  2. I believe that Ballard is one of the best GM in the NFL.

With that being said isn't Ballard that one on record saying Brissett is a top 20 QB? Now after another season under his belt he did't perform to the level of this at all. Maybe this is where people are trying to come after Ballard for. IMO when people link players to GM's or coach's the players performance outweighs all the positive that GM or Coach has done.

I interpret Paganoish to mean stupid, undisciplined penalties (see Darius Leonard x2, Glowinski x2), multiple turnovers, turnover for a TD, special team gaffes (blocked kick, missed FG, fumbled punt), and a spattering of conservative play-calling combined with going for it on 4th down at the wrong times.

I love Frank, but that game had lots of the Pagano-era staples.  It was ugly and disappointing in every facet.

I don't think OP was trying to compare Reich to Pagano (that would be insane).

Circling back around to this post.

Let me start off by saying that I wasn't comparing Pagano and Reich.  Like mentioned above it was exactly as you stated undisciplined penalties, multiple turnovers and so on.

However I purposely didn't respond to anyone because as I felt at the time I was right. Obviously the rest of the season played out again in my option very Paganoish.  Many people on here wasn't or didn't want to hear it or admit it. Please don't give me the excuses of injuries or the QB retired right before the season because we are passed that.  Lets go Colts and Lets go Coach Reich!!

If it would have been a Chuck Pagano ish game then the steelers would have laid a 50 burger on us. Our starting QB got injured, a blocked kick and Rhodes and Rigo botched a snap screwing adam. I knew we would lose this game but I am very happy we took them all the way to the end with it.

It's not the players... it's waiting 3 quarters to finally keep a LB up near the LOS and have them watch the RB out of the backfield. I would throw that pass everytime too when the back 7 is 20 yards down field. It shouldn't have taken 3 quarters to make that adjustment.

I think the talent is on the roster already. Like you mentioned the scheme never changed until way too late. Its very rare for a LB playing off the LOS to catch up with any great catching RB.

  6. The whole game yesterday seemed very weird from the start. The dumb penalty's that ended up with Pittsburgh points, the pick 6, missed XP, missed 2 pt conversion, missed FG to end game, oh and miss tackles. Not to mention some of the play calling on defense where Samuels looked like a HOF out of the backfield. A group of of us twitter were trying to sum up the game. We all agreed if felt like the good ole days of Chuck Pageno at the helm.

Not looking for backlash but I really hope this isn't a new trend.

I agree and disagree with the complaints about not trading mid round picks for a player before the deadline ( such as SF did for Sanders).

    1.  The Colts are fast approaching the day when only half their draft picks will make the team. The youth and talent already brought in is creating a team with far fewer opportunities for future draftees. So those 4th and 5th rounders won’t be making team automatically like they have been (exception Banner ). This argues for more aggressive use of draft picks in trade opportunities. BUT

    2. The Colts are not there yet. They still have holes and Ballard is committed to using the draft to build the team and fill those holes. AND using the cap space to resign the talent deserving of a second contract.

Since I’m in the camp that believes this team is a year or two  away from being a true contender for the big prize, I think Ballard is right to hold onto those picks for another year.

This offseason, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a younger WR picked up in free agency or via a player for player trade.

And after the next draft, watch Ballard

begin to trade some of those 3rd and 4th round picks to improve the team. He’ll have the luxury to do it then.

You make some great points about draft capital. If Ballard sees the roster as being built the way he intends too then no reason why he shouldn't start to move some picks in the future drafts. With that being said nothing should be traded until he fully believes that they are only 1 player or 2 away.

The Patriots traded Brissett to the Colts so I'm not sure that's true. However, I actually suspect Brissett may grade out as the better quarterback in the end.  Jimmy G is much flashier, but that has become a trap for him in a way, as he has a very bad habit of not giving up on plays when he should.

Both of the two times Jimmy G has gotten hurt, the shoulder in 2016 and the knee last year, it was because he was refusing to give up on a busted play, tried a hero move, and got burned by it.  It's an admirable quality not to give up on plays easily, but not if your body can't handle the consequences.

If he can learn to ground the ball when a play goes sour, he's going to be a superstar.  If he keeps trying to play 1v11 when things start to go wrong, he's going to be out of the league within the next 3 years.

he has a very bad habit of not giving up on plays when he should...... sounds so much like the QB that just retired... :(
