We don't know this though. AR may be worse than Minshew win-wise. So may Flacco. We may not get 9 wins with either of them without upgrading the team. That is an assumption. AR is still a raw rookie by all accounts, and Flacco was on a much better Browns team last year and is a year older now.

So you think Minshew won us games ? lol… Is that an assumption too? If we are worse off win wise, it will not be because minshew isn’t on the roster…

I wasn’t talking about the draft.  I said right now three weeks into the new year we have done zilch except run it back with our own players.  Which I am extremely happy about by the way.  But no new veteran starters to help this team.  I’m happy we got an impact player in the 3rd rd.  Better than nothing.

but the season doesn’t start for months, so what is the point in saying we are running it back? Right this minute? Lol

It’s the 3rd week of FA and we have not added one new starter to the team.  We actually might be down one if Blackmon doesn’t return.  Right now that pretty much satisfies the definition of running it back with what you have.

it isn’t though. Because the most important position on the field will be upgraded (whether AR or Joey Flacco is under center) and I think it could be understating things.

and- a big and at that- we have a draft upcoming, if you didn’t know. We’ve had some good fortune with impact from players in their rookie years. Downs last year especially.

In some ways I agree with this

We have LESS in the safety group than last year, as of today

We did gain depth at DL backup

FA isnt done yet of course and we havent drafted yet

We have less currently. But Chloe is under the assumption (or at least seems to be) that what we have is what we get. Lol. There is no way this safety group is what we are going to get. No chance.

This started because sneed went to the titans...  There is a narrative here that the team and Ballard are waiting to see what we have at qb before spending big on outside free agents.

I think some of you forgot what we were even talking about.  The titans have a more experienced qb who didnt get hurt every game so they are making moves.

I brought this up because there was a lot of talk about AR and Levis here last year.  I guess some people didnt like me bringing that up but the two were compared a lot.

I don't think that is the narrative. It certainly isn't for me. I just don't think Ballard likes to spend on guys outside the organization. And his reasoning makes sense. When you draft guys, you have a good feel for them. But you don't truly know what kind of worker, teammate, etc. you are getting. That's why it's less risk focusing on the draft. You get them for a cheaper contract. When you dish big contracts out, you better know what kind of guy you are giving them to. If they come in, flaunt their money and aren't good teammates/hard workers, then you are going to create problems in the organization. This is why he rewarded Pittman, Stewart, Moore, Franklin, etc. Because they have established themselves as leaders in the club and have respect. Not one player in the locker room is going to be upset that those guys earned big money. It could be entirely different with a newcomer, no matter the talent.

If GMs and Owners listened to the fans coaches and players would be let go on a yearly, possibly game by game basis.

A great deal of this board has never managed anything in their lives, and it's blatantly obvious. You don't make rash decisions on personnel in any form of business. Especially if you know you cannot easily replace their productivity.

@ColtStrong2013 summed it up pretty well already. I remember multiple games last season where the offense couldn't move the ball at all and were consistently punting from deep in our own territory, giving the other team fantastic field position. Couple that with Minshew's turnovers that gave the other team amazing field position and the fact that the defense was exhausted from the constant 3 & outs, and you get a defense that gives up a lot of points.

I've been on good defenses whose offenses consistently stalled. It's disheartening. A good defense can give up a lot of points in lopsided games that make it seem like they weren't good at all. When in reality, had the offense scored even just a time or two more, the game might have changed entirely. I'm talking 40 to 7 games. A long drive or two could make that a competitive 20 to 28 game coming down stretch late in a game. In the NFL, you have to consistently put up points.

Ballard stated we needed more explosiveness on offense and to limit explosiveness on defense. The fact that neither of those have been addressed tells me it's not that he hasn't tried or doesn't expect to at all. Just means the first few waves of free agency didn't result in it. It's still very early...

Shouldn't be that hard for you to admit i was right over him being more experienced.

He showed he can play in the league without getting hurt every game, AR didnt.

It is, because i don't think it's significant to say the Titans are in a better position to make big moves because he is more further along than AR. It's not that significant.

Highlight on every game. Meaning he didn't have a season ending injury. He still was knocked out of games, just like he was in college when he hurt his big toe...

He is older and has played a lot more games.  That IS being further along, its experience.

He showed he can play in the league without getting hurt every game.  He is probably a better passer overall too

older does not equate to experience. He had one extra season than AR did in college. He didn’t prove much during it. He has a full 5 games more in the nfl. That’s hardly being an experienced qb.

    “probably”…

This is a Ballard thread. If you think he is doing a good job then just don’t read this thread.

What are you a cop? Are you the head of the censorship bureau on this forum? This is a colts offseason/ballard grievance merger. If I want to read opposing viewpoints and comment on them, I think I am entitled to do so.

Does depending on a guy who has injury history clear back to college and a guy with a torn Achilles sound smart to you?

Does waiting until the draft before throwing a fit on here ever cross your mind as smart?

    yes.

They are doing what a lot of people have been talking about here.  Waiting to see something from their qb before making moves.  They also spent on a WR

He is further along, it shouldn't be that hard for you to admit this.  I actually dont like WL myself, he annoys me.  Still further along

in what aspect? That he played 5 more games and didn’t have surgery? He still had injuries… he still scored 2 touchdowns more than AR with 5 extra games. He is not further along… He’s not better…

they spent money on a receiver because they desperately needed to. Their former GM gave their best player away, and they were walking away from the bulk of their offense in D Henry.

Richardson on IR has nothing to do with this team being 30th in the league in points allowed.  Having blind faith in a corner who was united in college and came into the nfl injured. A guy who won’t be ready who was undrafted and a 7th round pick. Of let’s not forget Baker is still on the team.

sure it does. You have to consistently move the ball to keep defenses from scoring. It wasn’t ironic that they were directly correlated last year. When we moved the ball well, teams didn’t score as much. When minshew couldn’t do anything, we got steamrolled.

and again- it’s a month away from the draft (that has good corners available) and you are acting like we are ready to roll this team out tomorrow.

I said he is further along, not they.  And he is

you implied they were in better position to make moves like this because their qb is further along… which means, you think they are further along and thus more willing to make these moves.

and I dispute that entirely. Because he’s not better than Richardson, and he showed that in what little he played last season too…

If Ballard is failing this bad with a rookie context just wait until he has to pay him. I can leafy see a lot of contracts he paid the last couple weeks having to be dumped because this team stays mediocre.

tell us more about him failing with a top 5 rookie qb that was on IR. A play from the division? Holy cow- what a massive failure. I can’t leafy understand anything you just wrote.

Is Sneed that good? If so, it was a good trade. The Titans gave up nothing. I wonder why Sneed did not have other suitors if he is that good.

I cannot believe how upset everyone is about not trading for him.

I really wanted him. And then I saw some of his injury concerns, and I wanted him less. I think he can be a good player for the titans, just I think he could have for us. But this move is not without risk…

Anyone want to revisit the Richardson and Levis debate??  Didnt think so lol

He is older and further along, they are more willing to make this move.  On the other hand i dont want to watch the team get scored on all day this year no matter who the qb is

yes… We saw small glimpse of Richardson and I will still take him all day and everyday over Mayonnaise Levis.

they aren’t “further along,” they had a major change in structure of the franchise and are willing to make big moves.

I get not wanting to pay an aging pass rusher a big contract

I get not wanting to pay lot of guarantee money to a cornerback with injury history

What I don’t get is year in and year out putting so much pressure on the draft and these young 21-23 year olds to succeed.

I’m not sure that’s where the pressure is this year… It’s now on vets that were retained on big contracts and guys that have a year or two under their belts. I think this is a big year for the system. Hope it pays off. Draft should be a supplemental, picking up the most talent we can that can impact and filling some needs. Of course there are holes, everyone has them. They are putting pressure on AR, JT, Pitt and co to cover those up… We’ll see what they do in the next month to shore up the secondary…

Yes. I saw it coming. Did not like his approach as it seemed like he was attempting to build a team from the late 80's early 90's. I have been on record many times and took a lot of beef over my take on his approach.

what else did you see with your crystal ball? Dropping the ball on a division title in 2023?
