  1. Can I ask a simple question. WHY ARE WE NOT SIGNING GARRARD. He can throw, move in the pocket, and has expierience and has wins under his belt. JIM IRSAY sign DAVID GARRARD! This is season is 0-3 we need a change I saw wonderful life in Indy against the steelers we need a new quarterback, we cannot count on painter playin well everygame. Collins is too old and fragile its over for him.

    He's not accurate.

    He's not disciplined.

He couldn't master the Jags offense.

    He doesn't know the playbook.

He doesn't want to be a stop gap 'til PM returns.

    All he is, is mobile.

If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.

  2. I have news for you.

After seeing this team sans-Manning, I'm not so sure we were a Super Bowl contender even with manning.

My opinion is that the Colts, in fact, are SB contenders with PM.

With an adequate and prepared back up QB, they're still playoff contenders.

We haven't seen an adequate and prepared QB yet this season.

This Monday we'll know a little bit more about Painter, and if he could fit that bill.

  3. Heres one comment I do agree with.

"you * do realize they aren't trying to bring in a replacement for Painter"

They should be. Orlovsky would be better.

I"m sick of people thinking painter might suddenly be decent because he completed 2 decent passes on one drive.

He also blew a sure TD pass that 99.9% of nfl backups would make. Then he fumbled and gave away another TD. Then on one drives he completes a couple passes. Same old, same old. I guarantee Orlovsky wouldn't have overthrown the wide open Garcon on that play. Painters crappy play lost that game, although yeah...he completed two nice medium ranged passes to Garcon on another drive. Whoopadedoo

    To Mr. FiveBanners:

Guess what? Painter MIGHT suddenly be decent.

PM has overthrown a few open receivers over the past couple of years (possibly due to his neck situation).

Painter has yet to throw 6 INTs in one game. Yes, it's still early, but he hasn't done it yet.

I don't see anyone sayin' Painter IS going to get us to the playoffs.

People simply see he was more productive than Collins has been to this point, and it was a little inspiring.

Offers a bit of hope, at least this week.

After Monday's game we can re-address our opinions.

  4. To Jason:

Not that this exact scenario could come true, but I'm on board with the premise.

I'm not for taking Luck under these circumstances, but that's under the assumption that Manning will retire after his present contract is up.

You can go on and on with this scenario, still keeping a couple of number 1s, adding the the back of the draft, and adding to the top of next years draft, and keep it going. I don't long to be the Patriots, but I think what they've done the past couple of years in the draft is pretty smart. Now they just have to hit on many of those picks.

This scenario would bode well for preparing, not only for the end of Manning's career, but for the post Manning Colts. Along the way, you pick up a top QB in the first a couple of years down the road, and let him spend a couple of years behind Peyton. Then it's on us (O.K., the Colts) to hit on many of those picks.

  5. I have no problem with Pollak, if he turns out to be the center he's projected to be right now.

I thought Brown was a good idea at the time, but he's clearly out of the picture next year, if not sooner. I'm of the opinion that he was a part of the supposed trade the Colts were trying to work out at the end of training camp. Whatever happened to that, I don't know.

I have no problem waiting for Hughes. Though I also recall him being projected as a pass rushing OLB at draft time. That doesn't mean it won't work out though. There aren't many opportunities for him to play right now with 4 DEs ahead of him (2 pro-bowl rushers, and two run stuffers).

Speaking of his projected position though, both of our pro-bowlers could be near the end of their careers, at least with the Colts. We bring in Anderson & Brayton (bigger run stuffers), who's ages I'm too lazy to look up right now. We seem to be drafting a bit bigger guys lately. Did Coyer run cover 2 in Denver? What's his preferred defense? Could it be we're already in the process of changing defensive schemes?

Gonzo: I like him. OR, I like my recollection of what he was/could be. Last year was wasted for him, and it wasn't his fault. This year he's being held out, first due to recovering from a nagging injury, and now I believe it's because of the unsettled QB situation (why bother until Kerry has his stuff down, save Gonzo for a more effective time). I think he has a much better chance of hanging around next year than Brown does.

Now to the main topic of the interview. I'm a Caldwell backer. Not that I'm blind, but I allow for mistakes, and growing pains, and the situation we've been in since early last season (injuries). That, plus I've not yet seen anything that blatantly tells me he's horrible. HOWEVER, Coyer's redirect of the question concerns me, though it may be out of ignorance (on my part). So, I gotta ask.....

The Colts are a pretty closed organization (Irsay tweets aside). They hold everything close to the vest, until they have to divulge information. That said, and me being from out of town, is it uncommon for the coordinators to give interviews? Could it be that there are topics he can discuss, and others that are to be directed to the HC or a Polian?

    Just asking.

  6. I'm hoping that this will be Link's last game as a starter. I continually search for logic in the decisions of the coaching staff, and I'm hoping that they are holding Ijalana out until after this game so Woodley doesn't destroy his confidence or something, and not because he can't beat Link out of a starting job.

Gee, I'm kinda hoping Link shows great improvement in his pass protection, and allows Ijalana to come in when/if he's ready.

  7. Okay few things:

Let's go with Link first. First of all Link does struggle very much in pass protection. However, just because that's the case doesn't mean we don't have a better option behind him. Diem is hurt and Ijalana doesn't seem to be ready yet. Again just because Link struggles does not make Ijalana ready. He only did okay vs. teams 2nd stringers and 3rd stringers in the pre-season. Also People just completely over look that Link is a good run blocker. Almost all of our good runs have come to the right side behind him which is why I would guess that Link is in there. The Colts have traded some pass protection to improve the run blocking which again is what everyone was calling for in the off-season.

It doesn't matter how long I am willing to ride Collins. It's not my call. I do expect the Colts to stick with him till they are out of the playoffs if they feel like he gives them the best chance to win. If they don't feel that is the case they will give Painter his chance. If w get to the point where we are out of the playoffs I would look for them to go to Painter IMO because at that point you should see how Painter does and it no longer makes sense to play the guy who is only here for this year.

Based on what I have seen from Painter he makes many of the same mistakes as Collins. He over throws WRs, he crumbles under a blitz and rather than fumble he throws INTs. Again, it's not like they never played Painter and went oh man this guy stinks go get Collins. They have had him on the roster for two years and played him as the starter in two pre-season games this year and he did nothing. Clearly the coaches were uncomfortable with what they saw in him or they wouldn't have signed Collins. He then had good quarter vs. the Packers (he started out very slow in that game) and it came against a team who has given up over 800 yards in pass defense threw two weeks. It could be part of his success was due to the Packers just not being that good on pass defense.

Also, again, my issue is with fans reversing course and acting like Painter is the answer now after they were calling for him to be released for two weeks ago. Go look up those threads. People were saying things like Painter doesn't even belong on a high school team. Now people are completely flipping their opinion on the subject and trying to act like the Colts were stupid for what they did even though they were calling for the Colts to do exactly what they did. If the Colts were wrong about this then so was everyone on this forum other than Smitto.

It's the old adage, 'The most popular guy in town is the back up QB'.

We haven't had to endure that for a while with PM in town.

  8. 1/8 of this season is gone, and the coaches and players say we are improving. is this team with this system going to make the playoffs or is the season gone? if it is gone why not rebuild and make changes and be ready for next year? how much can we improve to contend with all of our weak spots?

Get out of that dark corner.

    Go rent a good comedy.

  9. I am so with you Nate. Peyton is done for year and kerry just ain't gonna cut it for us here in Indy Garrard could definitely win us some games and at least we could have ticking running game all in one guy

Gerrard is a QB most had no respect for while with JAX.

He had less than a year of pretty good productivity.

His team thought so much of him that they drafted a QB high.

That same team decided he couldn't run their simplified offense smoothly, and cut him in favor of a journeyman, and a rookie.

And you expect him to run Peyton's offense and be effective with it, to the point of winning, this year?

Are you planning a change to the Wildcat?

  10. No diss, but are you serious? Packer fans pack their stadium if they are 0-16. Before Manning came, the RCA Dome was empty. My family used to make the drive to Indy for games every year. Not everyone went to the game; some of them would hang out at the mall and before Peyton's second year, you could not find people at Circle Center that even knew the score of the game. My mom once walked around looking for someone to give her updates while my dad, brothers, and I were at the game. No one knew... not even the guys in the sports stores. It was pathetic. I'm not knocking all you great Colts fans, but many of the people in Indy have been a dreadful example of "our boys" fans.

It could be a bit different for the Colts fan base after the Manning era, but it'd be difficult to match the Packer fan base. The Packers are community owned. You can hunt and fish (ice or otherwise) any day of the week, but the Packers only play on Sundays (O.K., with the occasional Thursday, Monday, or Saturday). That's about all the got besides work.

Indy's a much larger community, but still very small in comparison to many of the other NFL cities.

  11. Speak for yourself, when normal people dont perform at the workplace, they get fired. Every fan has the right to BOO, or cheer as loud as they can, and if they feel they are watching a sub-par performance, they have the right to display there anger.

For me, it's more a matter of trying or not. At least under the present circumstances.

  12. so you want to squeeze as much success as possible before peyton retires and our franchise becomes the laughing stock of the nfl again. glad you dont work for our FO.

No one can guarantee the Colts would become the laughing stock, and there's no guarantee Luck will be 'all that' in the NFL.

  13. I saw a survey, that asked colts fans if manning didn't return, would you still follow the colts. 27% of the people polled siad they wouldn't continue to follow the colts. That is alot of fans jumping ship.

That's because they're all Manning fans, and he just happens to play for the Colts.

I'm a Colts fan, and Peyton is our QB.

27% IS a big chunk, but I always question polls, until I know where, when, by whom it was taken, and how big the sample is.

Though I'd expect this could be fairly accurate, not knowing who our next 'franchise' player could be.

  14. I'm on the con side of this discussion as well.

Not that I don't see benefit in security (if it were effective). I just have a really difficult time with the freedom they feel in invading ours. It's one step at a time and we all have our limit of tolerance.

From the wise guy side of me, I can't determine which way to go with this. I'm torn between making an argument that this was part of the CBA. Goodell not only wanted to protect the players, but the fans also. OR, This has nothing to do with terrorism, but with European Soccer, and they're finally getting around to do something about it after the SF Giants fan incident.
