  1. Well, since #18 is not around anymore, I would have to say that it's between Reggie and Mathis.

I have to say though, that Zbikowski is my kinda player as well...

Watched the "Everything to prove" videos on NFL.com, and I really liked what I saw from Dwayne Allen. Real down to earth kinda guy with his head on straight. He seemed like a really nice guy and a true professional.

But in a couple of seasons, we'll all probably, and hopefully, name Andrew Luck as our favorite.

  2. Jake Long would be a sweet addition to our O-line, and there's no sense in drafting a QB like Luck and not protecting him.

I would sign Long in a heartbeat, and go for a quality CB. Depending on how our WR's perform, then perhaps look for one of those.

It all depends on how Grigson views the potential draft targets that could fall to us next year, and he'll probably try to take care of needs through both FA and draft. If we can get a NFL proven WR starter, who's not to old, through FA, why use a first round pick on a WR? The same goes for other positions as well. The monster is built through both the FA and the draft, and I'm 100% certain that Irsay, Grigson and the rest of the organisation knows this very well.

  3. I just dont see us going after to many free agents. Build through the draft. Why rebuild a team with old(in football years) players? Thats like going to the park to play basketball and picking upo your team from the seniors center on the way out. I see a couple free agents, unless our FA from this year don't pan out. I hate to say it, but it seems to be a curse to pull a high profile FA away from there team to have them flop. happens alot for alot of money. It also seeme like there is a good draft class next year. Jenkins would have been a hassle. The Rams have people assigned to check in with him a couple times a day. He is a grown man by aw, time to act like it nstead of gettting a FO babysitter

Well, you don't have to be "old" to be a FA. Through FA you can get players who have proven that they can compete in the NFL, not kids who have never played a single down in the NFL. You only get so many elite picks in the draft, and it's always a gamble.

Sure there are some FA's who get overpaid, but that has been known to happen with regard to 1st round picks in the draft as well. Quite a few $ have been flushed down the drain on 1st round picks that turned out not to have what it takes to play in the NFL anyway. I think there are quite a few teams out there, that knows what I'm talking about.

Why not go both the FA and the draft way, and pick up the quality you can get from both?

  4. Lots of quality in that first round next year.. I like Star Olutelei, Manti Te'o, Amerson, Woods and plenty of other kids that would potentially be good additions to our squad.

But a lot can happen in a year with injuries, off the field issues and so on. A few kids could also emerge, that's not in anyones sights right now.

Guys who are already Colts could also have serious, even carreer-ending, injuries and that might change our perspective going into the 2013 draft, with regards to "what we need". We also don't know what will happen in free agency after this season, we might get a few solid starters there, we might not who knows?

With so many unknown, and unpredictable variables, it's simply to early to call.

  5. The addition of Satele, Redding, McKinney, Justice, Zbikowski and Avery in free agency and the addition of Fleener, Allen, Hilton and Chapman looks pretty good to me. Sure, we could have a stronger crop of CB's and better RB's, but we knew that we couldn't cover everything at once. Especially with the cap situation.

But I doubt that most of us, expected us to be Super Bowl contenders this season anyway. We'll do decently this season, but probably won't make the playoffs. Next season we'll have more cap space, giving us the chance to make some moves in free agency, and with a solid draft improve even more and have a reasonable to chance to make the playoffs.

It takes time to build a team that can compete deep into the playoffs, but we're on the right path.

  6. I see him as a potential Pro Bowler if he gets healthy and works well in our system

I was just referring to him on a "day one" basis. That he's probably not going to be the benchmark for all others to be measured against right from the first couple of games.

If he can stay healthy and improve in a few areas, he could well be our guy, and a top notch one at that, for several years.

Can't really ask for more from a fifth round pick

  7. I doubt that most Colts fans see this kid as the next superstar, or even a solid starter from day one. But he has potential, a lot of upside, and could be a steal as a fifth round pick.

There are of course several questions that are yet to be answered

    - Will his knee be a problem?

    - Can he transition to the level of competition in the NFL, where he'll face fiercer competition than at college level from the oppositions O-Line

    - Will his "low" weight be a problem?

As far as value for draft round goes, I think he's a really great pick.

  8. Overall, I'm pretty pleased about the result of the draft. I think Grigson did a good job.

I like Grigson and how he handles himself. He seems to be very detail-oriented and knows every little thing about every single prospective player. At least he stays true to his board and gets what he thinks is the BPA for the future.

It would be interesting to get a glimpse into what he had preferred to draft, had the options been there in round 3 and on, but that'll never happen and he needs to stay true to and support the kids that we got.

I also like what he did in free agency, something that in my opinion is at least as important as the draft, if not more so.

Can't wait for the season to start, and I'm already curious about next years free agency and draft.

  9. I care where where players outside the first 2 rounds are drafted. IMO you are way underrating the importance of later rounds ... Brady 6th, Colston 7th, Bethea 6th, McAfee 7th, Carl Nicks 5th, Garcon 6th, etc .... these are just a few late rounders, so where someone goes "outside round 1 or 2" plays a major role in building a team.

It's seems a little onedimensional, only to name a few players who was late round draft picks and have since turned out to be solid NFL players. You could easily find a ton of players drafted from round 4 and on that never turned out to be anything near NFL standard.

For every "Brady" and even "Garcon" there are tons af complete busts in those late rounds.

  10. Bottomline, Gronkowski had the more upside and although his success in the NFL is a little unexpected, he is a monster and he was in college. He had more upside than Fleener. Now, Fleener is more athletic and could become a top 10 TE like Gronkowski, with the right QB. If both were in the same draft and I had to pick one of them, I'd pick Gronk because of his upside, but Fleener could become a stud TE.

If you only compare statistics, you miss a big part of the equation - Fleener can't block. There's more to being a TE in the NFL than just catching passes from the QB, and Fleener is below average on a crucial point for his particular position, especially with all the focus on pass rushing in the NFL.
