  1. The Chiefs have an excellent chance of stealing the West from the Broncos. KC has a good shot at sweeping the rest of their schedule, which would put them at 11-5 on the season with a 5-1 division record. If the Broncos lost two more games, the Chiefs would then win the division because they would hold the tiebreaker (division record).

The Chiefs will be favored in each of their remaining games, including 7-point favorites over the Ravens this weekend. The Broncos are 5.5-point underdogs in Pittsburgh this weekend. That would be step one ....

Chiefs schedule: at Ravens, Browns, Raiders

Broncos schedule: at Steelers, Bengals, Chargers

Congratulations on winning another division crown AMF, but Bill should send Tom & Eli a Christmas fruit basket with a nice note attached thanking Big Blue for the help securing your AFC East title though. I would if I was in their shoes.

I heard your team just picked up RB Montee Ball too. You'll be releasing him soon too. He's done in the NFL, but if any franchise can resurrect a failing back's career, Foxboro will probably pull it off. Dillion, Ellis, White, & now Ball...It wouldn't shock me...

Man, I wish I had the magic formula for remolding NFL careers like NE does. Yes, I'm jealous. I will own that. Although, Bruce Arians in AZ is doing the same thing with Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald, & Chris Johnson too.

Thanks SW. Just read today that with their 13th divisional title win, Belichick & Brady have won the most by a head coach since the merger & most by a QB all-time. Great stuff. Just more gravy on top to arguably the best run in NFL history.

I agree about Ball. We will see if he has anything left. We just need bodies at this point.

I hate to say it but I got a repeat of NE and Seattle...Seattle is nothing to be played with right now. They got their swag back. And these damn Patriots...Who the hell is going to take them out in the AFC? You gotta go into that hell hole and get a win? Not happening...Denver is losing momentum fast. Peyton is not going to save them. Pittsburgh is the only true threat to NE.

Seattle is going to be very tough in the post-season. I trust them more than Cam Newton/Rivera or Carson Palmer/Arians. I do think at Arizona would be tough for Seattle but they know how to win the big games better than any other team. I do think the Rawls injury could be brutal for them but somehow Wilson usually finds a way.

I feel good about the Pats but hope the injuries stop at some point. They are in great position to have maybe their easiest run to the SB the last 15 years with Dalton injured and the lack of good QB play in Denver.

  4. Who really knows how Peyton has handled things. I can't imagine it has been easy for him. When Bledsoe was sat down in 2001 he never said a word publicly prompting most Pats fans to admire how well he was handling things. Then Michael Holly's book "Patriot Reign" published a few years later and we learned Bledsoe was not such a great teammate or handling things well behind the scenes.

That all being said, it is Kubiak that is dancing a tight rope here. There was a story in Denver this week about the locker room splitting between the offense and the defense. The defense has been carrying this team ALL year long and it senses the uncertainty at the QB position. That being said, Brock can run Kubiak system better than Manning and has outperformed Manning. He did nothing in the Raiders game IMO to lose his job but Kubiak is in a precarious situation if he sits a healthy Manning. So there is the rub. If he is not careful he will head down the same path O'Brien did with Houston and the musical QBs which is never good for a team.

One other note. KC is only two games behind Denver with a favorable schedule. They can steal the division from them if they win out and Denver loses two more games which could happen given they are at Pitt and then host Cincy. So the pressure is on to not lose a home playoff game and end up a WC.

Um,  he didn't finish the broncos game.

And what does 2013 have to do with 2015?

He played until the final two minutes in regulation. He missed one game and they did not lose to Philly from a lack of offensive production. Brady scored 4 Tds - 3 passing and 1 rushing.

The sentiment here is the Pats/Brady do not win without Gronk. 2013 proved otherwise in spades.

    0-2 without him

    Um, he missed one game.

Back in 2013 when Gronk missed the first 6 games of the season on the PUP list the Pats went 5-1 without him. Upon his return for the next 7 games (he blew out his knee vs Cleveland in week 14) they went 5-2.

I am rolling with a healthy Peyton. He has had plenty of rest and probably is very motivated to prove people wrong that say he is washed up. He has a great Defense to help as well. Should be interesting to see how things play out.

But he is not healthy and may not he healthy the rest of the season. It is a big gamble IMO but I do think you start him vs SD maybe and see where he is at physically.

The thought of anyone seeing him as a savoir this year lmao

Denver's offense has went down the drain this year with Kubiak's offensive style, and Manning's declined old man state.

I think Denver would be CRAZY, absolutely CRAZY to go back to Manning, and sit Brock. Sure, he had a bad game vs Oakland but he did beat New England, and he has played so much better than Manning has.

If Manning started the Patriots game, they would have got blown out bad, since he was on pace to throw 30 interceptions before he was benched

I know everyone still loves him and it's hard to tell them the truth, but the truth is, he's not going to save that team. They are better off with Brock, much better QB going by the results so far.

There is an even bigger issue for Denver if they sit Brock now as it will be difficult to go back to him if Manning struggles or gets injured. If I was a Denver fan, I would want to roll with Brock because he is the future there (assuming Denver signs him in the off-season) and he can run the Kubiak offense better than Manning. He has played better than Manning and the run game has also been better because Brock can run things from under center. As you say, the reality is neither QB is going to lead this team by himself anywhere. Denver is predicated on their defense so at this point, Kubiak has a huge decision. Do you play a wounded Manning whose foot will not be at 100 percent this season and go back to 2 INTs per game or do you roll with Brock who is still green but can run the offense better? It is by far the most fascinating story of 2015 as we head into the post-season.

Yeah when the Colts didn't go for it in 2009 I was so mad! Regarding Division Titles, since the realignment in 2002 the Colts have won their Division in 2003-2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014. 9 times so not too shabby for us either. I am hoping it will be 2015. That would give us 10 Division Titles in 14 seasons. Congrats on your Division Title, also thanks for helping the Colts out as well because a win over the Texans pretty much gives us the Division now. I just hope at least Hass can play if Andrew doesn't.

What is going on with Hass? Is it likely he will play?

  10. For all you football junkies like myself that love the Xs and Os, here is a breakdown of how the Pats took out Watt and Hopkins. Colts may want to do the same on Sunday. Enjoy.

Here’s how frequently each Patriots blocker took on Watt in the passing game: RT Marcus Cannon: 20 RG Tre’ Jackson: 12 LT Sebastian Vollmer: 7 TE Michael Williams: 6 LG Shaq Mason: 3 RB James White: 3 C Bryan Stork: 3 OT Cameron Fleming: 2 TE Rob Gronkowski: 1 RB Brandon Bolden: 1 Cannon was having a tough stretch as he was recovering from a toe injury, but he deserves a lot of credit for holding up well against Watt. Cannon blocked Watt nine times one-on-one in the passing game and didn’t allow a pressure. Most of the credit goes out to Brady for getting rid of the ball quickly, however. Brady took an average of 2.17 seconds to pass the ball. Even Watt can’t get into the backfield that quickly unless he goes totally unblocked. The Patriots ran toward Watt nine times for 34 yards. They ran away from him 18 times for 72 yards and a touchdown. They single-teamed Watt 18 times in the running game, double-teamed him eight times and left him unblocked once. Watt had a bigger impact in the run game, in which he made three tackles, including one for minus-1 yard. The Patriots double-teamed Watt five times while running away from him and just three times while running toward him.

I think the Giants win, if they don't than the Panthers could go 16-0 definitely then. If the Panthers get to 14-0 I would go for 16-0 if I was them because that rarely happens getting to 14-0. Only the 1972 Dolphins, 2007 Pats, and 2009 Colts have achieved that.

I hope they go for 16-0 too. 2007 was such an amazing season and the Pats did not need to win that final game vs the Giants but Bill went for it and they got the perfect regular season. When you have a chance to get it, you go for it IMO as it is historic. I do think Rivera will go for it even if the games don't mean anything.

I was rooting for the Giants last night so the Pats could capture the division. It is their 7th in row which is a record. It is amazing to think about winning it that much. I am now hoping that the game we play vs the Jets in 2 weeks will be the knock out game in terms of getting them out of the playoffs. That would be sweet. lol.

The only numbers that matter are tds and wins.  QB rating isn't a factor in the MVP. Steve young would have had a bunch if that were the case.  It's Cam's to lose at this point

lol. TDs are not all that matters. All of the passing categories come into play that measure performance. The only area where Cam is better is rushing. I agree about the wins though. They are a big factor which is why Cam has to go undefeated IMO to get it as his numbers will not be good enough compared to Brady.

Newton 35 tds.  Brady 36 tds

    Pretty close

    Newton: 3,062 yards, 59 % completion; 394 pass attempts; 96.9 passer rating

    Brady: 4,138 yards, 64 % completion; 537 pass attempts;  103.6 passer rating

    Not that close.

You clearly did not follow the thread.  I think you have further proved my point in that on a night when they are running the ball more frequently than usual, the Pats still passed on their first 2 scoring opportunities with the ball inside the 2-yard.

I am not sure what your point is with throwing a TD from the red zone. It is actually harder to throw TDs from inside the 10 given the coverage is tight and less field to work with. The Pats had a rushing TD last night in addition to the two passing TDs. Again, they don't have the run game or Oline that the Panthers do and also have Gronk who is the best red zone threat in the game. One of Brady's TDs was a lob pass to him last night. As I already stated, Brady is  significantly better than Newton in all major passing stats. If the Panthers had even one loss right now, he would not even be in the discussion for MVP. It would be Brady and Palmer.

I did not have time to do the research but in this game alone Brady has a 1-yd TD pass and a 2-yd TD pass so far. In the Carolina game today, when the Panthers were at the 1-yd line,  they ran the ball. If it had been the Pats, it would have been a Brady TD pass.

Newton did have 3 TD passes but none from inside the 2-yd line.

Wow. If there ever was NOT a game to make the case for Brady passing more than running it was last night. Brady put the ball in the air 30 times. The Pats rushed it 31 times. And they did this after their top running back Blount went out. The Pats offense is designed every week to take advantage of the opponents weaknesses. Brady is asked to do more than Cam because he does not have the Oline or run game like Cam but does have the benefit of having the best red zone target in the game in Gronk. Again, as has already been stated, Cam's stats are not close to Brady in every measurable passing category so not sure why you are so fixated on just passing TDs. Brady is better everywhere. Cam is having a great year but Brady's has been better. That being said, if Cam goes undefeated than his case his very strong to get MVP or split with Brady.

For any team you can point to other players that have contributed to them playing well.  It's a team sport.

The difference is, with Hoyer playing well and Hopkins as one of the top WRs, without Watt the Texans are still a 4-9 team, if that.

Put a QB like Rogers, Manning, Luck, Brady heck even a QB like Smith on the Panthers and they are still undefeated.

I love Watt but he has not nearly been the influence this year that he was last year for the Texans. The tide turned when Mallett was benched and Hoyer began playing well. We have had this discussion before but the QB effects wins and losses more than any other player. It truly does take a special year by a non-QB player to take the MVP like AP did a couple of years ago. Watt IMO was that guy last year with the historic season he put up and yet the Texans still did not make the playoffs because of terrible QB play.
