Im pretty sure the calendar says March  15 and not April 15.    I love posts that talk about our wrong or bad approach after one day of free agency.    One.    ONE!!

I looked over on NFL.com and the Colts are one of 8 teams that pretty much sat out the first day of free agency.   We are not alone.   It’s not like Chris Ballard is doing one thing and the other 31 teams are doing something else.

There will be plenty of time to complain in the days and weeks to come.   But after one day?   Really?    Come on…..

I get what you saying and I agree.  We will see.  I don’t expect us to splurge and I wouldn’t want us to.  But we will see…how many years has it been that we’ve had the most or top 5 cap space?  Let’s see if it changes.

I know luck retiring set this team back. But Ballard teams keep getting worse. They aren’t even improving in other areas.

my main beef with him is that he isn’t aggressive enough.  Idk if he’s being aggressive or not but the lack of talent at key positions shows.  Other teams have those same key positions and the teams that compete are able to fill them mostly while we seem to not.  I think his drafting has been good.  He’s done a solid job of building a foundation and performing what I like to call a “moving rebuild”.  But his lack of success in FA is hampering this team.  I said this in another thread.  It’s ok to build through the draft but we can’t solely depend on it.  We have to use FA to fill the rest of our holes and make up for the misses in the draft.  When we don’t hit in the draft or FA, it hurts the team that much more.

You act like they may have wanted Reddick.

I highly doubt they had ANY interest at $12M.
Ballard has TWO guys to pay for on the Hall of Fame track, 7 Pro Bowlers in all NOW, Kelly and Smith earning big money, Buckner with a Monster contract, WHAT IN THE _____ are you thinking?
Obviously you can't put two and two together.

Jesus I just used it as an example.  I don’t know if we wanted him or not.  There aren’t any reports even linking him to us.  Just because I didn’t outright say it.  I literally said “for example” and used it as a comparison.  What is your problem?

and then I even mentioned it was something I think we could’ve which means it was my personal opinion and not something that was actually happening.

    calm down

I agree....but when you don't really participate in FA spending you never win those deals for a guy like Reddick. There has to be some happy medium right? Maybe overpay a little bit? Ballard has always approached FA looking for deals on the cheap.....what results has this produced?

I agree with that also and is my main knock against him.  That’s why I used that reddick as an example.

I am not disagreeing its an overpay...but at what point do the Colts become bystanders in this entire process? The good news is that Chester Rogers is a FA this year, If Ballard is willing to get crazy we can probably steal him back from the Titans.

theres a difference between being a bystander and pulling out of negotiations.  For example, I think we could’ve went after reddick by giving him more than what the eagles offered.  3/$45 with $30 mill guaranteed.  We could’ve offered more there.  But $21 mill for a receiver who was a second (maybe third option) on his team, no.  Overpay, but overpay without giving out ridiculous contracts.

and not only did they overpay, they screwed the WR market.  Now receivers are going to look at him and say if that’s what HE got then I want no less.

We say that every year and the prices keep going up. The first problem with the current strategy of CB is that we never add any impact players via FA. The second problem is those players go to our AFC competitors. Guess who are the finalists for Robinson? Kansas City and Cleveland. Cleveland is loading up....the Colts are imploding! Its not hard to predict how this is going to turn out.

i agree but you don’t give that money to THAT quality of receiver.  I don’t mind overpaying for talent that’s worth it.  But Kirk getting paid that much is a HUGE overpay.  This is one of the reasons why prices go up.

now if he doesn’t play up to $21 mill standards, we would be the first people to want the GM gone.

this is why Byron wanted Baalke GONE lol

For Frank Reich’s system a quick release, just hitting the open guy and taking the layups for YAC occasionally is all that’s needed because we don’t feature a true No.1

Jimmy G fits it to a tee.

don’t say that, Reich and Wentz lovers will tell you it’s because we have a bad ol and need the best.

mind you, most of us have been complaining about wentz not hitting those layups and Reich not using what we have to do so
