  1. Only when their running game shows up. When it does - look out.

Otherwise, in spite of their secondary and loss last night, I'd say it's the Patriots. They have a lot of #1 to top 5 players in the league at numerous positions. For the Patriots, the flood of pros far outweigh the one con.

    #1-3 QB Brady

    #1 TE Gronk

    #3 TE Hernandez

    #1 Slot WR Welker

The O-line is the best in football.

Also on offense Woodhead, Lloyd, and Ridley when he doesn't fumble are all solid.

    #1-3 DL Wilfork,

Mayo, Slater and pretty much the rest of entire defensive front is solid.

Aquib Talib (sp)? isn't bad out in the secondary, but the rest is.

Pats secondary is a big concern, which makes them less complete than the Broncos. They don't have a legit No.1 WR as well. Sunday night they got exposed on all these weaknesses.

  2. "Could" is the keyword, obviously. Ultimately, it boils down to who comes out of the NFC even if Peyton gets out of the AFC because if you put the Pats or Broncos vs Seahawks or some other scrappy team, there is no guarantee the AFC is going to come out on top 7 times out of 10. In a one game elimination, anything goes.

There are a LOT of scrappy teams in the NFC, from top to bottom.

I agree with you that anything could happen in a one game elimination. In this salery cap era any team has play makers and problems. It is almost impossible to have a team dominating on every aspect of the game.

NFC has won the last 3 SBs and it has been a better conference in recent years. This year will be just as difficult for AFC to win.

  3. Looks like one more win Colts lock a wildcard spot. The @KC game looks very much winnable on paper, but Colts are not very reliable on the road, and KC is never a nice place to play in. With a chance to upset a playoff team, Chiefs could also bring their best efforts.

Texans could rest their starters in the last game in Indy, as they win the tie-break against Broncos. That game looks like a better chance to get the win.

  4. My primary disagreement with your OP may be "why stop at two?" Five-six sounds a lot better.  :P

I'd love to have more since I have Manning on many of my fantasy teams. But I understand he is not Tom Brady who keeps throwing deep with a 3TD lead.

Broncos running games has always been stout. Remeber last year they carried Tebow into the playoff with the running game and the D. McGahee is a better overall RB but he fumbles a lot. Moreno is more explosive but he has not managed the entire pass protection thing. They will need to improve on this as well as a kinda rusty redzone offense.

  5. I agree with you 100% about the plays that make him hold the ball too long. Our OL doesn't give you that option. He needs to get rid of the ball quickly or roll out. I am surprised he isn't hurt after all those hits.

With the team always falling behind I understand why they want to take chance to go deep. It is not as easy as it looks to play the ball-controling passing game when Manning was here.

  6. It was sweet to see Manning's team get a huge win and he "only" threw for around 220 yards.

This is not the situation of SF with Alex Smith or Texans with Matt Shaub, in which the team is decent and the QB can only throw for 220 yds and a couple of TDs. When needed he is still Peyton Manning and can have 4 TDs in less than 30min. The Broncos are the most complete team in NFL now.

  7. This is the first time in half a decade I can relax when watching Manning's games - In his days with Colts it always required him to carry the team all the way to the last minute, even against very mediocre teams. He never had more than 3 seconds to release the ball and his special team or defense kept giving up big plays. When he was with Colts, 3-4 TDs were always needed to win by single digit. Now he is throwing 1-2 TDs a game and still managing to hand the ball to the RBs starting late of 3rd qtr.

The last time Manning was not required to carry the team by his own - 2006 playoffs, when he had some defense and a bit of running games. I could see his stats decline but add 2 more SB rings by the end of his career.

  8. The only thing this tells is that the Colts team is depleted at talents. The overall talent level has hit a historical low in probably over a decade. If they get rid of Manning they will need another 2-3 bad years to draft high and get the talent. If they keep Manning they most likely will only be a marginal playoff team and then need more years to get the talents after he retires.

Bad drafts in the past 5 yrs have hurt a lot.

  9. yup when Freeney went out in 2007 if I recall correctly the Colts had 0 sacks against Rivers/Volek in the playoff matchup

We simply need to have a pair of pass-rushers s.t. teams cannot double both.

But the top condition for them to work: We need a lead and the opponent will have to throw instead of running through our week DTs.

  10. yeah i think concussions may end up killing his career though. it sucks too because hes a beast when healthy.

For me he was not very impressive without Manning throwing the ball. The guy was not physical and quick enough to play but he does have great hands and precise routes. These merits just cannot be seen without an elite QB throwing the ball to the right place consistently.

  11. 1. bracket....had one impressiv year in 09 imo

    2. dungy....never been my cup of team. never understood his aligence to smaller players and mediocre coaches

    3. vinatieri...been banged up and hasn't always been all that clutch. plus he missed a gimme in the super bowl

Can you tell me which one did he miss?

  12. When brady did not have the ability to step it up, he had a heck of a team and they won 3 sbs.

When brady became an elite and stepped it up the team let him down just like what we saw yesterday.

In peyton's career after 02, his team never supported him enough and it had always been on his shoulder to bring a perfect game to win.

In the only year we had a decent runnung game and the defense stepped it up, we won th sb even when peyton did not play extremely well.

We never gave peyton enough help like the giants gave eli. Peyton > eli > brady. Had we had a team even a little closer to the giants, we must be counting sb rings by now.

  13. After seeing Eli win 2 rings I cannot stop thinking: Has Peyton been surrounded by such a group of talents of the Giants ever? The young and talented WRs, a solid D. Peyton's team have almost always let him down by this or that way. The year they did just fine, they won the SB.
