I might bet on MI again. They play North Carolina, so that could be interesting. Not sure how long MI will stay in the tournament.

I thought about Kentucky, now I'm glad I decided not to bet on them.

I never count Izzo’s teams out in the tournament. They play a very frustrating style that keeps them in ball games, and seem to always have a player or two that can score when needed. They will give North Carolina fits tomorrow.

I’m glad to see the one and done era of Kentucky faltering.

So you saying his daughters are part blame for the colts not winning??? haha

lol. Hardly. I’ve been vocal enough on this forum that not having consistent qb play is the difference with this team…

and by consistent I mean both on the field and just having the same qb, which we have not since Ryan Grigson was general manager. Think about that… 2016- Luck, 2017-no luck, 2018- luck, 2019- brisset, 2020- rivers, 2021- Wentz, 2022- Ryan, 2023- AR/Minshew… this will be the first year since 2016 that the same qb starts consecutive season openers. That’s why we haven’t won consistently…

    We don’t know that.

Yes we do. They literally have represented the team at various meetings. All 3 are vice-chair and co-owners of the team. Carli was reportedly very involved in the interview process and subsequent hiring of Steichen.

you are just making stuff up to try fit your narrative at this point… We don’t know that Jim has even been involved since December. That is more believable than his daughters (especially Carli who is on the sideline every game with a headset on) don’t have any influence. That’s hilarious to assume that the ones that are in the process of taking the team over, and possibly sooner than later, are not involved in decision-making. Like, what? Have you been involved in a succession plan? They are Jim’s legacy…

Curious, why does a GM let these great players leave if they were so great or were not replaceable?   Seems like he's drafting good/great players at positions that can more easily be found in a the draft.  Finding the lower hanging fruit and reaping genius like compliments...at least in the past.

They let Okereke go because they had Franklin as a much cheaper replacement... But the big reason was because of the money that was tied up in Leonard, who was Andrew Luck on defense. Nothing but lingering injuries and staring down an early retirement.

I’m saying with a different owner there’s a good chance of better results. Colts play in a weak division for the past several years and not much to show for it. Ballard just giving more money to their own players year after year has not been a formula for success either. He better score big on this years draft or Jim should show him the door.

I don’t think you have paid attention to the results of the new owners of the league. Not good, at all. And some of the wealthiest ones at that. The Walton’s put an entire team together in Denver and it’s been nothing less than a disaster. David tepper in Carolina is the worst owner in the league, but has about as much as anyone. Washington will always be a disaster.

I think you are forgetting the - attractive place to live.  Miami, San Diego and others do have an advantage over the Colts.

I agree but if the money is comparable, i think a young player would choose location over Indy.

I don’t think location matters at all. They are on the road for a good chunk of 8-9 plus weeks of a half a year season and can live anywhere for the other half, unless they have families to keep in schools. Indianapolis has good school corps surrounding the city, so players live in zionsville, fishers, etc. The cost of living in Indianapolis versus elsewhere (on the same salary) isn’t small. If you own a $2 million property in Indiana, it would be significantly more in Florida, California, etc. Not just in principal but with taxes and insurance as well. Indiana is a very low key state for players to bank a lot of what they earn if they choose. I think of Carson Palmer a lot when he was in Cincy (very similar to Indy) and he wanted traded- they refused and he said ok, I’ll retire… put his modest price home for sale and leaked that he had something like $80 million in the bank/invested. They traded him pretty quickly not wanting to call his bluff.

  7. Watching the two clips the organization has shared- the in-house free agents re-signed gathering at the complex together and now the Steichen clips- gives me great hope for the franchise. You can see this plan coming into fruition. Develop a young qb by keeping the together veterans that fans and players love (now on a mission with a sour taste in their mouth) and continuing to focus on bringing talent in through the draft/developing the young guys. Steichen is the right guy for this job. There's more to winning in the Colts organization. Having a family feel (aside from the no daycare) is a huge part of it. It's not owned by the Waltons or corporate interests. It's owned by a family that are all involved. Of course they are going to do things differently than others in the league. I'm not sure why some on this forum can't see or understand that.

Sometimes I wonder if this guy actually has any personality at all. Seeing this picture was good.

He has a ton of personality, in my opinion. He’s straight fire with football. His voice cracking during his introductory press conference told me everything to know about him.

Frank Reich, Ryan Grigson, Jim Caldwell… not much personality with those guys.

Absolutely I wanted them in the tournament so bad after they put up 90 on us on Friday.. I was like, they need to cause havoc on the tourney .

I was wondering maybe they didn't like the big east this year. Providence also got shafted

they blamed the 4 or 5 small conference schools that got auto bids from winning their conference tournaments. Stole spots

I mean honestly, I'd probably bet my life savings that the Colts will never make or win a SB with Ballard as our GM. If someone stopped being a fan until we got a new GM, I don't think they'd miss anything special.

I mean- considering we had Peyton manning for 14 seasons and won 1, that would probably be a reasonable bet…

You do know that Destin has broke things first in the past.  People need to lay off of Destin.  He does a good job.  I don't doubt for a minute that he was given information that was true.  However, Jim Irsay being able to put all of this guaranteed money into escrow probably was the real hold up.  Ballard is never going to tell you that publicly.

You do know it’s just a joke right… I’m not on twitter, I don’t follow the guy or any guys. I see stuff that is posted on here and engage, but always take reports with a grain of salt. You never have a guy on the roster until the contract is signed and the trade is official.

There is a lot Ballard isn’t going to say publicly. His ability to manipulate q and a’s to do exactly that is a strength. “Look- I like Destin… he just needs more time in the reporting field.” - Chris Ballard probably

That is the approach to building a team that I prefer. I never saw Grigson as following that approach. He seemed to sign many free agents that did not work. But Ballard does follow that approach, almost to a fault.

because Grigson couldn’t draft after the layup he had with Andrew Luck, and hitting on T.Y Hilton…

I’ve been thinking corner all along at 15.  Terion Arnold is my choice.

it makes sense to go defense, in my opinion. Whether pass rusher or corner. Top of the board. Receiver class is strong, and we have opportunities to add a good player to the room on day 2. But if the best player is a cornerback- then that should be who we choose. Perhaps they look at KC and feel they are positioned to develop the same corners they have in Snead/mcduffie with brents/arnold or someone else.

Who are the most Ballard like corners this draft?

They still have (3) players not updated on their cap.

Nick Folk, Nick Westbrook Ikina, Saahdiq Charles.

They also only have 62 players under contract.

    Colts have 73 for instance.
