  1. I think having AR going back and forth with 1s and 2s is throwing him off because he can’t build the chemistry and consistency with the players but I also think it’s a good thing because it also gets him reps and show him everything isn’t going to be the same.  In a sense, it’s showing he has to make the throws and plays instead of relying on the talent we have

  2. My personal opinion, I do think JT should get his extension and more money than he current contract.  But here’s where I disagree.  I don’t know the number the RBs think they should deserve, but I would not pay it because the position historically has shown the big money given to RBs after the wear and tear hurts the team.  Maybe what is happening is a good thing for RBs because it shows the NFL needs to fix this problem.  Maybe making the first contract bigger and then making the second contracts heavily incentive based will solve this issue, but I’m no expert in labor relations and contracts.

Regarding his future with the team, I hope we do keep him but if not, let’s get some good value for him.  Whether that’s a high pick or another disgruntled player at a position of need (maybe stephon diggs?)

this team will not need a premiere running back.  Just someone who can get us the yards.  Teams with qbs who can make plays with their legs (ex. Eagles, bears, chiefs, bills) don’t have a running back like JT.  Is that running back on our team right now?  Maybe, maybe not.  But one thing I do know is we don’t need to overpay for a running back during a rebuild.

I think he will have a better year somewhere else.  It will lead to a better contract for him, IMO.

I don’t doubt JT will get a better contract.  I don’t doubt he’ll get more money to play here after all of this.  But I DO doubt that he’s going to get the money him and the other RBs think they’re going to get.  And if he does, it may help that team in the short term but not the long term.

we are not a short term team.  We are not a team that is one piece away from going to the SB and will shell out money to a RB.  Let someone like the lions or Seahawks who think they are a couple pieces away from being a contender and have the money and picks to get him.

  4. JT isn’t going anywhere and if he does it’s for team that will bite give us a high pick for him.

JT does not have the market he’s looking for. Him and Jacobs are both on the trading block so what does that say?  Cook is still unsigned so what does that say?  Saquon after crying signed for $10million.

JT has to understand the market is the market.  You’ll get more money, but not what you’re trying to get.  And if you do get that money, I doubt that team is going to be able to make him a winner.

  5. 1.  Commanders:  I don’t think they’ll have a chance to win their division, but I want to see what Eric B can do with that offense.

    2.  Broncos:  I credit last year to their inept coach.  Let’s see what they can do with a healthy squad and a HOF coach.

    3.  Bears:  I’m interested in Fields development.  They got him some weapons and had a good offseason.  Want to see what he does this year.

I think you have a good point here.

Did Hurts development take off because he was in the second year of the SS system or was it the addition of the 100M WR AJ Brown ?

Tying this back to the JT thread, this is why Championship level teams are spending 25M a year on WRs and running backs can't get paid anymore.

WRs impact a game far more than RBs do in today's modern NFL.

The real question is are Pitt, Pierce, McKenzie ready to step up and help their young QB out along with SS's tailored offense ?

    Only time will tell.

this right here.  I don’t know if I’d call MPJ an alpha receiver.  He is one of the best POSSESSION receivers in the game but a bonafide alpha, idk.  He lacks the speed that most alpha receivers have.  Even though he is very productive, he doesn’t command the same attention other alpha receivers require.  In other words, MPJ doesn’t command a safety and a corner but he requires a very good corner.

I’m hoping that Alec with a qb that can utilize his speed and size will turn him into that alpha.  I would rather see Alec as our WR1 than MPJ because Alec can stretch the field with his 4.4 speed and can put jump most corners with tall frame.  Alec is the wild card among our receivers because he was drafted in the second round and had a first round grade in a deep class.  So hopefully Ballard struck gold with him or we’re going to have to look to FA or the draft for our alpha WR

Are the Indianapolis Colts going to come back this year as a competitive force? Or are we going to look like a joke again? Maybe we are somewhere in the middle. Win one, lose one. What do you think, and why?

nope.  Unless our defensive backs are way better than we thought.  I have no worries about our front 7.  I’m 50/50 on the offense and that mainly depends upon if AR comes along, but those CBs scare me.  Young and inexperienced.  They will be thrown to the fire.  I’m expecting us to be one of the worst pass defenses in the league.  Especially if our front 7 can’t get pressure.

Who said he bet against his teammates?

not saying he should have bet on his own team regardless but I haven’t seen anything concrete that said he bet against the Colts and this betting on his teammates to fail.  He may have bet for them to succeed.

Either way it’s splitting hairs.  At the end of the day you shouldn’t be betting on your own team and by NFL rules any team so I get the Colts letting him go and have no issue with it.

Sorry, I didn’t want see him go but betting against your own teammate?  I get it, have to set the tone.

  9. This will let me know where our org stands for this year.

if they want to compete, they’ll go out and grab a vet corner.  Maybe Marcus peters.  If they’re in the building the phase (which I think they are), they will stand Pat and let the rookies learn through the fire.

as a fan, I’m ok with this.  We get to see what our rookies can do.  This year imo was going to be a wash anyway.  I’m honestly more excited to see Brents and rush out there learning and developing than to miss out on playing time.

  10. I honestly think this could definitely happen.

Our defense is going to be BAD.  We’re very young and inexperienced at corner, our LB core isn’t the best, and we still are not sure about our DEs.

We have a rookie HC, we have a rookie QB who has 13 college starts under his belt.  I feel fine about the rest of our offense but those first 2 are VERY important.

I think our floor is 3 games and our ceiling is 7 games.  Who knows, AR might be way better than advertised and everything gels together.  But to say we’re only going to win 3 games isn’t a crazy thing to say.

Hi @smittywerb how do you like the draft pick?

    LOVE IT!

I don’t know if you remember but Steichen was my second coach on my preferred list I wanted and Richardson was the second qb on my preferred list.  So this off-season has been good to me.

my opinion:  we wanted stroud but the panthers messed that up by trading up.  So Richardson was always plan b.  If we didn’t have Shane as I coach I wouldn’t have liked this pick.  But with Shane and his track record for developing qbs, I LOVE this pick.

I’m not one of the fans who thought we were going to be competitive this year.  I knew we were headed for a mild rebuild but not a full one.  One thing I said is that the colts are one of the best teams to pick in the top 5 of a draft.  I think AR is coming into a good situation.  We don’t need him to have an immediate impact.  Let him develop and soak up everything.  I expect him to be fully ready to play by year 2.  If he was thrown to the fire I think he would be able to handle himself but due to his lack of experience, he would have a bad time eventually.

All in all, I loved the pick and I have a good feeling he’s going to become an elite qb.  Lamar Jackson 2.0 is his ceiling.

rg sucks   we need draft a ol  player  .    O'Cyrus Torrence'

    Pre-Draft Analysis

Torrence, one of the most dominant interior offensive linemen in the country last season, has excellent size and consistently gets movement in the run game. He latches on with his big hands and controls defensive linemen while moving laterally as zone blocker. He doesn't change directions well, but he has good length and a powerful punch. Torrence rarely gives ground as a pass protector.

    his foot

agreed.  If porter isn’t there then we grab Torrence.  I’d honestly be ok with grabbing Torrence and then trading back into the second to grab a CB.  CB is deep and there multiple first round graded cbs left

  13. I love this pick.  Granted, I believe we wanted stroud but once the panthers traded we all knew that wasn’t going to happen.  AR in his raw form fits this offense.

    - him and Taylor in the backfield is going to be a PROBLEM!  A qb and a rb that both run 4.3s-4.4s.  Imagine Lamar Jackson and and JK dobbins but JT who’s bigger and much more physical.

    - he fits well with our weapons and Shane’s vertical philosophy.  MPJ is one of the best possession WRs we have yet to see his deep game because we haven’t had a qb who could throw it deep.  Alec is going to get so many one on one bombs thrown to him!  I can’t wait to see all of the victims he’ll have in the future.  Woods is going to be a matchup nightmare.  Line him up wide and let AR zing it in to that big target.  McKenzie is going to eat, whether we use him as a burner or running drags underneath

Was there REALLY that much difference between Will Levis and AR? I would have rather traded down several times and took Levis, picked up a 1st next year and a few more picks this year, and still gotten that same type of guy.

Of course, to be fair, who knew Levis would fall this far..

I said this in the other thread.  In this draft, if we couldn’t stroud, I wanted AR because I’d rather take a chance on his ceiling vs the other Qbs floors.  That’s the difference.

and obviously the other 31 GMs feel the same way because levis did not get drafted yet.

Nelson had the credentials, even the horrible pick Hooker had credentials to support the pick.  AR has none, its all about ceiling, potential.....and hope.  Its a desperation pick.

it was said many times that this qb draft didn’t have a certified qb.  Meaning a qb that was going to start day one without any issues.  Any qb we selected this draft was going to be a “project pick”.  It’s just that the one we chose has the most uncertainty.  Your rebuttal might be “well why not trade back and go for hooker or Bennett?”.  Because Shane and Ballard both thought the potential of AR was too good to pass up on compared to the other qbs who were left (and I agree).  No way we were going to NOT pick a qb at 4 unless Young, AR, and Stroud was gone.  Shane was brought in to develop a qb, not coach an established one.  Everything this off-season regarding the offense has pointed to developing something new.

do you trust Shane and co to develop AR?  If so, then you’ll look back and love this pick.  If not, I can see why you feel the way you do.

I would rather have Fields who doesn't suck versus a rookie who very well could suck and we start over again.  Fields is young and a proven franchise quarterback.  Our rebuild will be completed much faster with Fields.  If the Bears are crazy enough to trade him we should be all over that opportunity.

Once again, his level of play isn’t the problem, money is.  It’s why the bears are thinking about trading him.  If he was THAT good then why are the bears thinking about trading him?  If we trade for him, pay him, and then we can’t grab those players we want to grab because we’re devoting $35-$45mill to a qb after 2 years, the board will be complaining again about how we aren’t participating in free agency.

We have to look at it from both sides of the coin.  I think people are getting caught up in seeing a shiny new young qb when we still have holes to fill.  Yeah, we’ve had underperforming QB play for the past 2 years but this isn’t a QB away.  The jets are a qb away.  They have young quality CHEAP talent at the positions of need so getting an expensive qb won’t hurt them.  Us getting an EXPENSIVE qb (in 2 years) while needing more EXPENSIVE talent at positions of need (LT, DE, WR) is going to hurt us when it comes to cap.  Now if we can hit in the draft or FA at those positions then yes, I’m all for getting fields.  But the reality is we haven’t.  Only difference with fields is that we would have our QB without the surrounding talent.

I think it’s just safer to get that talent first while having a cheap qb.  That has been the model for the past 5-10 years.  We go with fields, we’re giving our front office a 2 year time table to get it done.  This team is maybe 3-5 years away from being a Super Bowl contender.  1-2 if everything goes right.

Good points. Any rookie is probably going to take a couple years to get acclimated to the NFL as well. The thinking is to get Fields now and see if you can bypass the 2-years of development you will likely face with a rookie. Yes you will have to pay Fields sooner if he hits, but if the QB you draft doesn't pan out after the first 2-3 years, then you will likely start the QB process all over again in this case as well.

if this roster was in a win now mode then I’d be all for this, but we’re not.  We still have to spend some money to get there.  We have to sign one or two studs for pass rushing.  We have to sign our big name WR to pair with our new QB.  We’re hoping Raimann is our future LT and if not, we have to spend money there too.  That’s going to be hard to do in one year so realistically we’d have one year to make that happen before paying fields vs three with our new qb

And guess what, if our new qb sucks we’ll be drafting high again anyway and have another chance at getting our qb.

  18. No.  Not because I don’t think fields isn’t good, it’s because he’s about to get paid in 2 years.  We need to take advantage of this opportunity of having a formidable (and possibly good) qb on his rookie deal.  That will allow us to keep building HOPEFULLY spend some money to get our future qb some help.

it’s the same reason why the bears are thinking about moving on from him.  It has nothing to do with his abilities.

yeah, Madden with Peyton was a cheat code.  Especially with Dallas Clark.  I would just line him up out side and he would cook any linebacker not named Pat Willis lol
