  1. I'm not entirely convinced we'll trade for a WR.

We're light on picks in the draft as it is, and anyone available for a trade doesn't seem worth it.

I'm convinced that Grigson et al. have a long term plan that will build a team with a realistic, solid, chance of winning the Super Bowl in a few years. Hopefully several Super Bowls. Using up picks for short-term gains with little long term future is not the way to go about building a team for the future, and I'm pretty sure Grigson et al knows this very well.

  2. - Protecting Luck (Should be a grade A no-brainer that we need to keep Luck upright)

    - Pass rush (Mathis isn't getting younger, even if he's still doing pretty well for us)

    - WR (Wayne wont last forever, even if it would be great)

T-Rich & Ballard, should have us covered at RB, even if Bradshaw/Brown are not resigned.

I have a feeling that we might look for a WR in free agency.

Bethea has to be resigned, if not... We have a big hole to fill right there.

  3. Well even the top talent-ratings at NFL.com have Warford around 40th best player (at best), or below, in the draft class this year since apparently the guys at NFL.com is the benchmark.

So maybe taking him @ 24 would be a reach.. Just saying there might be a better player available, or that it could make sense trading back into the early part of the second round and still getting him + an extra pick somewhere.

I'm not claiming that the mocks are some kind of gold standard, but it's the same guys making them, that you earlier claimed was the premier judges of player talent and ability.

EDIT - And by the way, the mock i was referring to was made by the NFL.com analysts, not some random site.

  4. Yes he is and it's been discussed at length in this thread.

That's your view of things, not mine. Your opinion seems to be a minority one at that.

Taking Warford @ 24 would be reaching quite a bit. I'm pretty certain that if we traded down into the early half of the second round, we would still get him if we really want him.

There's just no way Warford is the BPA when picking @ 24.

  5. This team has put itself in the position to take any player they want short of QB, RB, or TE.      Yes, they don't need a RB in round one.    They can get a player every bit as talented as Lacy in the 4th if they wish.   Bell, Burkhead, Ball, Taylor, Gillespie... and on and on..   There IS NO ADRIAN PETERSON in this draft.

Guard would be a fine selection if Warmack or Cooper are there,. heck I would not be mad if they got Watford.    Luck was running for his life last season.   That has got to stop, and it will.      Don't be shocked to see a G taken first.

All that said.....   IMO, I think OLB is the pick in the first round.     If they use it.

Ogletree, Brown, Collins would all be outstanding picks to help this front 7.    Yes, yes...  I know Og and Brown are listed at ILB.    But I have seen BOTH play and they will play anywhere our staff would want them to play.   They are "play makers"  in every sense.

CB...   I would not mind one if certain players are gone but personally I feel that a "very good" pass rush will make our CB's look "very good" ..      I think the rush has to be taken care of first.     Then worry about the D backfield.   JMO.

WR...   I would love to see a WR taken first,  Wayne is not getting any younger so if the right player is there I can see Indy going in this direction.  Personally...   i like T Austin...    Wayne, Hilton and Auston would be a nightmare for any DC with our TE's ......  WOW... the possibilities.     But TA will not be there.....

I hate picking @ #24 this year. It seems like all the elite talent will be snapped up ahead of us, and anyone we could pick would be a slight reach @ 24..

With our new WR, I can't see us picking a WR in the first round, even if I like Tavon Austin (won't be available) and Robert Woods (reach).

To me it seems that protecting Luck and rushing the other teams QB is the most important areas.

Sure would like to have Cooper or Warmack, but they'll both be gone @ 24, and Warford is not a #24 overall pick.

Pass rushers @ 24? Is there really someone who's worthy of that, someone worthy of replacing a player with Freeneys history?

I wouldn't be surprised if we trade down..

  6. Not sure you can call all 1st round recievers either Nicks, Jones or Green.

Just saying it is no where near our biggest need.

Obviously not all 1st round recievers are at their level, or will ever be. I was simply pointing out that there's nothing wrong with spending a first round pick on a WR, if you believe that there are elite-level talent available. Exceptional and elite players that can really make the difference, are ALWAYS worth a first round pick, no matter what position they might play.

Last season we started with Reggie, Collie, Avery, T.Y. & Brazil. Now Collie and Avery is gone.. It should be obvious that we'll need at least one other WR. We might not pick him in the first round, but I'll put good money on us picking at least one.

1st. round will be either a Guard, an OLB or a WR, depending on what happens ahead of us. Not entirely sure that the Guards outside Cooper/Warmack are worth a first round pick though..

  7. Honestly? another thread about using our 1st pick on a WR.

Did we learn nothing from the Polian era??

Given the fact that we currently only have Reggie + two players each with only one year of experience (T.Y., and Brazil), it would make sense to bring in a top talent, if available.

Besides I doubt the Falcons are sorry that they picked Julio Jones, nor are the Bengals sorry that they picked AJ Green or the Giants for picking Hakeem Nicks in the first round.

It would make a lot more sense, than to bring in a CB in the first round, in my opinion.

If one of the top Guards (Cooper/Warmack) should somehow fall to us, I would grab them over a WR though. But that isn't a very likely scenario.

  8. Protecting Luck and/or supplying him with weapons is my guess right now.

So either a WR (we need more options besides Reggie, T.Y. and Brazil). If Tavon Austin falls to us, why not grab him.

Don't believe that we could be so lucky as to see Warmack drop all the way to us, and Cooper will also be gone by then, but maybe Grigson really like one of the other Guards. If he doesn't I think a scenario where we trade down with the niners is quite plausible.

A SS seems highly unlike right now, and I don't believe we'll be going for a 1st round CB, not for a second.

I wouldn't mind us grabbing Tavon Austin though.

  9. Most teams will look completely different in 4 years. Building for the future is a process... but 3-4 years from now. Sure, why not.

A couple of A-Grade drafts and Luck, Ballard, Hilton, Fleener, Allen and hopefully Chapman as well, maturing and turning into elite NFL players at their respective positions.. It's not a completely crazy idea, but it's not a certainty either. Not by a long shot.

  10. We have tons of needs..

Both D-Line and O-line could clearly need better talent. I have high expectations for Chapman as our future NT.

OLB - Freeney is a question mark, so OLB is an area that needs attention.

ILB - A top prospect like Te'o would be a great addition, and improve our defense a great deal. But he's probably the only ILB I would spend a first round pick on as it's not the position we're worst at.

CB - Our CB's have not been as bad as everyone expected, but could still be improved a lot.

WR's - Wayne is still great, but not getting any younger. Collie is probably done. Avery, Hilton, Brazil have done okay, but a top WR prospect is always interesting.

Safety - Could use an upgrade, however I don't think a first round pick would be the smartest move. In my opinion we would be better of picking at another defensive position (OLB, ILB, DT)

RB's - Brown and Ballard have been doing okay. Nothing spectacular, but probably not an area where we will spend a first round pick.

QB - Set for years to come

TE - We should be set for a long time with Fleener/Allen

Overall, I hope we go for D-line/OLB pass rusher first, but I'm with the "Drafting for needs is a bad strategy" crowd. Draft the most talented player available, with slight reservations of course. It wouldn't make sense drafting a QB, when we have Luck, but if the most talented player available is a CB or an ILB, you get him. Elite talent is just the way to go in my book.

  11. It will, of course, never go down like this. Falcons winning the Super Bowl? I'll see that before I believe it.

Anyway - Star would be a sweet addition to our team.

Interestingly enough seeing how several have both Hankins/Star going very early, as well as OT's like Lewan/Joeckel/Matthews going in the top 10.

For me as of this moment, I would rank my favorite picks as:

    - Star Lolutelei

    - Manti Te'o

    - Chance Warmack

    - Jarvis Jones

However, I'm not really sure any of them will be available when we pick in the draft. Chance Warmack seems the most likely player to be available as things are going right now.
