    4. southwest1

      southwest1

Carlos Santana does rock indeed JPPT & his wife Cindy Blackman is 1 of the best drummers on this planet too. She's incredible with sticks in her hands. She truly is.

I wonder what the odds are on 2 iconic musicians hooking up & walking down the aisle? It must be extremely rare. They seem like down to earth cool everyday folks too. When they tied the knot, I smiled. No, I wasn't there BTW. I wish. LOL!

Ah some things are slowly coming back to me.  Think those two children were also illegal hires.  Not illegal immigrants but illegal hires.  Think because of this incident Hollywood was required to address safety issues.  Thanks again JPPT.

    3. JPPT1974

      JPPT1974

Really not a good way for Vic and the kids to die. As really no movie or TV show is worth dying in real life for.

    4. JPPT1974

      JPPT1974

BTW it is on Youtube. If you go to either "Twilight Zone Tragedy Vic Morrow" Or Vic Morrow death it is on there. Not for the squeamish. Will not put this up here due to it being a family friendly board.

  14. Anybody going to watch the Oscars on Sunday? Really hope it is all about entertainment and nothing more or less than that.

    1. Jules

      Jules

Not watching. I am tired of the Oscars lately. Not to mention I have not seen any of the films this past year that are nominated. I love movies, but the awards stuff with Hollywood has lost some steam to me.

And yeah, I prefer it not be about politics but you know they won't hold back.

    2. Jules

      Jules

I will check out who won though when it's over. I still can't believe Johnny Depp did not get nominated a year ago for Black Mass. I mean what the hell? Thats when I lost interest. I often see some film or performance and it gets snubbed.

I know this year they will probably give most of the awards to "Manchester by the Sea" anyway.

    3. southwest1

      southwest1

      Hey there Jules,

No worries. I know the Oscars is a long ceremony that usually runs close to 4 hours on average. I don't think Hollywood was ready to embrace a MOB flick this yr, but I agree with you Johnny Depp gave a solid performance in "Black Mass."

I'm still miffed that "Captain Fantastic" walked away with no golden statues at all. Actor Viggo Mortensen gave a tremendous performance in that flick & he definitely got shafted by the Academy this February IMO. I still think of him as Strider from "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, but I digress. haha

Nice chatting with you like always.

I have a thing for wise cracking detective programs with catchy jingles on them. I know. Big surprise coming from SW1. LOL!

My condolences to your friends & family sir.

I remember when I was young kid and this came out, it was a song I could never get out of my head.

    4. southwest1

      southwest1

Ah huh. Once that chorus enters your brain it never leaves CBE.

"Haw, haw, haw...Stayin' alive, stayin' alive, stayin' alive, stayin' A- LIvvvvvEeeee!"

I can't remember stuff I'm supposed to get at the grocery store, but song lyrics are burned into my brain like branding cattle on a ranch man.

  16. Really Falcons choked big time in the big game!

  17. If I want to watch award shows, I will do so for entertainment purposes. Really will never watch an awards show as long as I live. Like the Oscars, will leave it at that!:hissy:

I hate how they get politicized. I'm not watching to hear some celebs ramble on politics.

    2. southwest1

I can understand why some people prefer that say the Golden Globes or the Oscars remains neutral with no controversial about elected officials & just bask in the glow of favorite motion pictures.

However, as a professionally trained historian myself, popular figures of the time can play a vital role in moving the needle of specific issues given their platform & spotlight on such an enormous scale. Robert Redford has always been a strong advocate for the environment. Meryl Streep most recently voiced her frustrations over the current commander-in-chief mocking a disabled reporter saying what needed to be said IMO.

Here's my point: If those under the largest limelight don't speak up for humanity & human decency then who will? To quote from the movie 'Spiderman': "With great power, comes great responsibility."

Can some celebrities use their influence unwisely? Sure. Case in point: The Kardashians. As with anything, moderation is the key or picking your battles correctly. Knowing when to let stuff slide & when to make the necessary stand.

It was odd to see a daughter & mother perish in such close proximity to one another. That scenario rarely unfolds in real life. Among spouses maybe, but child & then mother? That's a new, tragic twist unfortunately.
