draw on 3rd-and-10. Let's go for the first down! Luck led the league on--third-and-8 or more yards to go, and that's what sustained drives that led us to win numerous games.

  14. We all know as Colts fans that Peyton Manning had an incredible influence on the offense that we ran when he was here.

Is it possible that Luck, too, can have this type of influence? He's already accustomed to Pep's style of offense from Stanford and is now accustomed to Arian's style of offense. Is there any chance that Luck says" Let's take the best of both approaches and be unpredictable." Let's be at times, ground and pound, and at times let's air it out and take shots downfield.

  15. We are all assuming that if Pep joins the Colts, he will continue to run the same exact Stanford offense. Jim Harbaugh now runs a different style of offense than he did at Stanford. Some things are the same, but he's changed the offense to suit his players.

That's what I expect to happen if Pep is hired. Pep may do some things similarly, but will have to change his playbook to better suit the NFL defenses that the Colts face, and to suit his players. We don't have a smash mouth O-line, and we are built to be a passing team with all of the speed that we have with our receivers and TEs.

  16. So is the OP asking what starters on this team would be starters for the 49ers?

This is a really weird question to present.

The Forty Niners, by some, are considered to be the most complete and "deepest" team in the NFL. I think the question is a good one in that it's asking how far are we from being as complete, and do we have any talent that would start for that team. The answers thus far would indicate that we only have a few players that would start on the Forty Niners. This means that we have so much work to do, to be as solid of a team as they are.

  17. 1. The Texans appear to be our biggest threat. They are still a very complete team and it looks like they will continue to be next year. Just as we will look to improve with draft picks, they will be looking to do the same. I think that we can expect them to look for a difference making receiver to accompany Johnson.

    2. The Titans have shown this year that they have a strong defensive front and a good LB corps. They, like us are lacking in their secondary. I expect them to look to upgrade here. Their offense is now in the hands of Locker, and next year may be the "make or break" year for him. He had mixed results this year and no one is sure that he is the answer at QB. They may start to run the pistol or spread read-option since he is very mobile and recent trends show how effective this style of offense can be. They will also be looking to upgrade their O-line--who isn't?

    3. The Jaguars have many issues, starting with their O-line and moving to the most important position, the QB. Currently, they do not have a QB on their roster that would scare many NFL defenses. If they stick with Gabbert, that would be the best thing they could do for us. MJD is approaching his last year of his contract, so I expect him to try to earn a new high-paying one.

    4. The COLTS!!! We have struck gold this past draft. Obviously the addition of Andrew Luck and the acquisition of many additional talented rookies has positioned us for many years of future success. We need to address the O-line (badly) and our secondary and we can be in contention for a superbowl. Obviously there are more holes to fill than just what I've mentioned, but I've never seen a "perfect" team. We just need to address these issues without a drop-off in other positions and we should be fine. The great thing is that with our draft picks and the cap space, we can actually look to have a complete team, or pretty close.

If Ihad to rank the teams as they could rank in 2013, I would say:

    1. Texans

    2. Colts

    3. Titans

    4. Jaguars
