  1. I agree. For HC I don't think we necessarily have to go offensive or defensive minded, but rather with a guy who is a great motivational leader and an excellent teacher. A guy who can manage a game, work with both coordinators to game plan for each game and who can evaluate both player talent as well as coaching talent. A guy who understands that he has to coach the players AND the other coaches. Also a guy who will make the tough decisions when necessary for the better good of the franchise. A guy who has fire and emotion but also possesses the ability to control that emotion when needed and can also channel it correctly. These are all the reasons why Billick has always been my top choice. I'd love to see him back on the sidelines even if it's not with the Colts, though I hope not with the jags just for the fact I'd prefer he not go to a division rival. :)

However just to clarify, that doesn't mean I wouldn't give equal consideration to many of the talented coordinators and/or college coaches who may be interested in the job. My preferences would currently be Mike Zimmer, Chuck Pagano or Rob Ryan assuming they would be allowed to run the defense the way they want to and not be handcuffed into running the cover/tampa 2 (and that's assuming the reports about Coyer not being able to run the defense the way he wanted were true).

    I agree with Zimmer.

I don't know anything about Pagano.

I'm not for Ryan. Good DC, but I don't care for his demeanor. DC perhaps, but not HC.

  2. McNabb's decline started when Terrell Owens humiliated him on national television when he followed him all over the sidelines barking at him like he was a puppy. To this day I will never understand McNabb simply walking away from him like a coward. He should have turned to him and jumped down this throat like the leader of the should should do. He has never been the same since. He will take no one anywhere and so he should play golf with Farve (another QB that did not know when to quit).

I don't care for T.O., but perhaps he was speaking the truth, and McNabb couldn't dispute for fear of others jumping in.

  3. What about the greatest show on turf's Mike Martz? Just throwing a name out there.

I like Billick. I like Gruden, but wouldn't want him as a coach. He can be in the role of cheerleader, though.

I'm not a Mike Martz fan, at least not for the Colts.

Funny you should mention him though. With Coyer's comments earlier this week on not being able to run the defense he wanted to here, that's the exact same situation Martz is in here in Chicago.

  4. Ahhh, and it just keeps going downhill. Now we must prepare for the "Get Donovan McNabb" threads, and that's never fun.

Yeah, I was really surprised these threads haven't popped up.

Probably distracted by the Manning speculation.

  5. Mcnabb is going to go the bears and possibly take them to the playoffs. I think that is a pretty good gig. And as someone who has lived in philly and watched every eagles game, mcnabb was really overrated in the national media.

If he goes to Chicago, and the Bears make the playoffs. the Bears took him there. Not the other way around.

He hasn't shown he can take a team anywhere for a while now.

  6. I like Billick, but he is an offensive minded guy. I think we need a defensive minded guy. Peyton will take care of the offense (assuming he's healthy, which I think he will be), we need a solid defensive minded coach

I know what you mean, but I like Billick also.

I always thought he was a leader, and let the coordinators do their jobs.

He always had a very good DC with him.

  7. Mike Ditka would be good as well as Jimmy Johnson.Ditka is alot tougher and thats what we need.

Well, if you need a new downtown restaurant, and to see your head coach on the tube constantly promoting anyone that'll pay him, then Ditka's your guy.

He'd also fit the 'emotional' criteria, if that's another need of yours.

  8. dont try to sound rationale. haha you are right but that's not what fans do. In 15 years we can look back at this and know who was right and wrong. Hopefully tomorrow will shine light on the situation. I'm on the keep peyton side but if he is not healthy and cannot play ever again then i would be open to drafting luck. Till i know otherwise i'll keep my support behind peyton.

I agree. Hopefully tomorrow will shed some light on the situation.

However, that could only mean that he's been cleared to practice.

If he's not cleared to practice, that doesn't mean that he's done, but I'm guessing that's what many will read into it.

  9. Here is my rundown. If Manning is not back next season he will most likely retire. If by some miracle we fail do get Andrew Luck then I wouldn't mind having McRib.

I think that McRib is an improvement over Painter, Collins or any of our other junior high quarterbacks. But what makes you think McRib will come here?

I hear people wnating Andy Reid in Indy, well maybe that's a good enough reason for McRib to play here.

See, now I could go for McRib, but now way on McNabb.

His talent's left him a few years ago. He's dumb as a rock, and no work ethic.

He couldn't run the 2 minute drill better than Rex, and has no idea what'd happen if we ever played an overtime game.

Plus, I'd bet he'd be looking for some undeserved cash.

  10. Thats what a forum is for, is to post there opinions and news if you dont care about these then dont comment. Why dont you just get leave

So, let me get this straight.

You want jskinnz to leave the forum because he voiced his opinion of the topic, and a forum is for voicing opinions. What?

Is the forum for voicing an opinion, but not an opinion of someone else's opinion?

If it's not an opinion then we all agree, and don't need to discuss it.

Everyone's got one, and they all stink. Just to varying degrees based on your point of view.

  11. Not that we will sign him, but Andy Reid would be a huge upgrade for what we currently have in place, but that could be said for nearly any name thrown out there.

Here is some background on Reid:

Gruden was an offensive assistant his first year in Green Bay and coached Wide Receivers the next two years before leaving to be OC in Philly.

    Thanks Fire.

I stand corrected on that issue.

Google is your friend. Google is your friend. Google is your friend.

  12. I expect to hear this alot. I expect to hear them say Manning is happy to tutor Luck and how they will co-exist and Polian saying you can't pass up a sure thing. Why? Draft value. They have to sell a team like the Dolphins that unless they trade the farm, they have zero chance at Luck.

Remember, Polian did the same thing last year. Saying it was time to look for a replacement. Scouting all the QBs. So what happened? There was a huge move for QBs early, which allowed Offensive Tackles to slide. Castanzo slid to us simply because so many teams reached for QBs. I think it was brilliant.

So I fully expect the Colts to pay the hand that drafting Luck and keeping Manning is a done deal. But I honestly think they will trade the pick away for a windfall of picks.

Agreed, though I thought I'd heard after the draft that we would have taken Dalton if he would have been available with our 2nd round pick.

  13. We had those same injuries the 2009 Season, but went to the Superbowl. So if Caldwell can do it in 09 than why can't he do it this season? Peyton is the reason for our success and not Caldwell. I think this season is testament enough for that.

Peyton IS the reason for our success, but not just because he's great, but the whole team was built around him, and that includes the defense. ST are just a byproduct of the players brought in as back ups. ST coaching plays into that as well.

I'm not a Caldwell backer or hater, but not having Peyton, and Peyton being the reason for our success doesn't necessarily mean that Caldwell is a bad coach. They are not necessarily related things.

As time goes on though, I do think Caldwell may be a fish out of water, but I think the demise of this team, this year, is more attributed to the lack of quality in our back ups, and almost exclusively Painter. The TOs, and on-side kick issues I don't care about, when it comes to Caldwell. The halftime adjustments (or lack thereof) do concern me, but even that can be attributed to the lack of a quality (not great, but decent) QB running the offense this year.
