  1. It all depends on the price. I think everyone would like to have Mack at Center, but even great players can be to expensive.

It's all about "Value for money".

Mack is the best at his position, and you can never have to many players on your team that are the best at what they do. If it can be done at a reasonable price, I'm on board. If it's to expensive, get another good center

  2. Surely we should "investigate". That doesn't cost us anything. If a deal would be over the top, walk away and focus on other options. If a deal can be made within what Grigson considers reasonable, then get it done.

Suggesting we should just forget about signing the best available player at a position where we have a glaring hole to fill, without even trying to find out if it could be done, is just plain nonsense.

  3. First off, you realize if a player makes 3 million a year they clear about 1 million. After taxes and the agent is paid.

Second, Do you think a 1500 square foot home is a big house?

If you make 3 million a year and is left with 1 after taxes and agent fees, then you most be signed up with Don King and lets face it, the taxes are not that high. And even if that "horrible" scenario should happen, that you would only be left with 1 million, you could probably get by just fine.

And we're not only talking about players who are in that bracket. We're also talking about players who has to choose between making 10-15 million a year, or scraping by on a deal perhaps 20% lower, at the later part of their carreers, to get the chance to actually win something and not just get paid to play. Some of these players have made 20-30-40 million already, but apparently the money is still the only motivation in your mind? So be it.

No, I don't think that a 1500 square foot home is big. For all I care, triple it - then double it if that helps you get the point. I'm sure you got it in the first place.

  4. Most players have a very short career. They need to make what they can while their body can hold up. Many times their bodies are shot by the end of their career as well. How much is that worth?

My two cents... Way to simple.

Now, there are players who are not exactly making the mega $$. Roster players who only play rarely and are worried about getting cut every year. For players like that, get paid as much as you can is the smartest move.

But then there are other players, household names. Starters who make serious money. Sure there's always risk when playing pro football, but once you've made 10 million$, like a ton of these guys do in a few years, setting yourself up financially for the future shouldn't be very difficult. In fact you would have to be very unintelligent not to be set for life. Your kids as well.

So maybe someone else at your level makes 10 mio.$ a year, playing for a team going nowhere or a "1 and out" playoff team. Would you really turn down the chance to win a ring or two while "only" making 7 or 8 million$ for a couple of years?

I'm quite sure you would be able to scrape by on such a salary, even while having a Ferrari and a Benz in the garage of your 1500 square feet home.

Comparing these things to "regular people" distorts the reality here. Anyone working a "normal" job, would of course go for the money if they had the chance to make 50% more, but once you've already made more money than you can spend, even if you live a life in luxury, the perspective changes.

Take DeMarcus Ware - If he goes for the money, he'll end up on a team without any realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl. Do you really think he hasn't already made more than enough money with the Cowboys to secure himself and his famliy? So what if he can get that ring that has eluded him, by "only" making 10 million over the next two years, as opposed to maybe making 15 millions with the Raiders. Is those 5 million really going to be the deciding factor considering how much money he has made during his career? I seriously doubt it.

  5. We need Center, Safety, CB. Why haven't we signed a guard???

We need to sign a Center and we definitely a Safety.

We'll draft O-Line, CB, WR, LB, and RB.

Be patient, we will sign a Center. I would have liked to have Asamoah, but maybe Grigson doesn't feel that there's sufficient bang for the buck in the available options at Guard. Maybe he will sign someone tomorrow or the day after. Not everything has to be done on Day 1. It can't be.

We still have lots of players we need to resign before dipping into the FAs to fill gaps in depth.

I doubt that a RB is high on our board in the draft, having resigned Bradshaw and already having T-Rich and Ballard. Maybe Safetys are high on our board.

  6. What type of input does Pagano and the rest of the coaching staff have in Grigson's decisions?

Hard to tell for sure, but it would be a surprise to me if they didn't work closely together. After all Pagano and the coaching staff see the players on a daily basis, plot their progress and work and they probably have strong feelings about what they feel the team needs and what they expect some from some of the younger players.

If we imagine that Pagano and the coaching staff think that our current crop of WRs is up to the task, it would surprise me if Grigson went out and threw big $$ after a player like Nicks or Decker. On the other hand, if they're not convinced that the current selection of WRs will cut it, and need a proven player, I'm sure that Grigson will have known this for some tme and take their concerns and opinions into consideration.

It would be a big surprise to me if Pagano wasn't in on the signing of Arthur Jones.

  7. With Satele out, we will sign a Center.

Mack will be expensive for sure, but he's still the best Center available by far.

I'm still hoping that we go after him. Elite teams have elite players.

But we'll probably sign some medium player and throw a ton of money after Decker instead of focusing on upgrading our weakest area of the team to a strong point.

  8. Denver is the place for good FA's who are aging to take a lower value contract to try and win themselves a ring.  This wouldn't surprise me at all if Ware went there.

They managed to sign TJ Ward for cheap.

I agree. Allen and Ware might very well be considering making slightly less money to get that ring. Broncos made it to the Super Bowl, and will be competitive next season as well, especially with another beast or two in D.

I'm sure both Ware and Allen, and the next generations of their families, won't exactly be starving even if they played for free for the rest of their careers, so why not go for the ring
