I think it’s important to recognise we’re putting forth wide generalisations when you rank positions like this. Don’t really disagree with your ranking but I think if you get a transcendent talent all bets can be off.

Take TEs, on the whole ranked quite low, but if another Gronk is there you’re not going to pass it up. These are the players who can change how the game is played and then have the knock on effect of shifting perceptions of positional value. I guess the reverse is RBs where we’ve seen teams avoid investing too much because of the longetivity concerns and cases of “low talent” RBs providing good production.

    This.

While i think we would have taken Chubb if he fell to 6, Nelson was at the top of the board in terms of positional talent. A once in a generation lineman, right there dangling for us to snag and bolster what has been a nightmare for Andrew Luck and this Colts franchise. I thought it was a nobrainer then, and until something drastic changes, that won't change.

I believe in positional value. But i believe scheme changes things. I believe we looked at Frank Reich's scheme and how he wanted to build an offensive line similar to the Eagles. In this draft, it started with Q and led to Braden Smith. Next draft might lead to a nice right tackle, unless Smith consistently proves it is his...

I think regardless of where we are picking next draft, Ballard is going to be searching to acquire more picks, and he's going to be looking to put talent in the trenches. It just happens to be a very deep defensive front draft. Which is great!

  2. Here's the deal on next year's offseason. We aren't going to go hog wild in FA, but will find some starting caliber players to shore up some of these weak spots.

The draft however, has the potential to be Ballard's best... possibly ever going forward, assuming a nice healthy career here.

Currently ranked (obviously subject to much debate and great change from now until April), 10 of the top 13 ranked likely draft picks are defensive players. It will be defense heavy. The tackle situation is promising in the draft, but the #1 tackle is ranked 15 currently. Barring the Colts going on a winning streak, i don't forsee us picking outside of 10... and at the moment feel like inside of 3 is more likely. If Ballard can acquire picks between now and then, you can bet he is putting his money there. 10 draft picks this year and we might see a lot more next. Currently projected with 9 (2nd round jets pick and 4th round compensatory).

1st round- defensive lineman. A lot of big names going to be at the top at tackle, end and edge.

2nd round- Tackle and defensive back

3rd round- value receiver (Miles Boykin from Notre Dame could be great value in day 2 next year...)

with the first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft the Indianapolis Colts select…..

And with the 3rd pick of the 2019 draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Nick Bosa... along with a boat load of picks for trading down 2 positions to the QB desperate Giants.

    1st round- 3rd

    2nd round- 33, 35 (Giants), 39 (jets)

    3rd round - 65, 67 (Giants)

Not at all.    We need a number 2 wr.  A few more play makers on d and a right tackle.

And we will find a #2 this next offseason. Whether that is in FA, the draft, or in Deon Cain, we will find one this next season.

Right tackle will be addressed, and next year's draft is going to be loaded with defensive playmakers. At this rate of losing, we will be in prime position to acquire more picks (three top 50 picks- possibly top 40 already) and draft some serious talent on defense.

I am seeing all i need to see to be content with the plan going forward. A young defense that is exceeding expectations and being put in bad spots because of the offense. An offensive line that is keeping our qb upright and even untouched. Our franchise qb that is proving everyone wrong. A lot of young talent and speed on offense. A coaching staff that is innovative and hungry.

We will obviously address all of this again in 11 weeks, but right now, things aren't even remotely close to being as bad as the media and folks on this forum are making it out to be.

  5. I was coming on to post this very topic. Karl Jospeh is intriguing to me as well as we are thin at safety with Farley out and relying on an unstable Geathers to stay on the field.

I like Amari Cooper. I feel like he's been neglected offensively. 1 target last week is unacceptable. If they are shopping him, they aren't doing themselves any favors not giving Cooper opportunities to showcase what a potential trading partner would be getting. Ballard is most likely on the phone asking their price...

Umm the Colts D stopped the Pats twice this game.  Gronk and Hogan handed them easy turnovers and Edelman dropped a pass when he was wide open.  So you didn’t “force”Brady do anything.

That said, with all the D injuries even DURING the game there was no way the Colts D could do much stop the Patriots!  The Colts Ohad way way to many dropped passes. (Without then it’s probably a shoot out)

And both times, there was good pressure that forced him to throw the ball away, and good coverage underneath so he couldn't dink and dunk us to death. We allowed Brady to come out early and not even have to think about throwing deep. 1.4 second average release on that opening drive. Impossible to play when you give him exactly what he wants.

Then I would say that your expectations were not low.

New England's team may not be as talented as they have been, but they are still much more talented than the Colts.  The Colts do make too many errors, dropped passes, fumbles, etc.  However, that is more than likely a by product of not having enough talent yet.  Also, only having 44 players dress and then losing 3 more during the game is not a recipe for success when your talent level is already below that of your opponent.

My expectations for guys that make the money these guys (even our young inexperienced ones) are making is pretty straight forward. I've been around highschoolers that don't drop the ball at the rate these guys do. Chester Rogers with touchdown drops in consecutive weeks. Ebron finished strong but still drops easy dimes with no one around. Inexcusable, regardless of the "talent" level. Waiting patiently for Fountain to get his chance.

    Really, what were you expecting?

To not drop the ball as often...

To force Brady to throw deep early and often... and pressure him more which he hates. (Notice, when we did these things, the defense had success)

To not get down 18 points at halftime to a New England team that isn't near as talented as in years past.

I expected to lose, and i am glad they fought back and at least made it somewhat respectable... but we could have made this a game tonight, and we shot ourselves in the foot time after time.

Has their ever been a more injured team in Colts history?  Can someone do some research?  :( I'm sure they're by far the most injured team in the NFL.  Well, especially as it stands during this game.

Most of the injuries will play next game so is it that big of a deal?

We are using this game as a bye aeek. It's obvious. Play with 44, hope we can be somewhat respectable. Get the next 10 days to recoup and move on.

Sad to play that way. But wouldn't be a bad strategy if we weren't 1-3. I love starting 1-4.
