I placed another bet on MI. Went against the spread: North Carolina is favored by 4 points. I'm thinking the game could be closer than that, hoping that it's a good one.

How did I get interested in March Madness? I never cared about this before, so no idea why I changed now. I guess I just like the risk (though small) of betting. I can afford to lose, so never bet any high amount.

the run unc had to put them up 4 after down what was think 12 points was the difference. They pulled away and kept the Spartans at arms length the rest of the way. There have been some dang good games. I always like this time of year, and then it’s crickets until football, for me anyways.

In all honesty how many resets does a guy get? Has Ballard even earned it and based on what? As long as Jim Irsay is satisfied with the mediocrity that Ballard brings he'll be safe but at some point those results won't be good enough. You are one of the main ones that comment on his lack of a competent qbs after Luck's departure like he played no part of the long list of washed or downright awful qbs including the ones he drafted in Eason and Ehlinger prior to Richardson. Bring up his factual record or accomplishments while at the helm and receive snide remarks but guess what MAYBE if Ballard changes some his approach like how he deals with free agency or his tendency to mostly trade back to gain more later rd picks to use on guys with high RAS scores instead of moving up trying to snag an upper tier type of player who produced at a high level against top competition.

With that being said I'll be the first to applaud him if the team starts winning on a consistent basis that sees a divion title or two, a few playoff runs and maybe a shot at a SB. For a guy that wants to build mostly through the draft and from inside out I'm not seeing enough special or elite in 7 plus years especially at the premium positions. HOF gm Bill Polian also built through the draft but the difference was that he hit on some HOFs or fringe type guys. His record in Buffalo and Indy reflected that too with a few SB appearances to match.

If that's the case then Ballard should surround Richardson with multiple offensive weapons like the Titans have done with Levis because they will find out real soon if Will is the man or not. Stroud has options and so does Lawrence. Every year Ballard is waiting according to some on this board to the tune of being under .500 and accomplishing absolutely nothing but I'm starting to see the OVERALL gameplan now.... Plod along for another decade or so and wait for everyone else to decline.

Some laughed at John Lynch when he became a gm around the same time as Ballard but guess what he's ran circles around the "polished" talking Ballard who couldn't even take advantage of a formerly weak AFC south. The Niners haven't won a SB but they've lost two close ones while we continue to wait as Ballard uses the 80's blueprint to build a team which hasn't worked so far after years of wash, rinse, repeat.

    you are a broken record.

I don’t think it’s a sure thing Anthony is going to come out and have rookie struggles. He sat and got to learn a lot last year. He doesn’t seem to make bad decisions and throw int.  I think we need to put to bed that he only played 13 college games so he will struggle. He clearly didn’t even in the small sample. Maybe a little in the first half against rams. I will even admit I was totally wrong about him not being ready.

If anything expectations were increased because of what the organization saw, even though I think they are still tempered. Ballard said they were surprised by some things they saw that they thought would take time to develop.

I think we saw enough last year to at least know Richardson belongs in the NFL.

I think we all saw enough to know if he can stay healthy (and I know it’s a big if) he is undoubtedly going to make big plays. That’s why he was brought here. He can win in this league, and especially with Steichen. It’s not going to come overnight, so expectations are far more tempered behind the doors at 56th street than they are on this forum.

I think a lot of us feel we’ll take a slight step back this season with Anthony developing. I’d say with how calm the front office is they feel the same way. The real expectations are set for 2025.

and on… I’ve said it before on here, it’s not a short term mindset anymore. They felt they were close in 2020-2021, but they reset the clock after 2022. I think they are hopeful that the current vets that were just extended helps them win now and for the next 3 years, but they are resetting expectations for a longterm with a new franchise qb.

Nope.  3 wins he may get fired,  7 he will absolutely be back if AR looks competent

something would be seriously wrong with 3 wins. That’s utter meltdown. Team’s floor is 7 wins, in my opinion. I think we easily split series (or go 2-4) with our division opponents, steal a few games we aren’t expected to win, and win more than not at home. I say that with or without Richardson.

Only winning 7 or 8 games is a step back from last season. Yes he would be gone.

I don’t think so. I think he’s got minimum two years. If Anthony is healthy and shows he is progressing (even with struggles at times, or not being an immediate winner), they will continue the same path into 2025. Go watch the next pick from last year and tell me that’s a front office/coaching staff that is worried about their future. They believe they are building an environment to develop Anthony Richardson. The clock was reset for Ballard. 3 year deals across the board is not ironic. It ties the current veterans to AR’s rookie deal. Unless it’s just an utter meltdown in ‘24 or ‘25 and it’s obvious Richardson is not the guy, there’s no reason to assume that Ballard and company are not safe through the 2025 season and into 2026, playoffs or not. Everyone on here saying otherwise is just wishful thinking on their part.

    No doubt for me.

What would give you the impression that there is “no doubt” in your mind that Ballard will be fired if they don’t make the playoffs in 2024. You think that if they are as close with a healthy Richardson as they were to a division title in 2023, that Irsay will want to blow it up?

Telling someone they have mental issues and need to go get a dog is a new low on this forum.

    it’s pretty low.

I pick on you, but I hope you know it’s not mean spirited. Everyone has enough mental issues to justify getting a dog… mine has kept me grounded for nearly a decade.

I agree. It’s still early and we should see how it plays out

I really hope that Ballard goes best available WR at 15.

Dallas Turner won't make it past the Falcons since they signed Cousins one of my favorite QBs. @NFLfan

Ballard says we need to be more explosive and I can't see how signing a cb at 15 makes us more explosive

he said we need more explosiveness on offense and to limit explosive plays on defense… that would mean defensive backs

Richardson is coming off a season of injury. He had to play smarter. You think asking him to be Superman is going to help him reduce the injury risk?

I don't think anything changes with what he's asked of. Protect himself better, make plays, score points. It's not a hard concept. If our offense can run the ball well with #5 and 28, and Richardson can deliver the ball and make plays with his arm, the defense won't be asked as much either. It can go both ways. Except this time, we add back in our starting corner (and yes, he's coming off an achilles tear- i understand the concern as I am as well), have several young guys in the secondary with another offseason to develop, possibly add a stud in the draft that CAN be an immediate playmaker, plenty of time to add a vet or two...

I think you are over-reacting big time. But no one here is surprised by that.
