  1. I couldn't disagree with you more. While Peyton is gone, Collins is going to force the Colts to get better for the following reasons:

    1) He is helping our young line get their feet wet against 1st stringers in the NFL. Because Collins has a longer release than Peyton, Our line will be forced to learn how to give him that extra .5-1 second. When Peyton returns that extra half a second or a second will seem like an eternity for the opposing defenses when they try to defend Peyton

    2) It is forcing us to run the ball more and become a more balanced offense. This plays into the idea of helping our young line, because it is easier to block for a run as opposed to blocking for a pass. With the bigger sets we will be using it will further establish our running game. This will set up the play-action pass both while Collins is in there and when Peyton returns. A successful play-action game with Peyton in the line-up is a linebacker's worst nightmare.

    3) It is forcing our defense to show up and not worry about playing with the lead. Collins will not put up the numbers Peyton will, and he will not throw for as many TDs. This means our defense will have to step up their game. I think this could really light a fire under our defense's you know what and force them to improve.

We will be a totally different team with Collins under center. I personally think that is a good thing. We will experience some growing pains. However, the way I see it growing pains are good...it means our team is growing.

Cannot agree more. This is exactly what I stated in another thread. Even if we don't see Peyton come back this year, or when he comes back it is too late to do anything usefull, we should have a team ready for 2 more superbowl runs in the future if Peyton still plays at a pretty high (doesn't need to be as high as he used to be but decently high) level, or we should be ready to welcome a young QB and be competitive quickly after.

  2. Hello everyone. I just read on stampede blue that 1260 Wnde radio station in Indianapolis reported that a source very reliable said that Peyton is out for the season and that a procedure / surgery has been done again. Also colts have not confirmed or denied the report. I don't know what too think. I guess until I see Peyton himself say it or polians say its true.

You'd better only listen to Peyton himself. Polians would not like to tell you what is really going on. Irsay's twitter is also a reliable source, remember how he kinda talked about how difficult it is to keep the good time a couple of days ago, he already knew it...

  3. Well there will eventaully be a day when Peyton say farewell to everybody, and luckily this is just a rehearsal. As it is pointed out in that ESPN article, no other team has ever kept only one starting QB in the past 11 years, and what we have had from Peyton is in controdiction to the nature of this physical sports.

If we take good advantage of this incidence and carefully evaluate the strength and weakness of our team, get a clear recognition of the talent we have, develope a way to win games with a balanced offense and more competitive defense, and meanwhile let the young players and coaching staff learn their lessons and gain experience, it may benefit Manning and the team when he eventaully comes back. Even if it could be too late for any essential success for this season, it might mean a superbowl team in maybe 2 years in the rest of Peyton's contract, and earn us 1-2 more trophys. No to mention the talent from higher draft positions that really address our weakness. To be honest these problems might not be addressed if say we win 10-11 games, go to the playoff as usual, and get an early exit as we did many times before.

Football is an ultimate team sports. The only time we won the superbowl, it was not only because of Peyton, but also lots of great efforts from the running game and the defense. Depending only on Peyton's performance could end his career with only 1 ring. It has never been a moment better than now for us to know how good the Colts really are as a team of 53, such that we can get stronger thereafter.

Plus, the supuerbowl loser curse was kinda for real but Peyton still took us to the playoff. The superbowl host curse seems stronger, even a player as good as Peyton cannot get over them. See Dallas and Tony Romo last year.

  4. I think he will have one of his best seasons with >1000 yards and >8tds. Without Manning throwing, he is the only quality and reliable receiver we have. No doubt if he can catch >100 yards and 1td in less than 30min with Painter throwing to him, there is no way he can't have a great year if he has no problem playing with Collins. Also, since Collins may not spread the ball as Manning does, Wayne may be targeted even more.

I just drafted him to one of my fantasy teams when many other players thought his numbers would drop.

On the other side, Garcon will suck I guess.

  5. A major concern for me is how slowly the team reacted to the QB situation. If there was a possiblity to have Manning missing a couple of games, they'd bring Collins into the training camp from day-1. If so, he might have improved his chemistry with the team and help us win 3-4 games out of the first 6. Now it has been just too late and we can only hope for 1-2.

Anybody believing Painter could start was just insane. From this perspective the management were doing a terrible job.

  6. People are just fooling themselves by believing we have more talents than Collins ever had and he may reach a decent level of success this season before Manning is back. Because:

    1. You are just ignoring the fact that Titans have a legit running offense that we have not had even closely in the past decade. He can connect to the receiving corp effectively because the running game set up the situations for the receivers to get open. Plus, Titans receivers are not indeed less talented than guys like Pierre Garcon. They have Britt. And Chris Johnson is better than the entire Colts RB corp together.

    2. No matter how good he is, even like Brees/Brady-good, it has been less than 20 days since he was brought into the team. Only 15min of preseason football and a couple of practices are not going to be sufficient for any QB to learn operating a new team fluently. Even Manning himself could not manage this in 2008 until one month into the seacon, considering he has been working with this team for 10 yrs.

The only things people can hope for are:

    1. Our running game becomes stronger. The OL is indeed stronger and has lots of potential, and the backs we hold besides Addai and Brown are more competitive than what we had before. However, the problem is still the limited time for them to glue, get experience, and find the rhythm.

    2. Our D stops the opponents from putting up points. The DL may be improved and we can hope they can stop the runs. While the DBs are in serious concerns. One good thing is the first 6 weeks we are facing less pass-happy teams except for the Texans. As far as we can stop the run things wont get too ugly.

In all, the major concern is the ability to score. It does not mean we will be blown out but we could be having many close losses. Only thanks to the schedule we are not facing the pass-happy elite teams until week7 and we might win 2 out of the 6 because the opponents could be struggling to score as well. Collins may improve after say 3 games and win us a game or 2. This is the reality.
