  1. I've been thinking about it alot and unlike in previous drafts I felt we should go for BPA based on need, In this draft I think we should go BPA with the exception of QB, RB, TE. All other positions should be fair game to me even if that means drafting a player that dont fit your scheme like a glove, you fit your scheme around that players talents. We need playmakers, There are playmakers in this draft at every position. Use FA to upgrade weak spots unless

I agree with regards to the BPA in the draft, to some extent.

To me, it all boils down to what happens in FA. Who leaves and who joins. Perhaps we sign a WR. Perhaps Grigson, Pagano and the coaching staff is satisfied with the group of WRs we have. Perhaps we sign an ILB or a CB. Maybe we sign an FS, maybe Bethea stays.

A lot of scenarios could very well exclude more positions from the BPA route, just like currently it would make no sense picking a QB, TE or RB, especially with our 2nd or 3rd rounders.

  2. Yeah not having a 1st round pick is not a good thing...especially when your already drafting low in each round and you trade that 1st rounder.........Ah forget it

    Hindsight is always 20/20.

I still think T-Rich can become a great RB, even if his first season with us was less than impressive.

He would never have been picked @ 3rd overall if he didn't have the tools and the talent to become a top level RB.

Let's just hope that he starts living up to the potential that's clearly there

  3. I feel confident that Grigson and the coaching staff will make a good judgement call. If they feel that there's a WR available in the draft or in FA that would be good "value for money/pick" and would improve our team, fine by me. If they feel that we have a WR group that can do the job, fine by me. After all, they get to work with the WR group every day, so they're probably better suited to judge them than any of us, so if they have confidence in Rodgers, Whalen, Brazil and Reggies ability post injury, so have I.

Getting Decker would be expensive, and would cut into the available money for upgrading other areas of the team where we might need to focus (O-line, ILB & Safety).

What happens in the draft would obviously depend on what we do in FA, both players coming in and leaving.

  4. Really??? You do know those SB rings don't bring much when you go to pawn them and pay your rent? NFL players have 2-3 yrs on avg to make their money that will set them up for the next 30-40 yrs. Sure some will find other jobs but few will find jobs paying the nfl minimum for example. So forgive them if they don't go ahead and take as much as they can earn...because it has to last the rest of their lives...and if they intend to live a lifestyle of a professional athlete and have a nice house and cars etc...they will need every penny...most go broke within the first 10 yrs out of the league. Championships don't put food on the table or buy you that nice house in the suburbs. Pure hard cash does. Perhaps when you are already sitting on millions and a couple rings are what will land you endorsements and legacy within the league that you can cash in...sure you may sacrifice a bit...but few have much to gain $$ wise from being a SB winner. Do you even know the center for the Seahawks? Do you think he is going to somehow turn his SB win into cash for life? Doubtful. Mack should take the best deal...and that can mean having some sort of happiness playing there...who wants to go to work miserable...so sure we may have some leverage there...but when it comes down to millions...take the money.

Come on. A little simple isn't it?

We're not talking about playing for a minimum wage versus megamillions. It's not only about the money. Being in a team that can do well matters as well as does a lot of other factors.

Wether you have a contract for 11 million a year or 10 million a year, isn't really that much of a difference. The notion that it has to last them the rest of their lives... You would have to be a complete * if you would blow something like 20-30 million (over a career). Even if you only put half of that into some plain bonds, you would be making more than a very decent living, without ever working for another minute in your life. At 5-6% interest... You do the math.

If you're talking about the players who barely makes the rosters and are on minimum contracts, then it's a different matter of course. But players like Mack who can get big contracts anywhere, there are more to it, than just the numbers on the paycheck.

  5. Asamoah, De la Puente/Mack in FA would be great. Thomas getting healthy, and staying healthy, would be an improvement.

Not convinced that we need a WR with Reggie coming back and Rogers, Whalen and Brazill showing improvement.

LT - Not something we need in my opinion.

Go all D in the draft - What positions depends on who we sign to new deals.

  6. Our real problem this season was defending against the run, not the pass.

So our CB's are not are biggest problem. There's always room for improvement at CB, but defending against the run should be our main concern. ILB and Safety as well as D-Line should be adressed along with pass rush and our O-line.

    Just my two cents

  7. Pretty much nails it:

Andrew Luck needs help. He did too much of the heavy lifting for a mediocre defense, subpar offensive line and banged-up skill position arsenal. The Colts entered 2013 free agency with as much salary-cap space as any team in the league. While general manager Ryan Grigson added depth and filled several vacancies in the starting lineup, he failed to add impact players. With more than $30 million available again this year, Grigson must do better this time around.

The interior of the offensive line was a major problem for the second consecutive year. It's time for an overhaul. The Colts will also welcome back reinforcements in Reggie Wayne, Dwayne Allen and Vick Ballard, while Ahmad Bradshaw reaches free agency. Wayne will be entering his age-35 season, so they will need development from Da'Rick Rogers, LaVon Brazill or both. On top of that, the coaching staff will need to teach Trent Richardson how to walk off an elevator before the doors close.

As Luck did on offense, Defensive Player of the Year candidate Robert Mathis carried the defense. He turns 33 next month, which leaves pass rusher as a priority this offseason. The defensive line and secondary must also be tweaked after allowing 44 and 43 points in back-to-back playoff games.

  8. I have to say that I don't really feel a need for a WR early in the draft.

Reggie will be back next year, T.Y. is turning into a superstar, Rodgers shows promise and both Brazil and Whalen have stepped up lately. DHB will be gone for sure, and who knows what happens in the FA.

I would love to have McCullers in the third, but I doubt that he'll drop to the third round. Anyway, I would like to see McCullers suit up for the Colts.

Overall, I just think it's a little premature to speculate about what we need before the FA season starts and we know what players we will resign and who will be let go.

I only hope we get a couple of good, solid signings

  9. I haven't been a fan of Grigsons second shot at the draft, and overall less than impressed with the FA signings in his second year either.

The T-Rich trade hasn't paid off, but I still believe that the kid is talented and could become a better than average future starter at RB. There is a reason why he was picked #3 overall in the draft.

The biggest problem we had this year was injuries - Had we not had season ending injuries to Ballard & Bradshaw, the T-Rich trade would never have happened. Losing Donald Thomas and Dwayne Allen was a big blow early and we would have been a much better team with them. Losing a player like Reggie Wayne midway through the season would hurt most teams, and it hurt us as well.

Still, we made the playoffs, beat Chiefs and lost out to The Brady Bunch.

I would say we've had a good season overall. It could have been better, but as a whole we did pretty well.

A lot of relatively inexperienced players grew and surprised most of us. Whalen stepped up, Rodgers as well (let's hope he keeps his head straight), Fleener grew, Brazil showed promise as did Havili.

Add to that the growth of Luck and T.Y. and we have a pretty solid foundation to build on for the future.

There are clearly areas of the team that could use an upgrade, especially the trenches and pass rush. But things could be a whole lot worse than what they are .

Lets just hope that we hit a couple of home runs in FA and the draft
