  1. Polian is not the reason this team has had 9 straight playoff appearances. Manning is.

I can't imagine how that could possibly be more apparent.

This season is all about Polian. What type of team has he built beyond Manning?

So far they are 0-6 with very few wins on the radar.

Cannot agree more, and it is because of this team peyton has only one sb. The team find ways to fall shorts.

  2. Amazing, isn't it? A decade of unprecedented success and there are calls for wholesale changes after < half a season that's off to rocky start. Simply amazing.

Yes there was a whole decade of success but meanwhile it was a-whole-decade-but-one-year of disappointment with the greatest QB of all time running the offense. This year is exposing why - there are so many holes in the team that even PM could not get more than one ring with this team.

A whole decade of success, sure, but it is only because of PM. Wherever he goes, he will give the team a decade of success. The magic is not here now, and it will no be here after PM retires, unless they can find a talent of his level.

  3. Sometimes it is not always about being a superbowl winner...the fact is despite we have only 1 since Mannings arrival we have had MORE competitive chances of winning them than any other team...I'd rather have a competitive viable team than one who goes all out to win 1 or 2 superbowls....10+ years of having a competitive awesome team is great by me.

Yes I have been feeling the same and every year I truly believed we were SB contenders at the beginning of each season. Only recently I have realized how distant we are away and the hope is just illusive. On the other hand, except for paying Manning the money, the organization owes him several rings. IMO he is way better than other QBs who are praised as the greatest every day, including Brady and Rodgers. He just never had a team as good as others.

  4. Sorry guys I just feel pitiful for Manning and couldn't find a good way to give him another SB ring, and meanwhile take care of the flaws of the team. I have been watching our games for years and there must be a reason we always find a way to fall short each year. Special team, defense, dropped pass, couldnt convert short yardage, bad coaching...

This year, the thing is very clearly exposed: The team has nothing good but Manning, so even if things could be going our way in general, there must be something going wrong at certain point to let us fail. Playing the odd, the chance for Colts to win a SB is slim, and we have already used our luck to win the only SB in Manning era. That year stars did align and we did suddenly have a defense better than the ravens and a running game better than the bears... You can go figure how stars could align for our current team.

Time is limited. Even Manning comes back healthy, keeping doing what we have been doing is not likely to give results better than an early playoff exit. Not even mentioning what's gonna be after he retires.

  5. Same as most of our Colts fans I used to believe we are 1-2 quality draft picks away from winning the superbowl, and thus I believed that we should draft defensive players and we will have two to three great yrs and win at least one more SB. After these losses I figured it might be far away from the truth.

The team lacks talent, especially on defense, which will need an entire rebuilding. The fact that Manning kept us in the SB hope every year was only because he was that good. But as great as he is, the overall team is bottom five quality and will always find a way to fail. This is why Manning has one 1 ring and we always fall short. Therefore I do not see we get another SB when he comes back. There are too many postions that need amendment and one year of good draft just cannot make it. Not to mention Manning may not be physically as good as he used to be.

It took the Lions an entire decade to rebuild and rebound from the bottom. For us it may not be much shorter, but it can definitely be accelerated if we get more quality picks earlier in the draft. We can let Manning play and show he is still very good at the end of year, and trade him next year to some teams 1 great QB away from being SB contenders (I dont know exactly which team it is, but I always feel QBs for the Ravens, Jets, and sometimes Cowboys are their liabilities) for early round picks in 2012 and 2013.

If we end up with drafting Andrew Luck, the best way to speed up his growth is to let him play. A player of his caliber should not be sitting on the bench for 3 years. With the extra picks we can get a better team around him as well. The rebuilding process may take 2-3 seasons, but we will have another good decade. For Manning, he will end up with getting at least one more SB in the future 3 years and prove he can succeed in multiple teams.

  6. Another reason for Garcon's outstanding performance is that nobody was giving respect to our passing game. They were stuffing our running game and trying to let Painter beat them. And he did. Sooner than later they will start to work on films and pay more attention to our receivers. We will see very soon.

  7. If peyton is back directing plays from the booth it is just a matter of time for painter to become a starter since he has been peyton's student for yrs and he can understand the playbook much better than other qbs. More practice he can kinda give us a mock colts football which is at least better than the titans football we have see in the three weeks.

  8. I dont know if painter is a better qb but one thing for sure is that he doesnt need translation if peyton see sth and call a play from headset. He can be peytons robot and the only problem is the execution. Stop making stupid mistakes and improve the execution in practice he should give us a better chance towin than collins. Had tje coaches let him play instead of collins from day one we could have won the browns game and might win the steelers one and be talking about playoffs at this point condidering AFC south is not a very good dovision.

  9. I didn't think it was fishy until I read this thread. I was actually wondering if he had had concussions before. I don't question the man's integrity. He came here for the opportunity to win.

My thoughts coaches finally understood they brought in a wrong person and they just needed an execuse. They just lost the confidence on him after one 3-and-out after another. The way Collins executed just did not fit Colts style. It was not because he should be retired, it was that he did not belong to Colts football. If he was the one to win the game for us I dont think he was a no-go even he got a real hit.

Another bad decision to bring Collins here by the front office I feel.

  10. If say we have a system Peyton has built for years, Collins surely is not a proper substitue since this is an intelligence-based system rather than a system he has been working in when he played for the Titans. Colts players are not very physical and extremely athletical, so if he wants to see Colts receivers catch like Kenny Britt (OK his season might be over) he will never find them open. However Painter may know the idea of this system very well and that is why one of his throws last night to connect to the open Garcon was the only bright spot in the passing game. He does not have Peyton's execution but nobody in the NFL can understand Peyton's ideas better than his own student. Give him some practice and plays and the season just cannot be worse at this point.

For those who invited Collins here, they need an execuse to stop this horrible experiment. So here it comes.

  11. I do agree the drop off without manning is the biggest for the colts vs any other team. which is the problem with building your entire franchise around 1 player. that is a front office issue. losing manning for the season is just a magnified issue that's been there all along. without him the colts can't win. which means you shut that 1 player down in a playoff game and the season is over. the pats have been getting criticized recently for the same thing. come up with a game plan to stop Brady and nobody else on the roster is capable of winning the game.

I agree and partly the reason for these teams to depend on one player is they both have been pretty good teams for yrs and they do not have the necessary drafts to acquire talents. Thus they build systems and let undrafted players fill in.

  12. It would be cool, but (unfortunately) we might not be as bad as Seattle or KC!

Seriously we need to lose to KC and grab our destiny in our hands. But wait... Is that the only winable game left on the schedule??? What's gonna happen if we really go 0-16? Maybe if Texans secure the playoff seeding we might be able to get a win at home in week 16, and still with both teams go 1-15 we lose head-to-head and get the #1 pick. Seattle should grab a win or two against their divisional worst division in the entire league, so we should be fine with that.

  13. If special team play counts then Sproles is a good choice, otherwise I don't expect him a lot from regular plays. Still teams will study him more and we all know punt/kickoff return TDs are not sth. you can live on.

James Starks may see some good numbers ahead, all depend on this coming week when theoretically he is the 1st RB. It is always good to have Brandon Jacobs if you are having Ahmad Bradshaw given the history of the Giants. For Ben Tate it also depends on Foster's recovery, and you may always make changes to his spot on situations each week.

  14. There is definitely no logic behind the way people are looking at him. Let us assume tomorrow morning he plays at the level of Mathis or Freeny, is it gonna help us out of the hole we are in? There can be only two DEs on the field. As far as Mathis and Freeny are healthy, which was true for last year, whether Hughes is a bust or not will not matter, unless he plays better than either of them in such a short period of time, which everybody should agree is an unrealistic assumption for even the most demanding coach.

Indeed, people are angry because Pollian took Hughes instead of other plays that could contribute. Again it was hard to argue Pollian lost his mind completely when drafting Hughes since Mathis and Freeny were seldom as healthy as they were last year, and we just suffered from losing Freeney and losing the SB at the draft time. Anyway it should be Pollian if somebody needs to step up and take the responsibility for the bust, not Hughes himself.

In all, it is unfair to blame Hughes and it will not solve our problem no matter how good/bad he is. Emphsizing on his issues is purely distracting the fans and taking the well-deserved heat off from the front office.
