draft needs.................

COLTS7

rating system: 5 (pro bowl player) 4 (pro bowl potential) 3 ( solid) 2 (adequate) 1 ( why are you on the team)

QB-Luck-5 Hasselback (insurance)

not a need area

RB- Ballard-3.5 Brown-3

not a need area

TE- Allen-4 Fleener-4

I think Fleener will really show alot more this year...not a need area

WR-Wayne-5 Brazill-2

WR-Heyward-Bey-3.5 Hilton-3.5

if the Colts are sold on Heyward-Bey, this is not a major need area, more depth is needed

OT- Costonzo-3.5

OT- Cherilus-3.5 Linkenbach-2.5

not a major need area, could be upgraded

OG- Thomas-3 Reitz-3

OG- Ijalana-4 McGlynn-2.5

not a major need area, could be updraded

C- Satele-2.5 Shipley-2.5

I think Shipley has shown more than Satele.....not a major need area, could be upgraded

DE-Moala-3 Jean-Francois-2.5

DE-Redding-3 Nevis-3

I think this is the biggest need area, a dominant-play making-elite DE/OLB type

DT/NT-Chapman-3.5 McKinney-2.5

not a major need area, could be upgraded

ILB- Angerer-4 Conner-3

ILB- Freeman-4 Harvey-2.5

probably the strongest positions on the team, not a need area

OLB-Mathis-5 Hughes-3

OLB- Walden-2.5 Sidbury-2.5

see above, #1 need area.....

CB- Davis-4 Vaughn-2.5

CB-Toler-3 Butler-3

Toler is the key, how good can he be? there is always a need for CB'[s and always a luxury to have a shutdown corner (s)

S-Bethea-5 Brown-2

S-Landry-5 Lefeged-2.5

need area #2, depth and upgrade

K-Vinatieri-4

P-McAfee-4

the kicking game is in good hands (feet)

The players going into year #2 are expected to take their game up another notch, there were plenty of free agents brought in, with the hopes of fullfilling their untapped potential, there will some that do and some that won't........there are not alot of major need areas, DE/OLB is the only one I see (more than 1 player) and then just adding talent and depth.

Nice listing and analysis.  I think the only one I see you may not have listed was the Franklin NT signing in case Chapman is not a go as well as Big Mac.  Tevaseau is still on board in case McKinney cannot as well.

I may be in the minority on the board, but as you show Link at a 2.5, I give him a 3 for durability and versatility....16 games is 16 games in the NFL :)

Vaughn I would rate lower and would like to see moved, but time will tell.  I think I want Edges jersey off of him more than anything buddy!!   :)

Fun stuff...and here comes the draft!!!!  Go Colts.   :coltslogo:  :coltslogo:  :coltslogo:

thanks for the input guys, I just went with a 2-deep depth chart, there are plenty of other players that weren't included.....hard to really rate players you haven;t seen play, just trying to make an educated guess.....ratings will always be subject to opinion :-))

Good stuff.....really the only reason I went NT was injury....and I had to give Links a little love amonst the hat on the board...and Vaughn a kick....Just kidding of course....

Ratings are like mocks.....:)  I look forward to seeing your take on the draft my friend!!!

In the old 4-3 scheme I would almost agree on Angerer as a "4" maybe 3.5. Not sold on him tho in this 3-4 yet to rate him that high. Linkenbach at G might rate a 2 but not so much at OT. Bethea didnt impress me so much last year after being such a reliable, solid player in years past. Maybe takes time to adjust?..just my opinion

Donald brown= 1 lol

i honestly never knew that donald brown would still be on this team. he was a reach in the first round. he's mediocre. i still think they should have gotten hakeem nicks.

42 out of 43 aint bad, never said brown has lived up to his first round draft selection, but i have seen him look very good at times, he just cant stay healthy

"OG- Thomas-3 Reitz-3

You missed something in this area, IMHO.  Thomas is a 3, but Reitz is probably a 2 due to injury concerns.  Ijalana is a pretty definite 1 - two reconstructive surgeries in two years, and he's done.  McGlynn's a definite 1 - he did nothing well last year except stay healthy.  Justin Anderson might get a 2, but this is the #1 area of need!

Also, "DE-Moala-3 Jean-Francois-2.5
DE-Redding-3 Nevis-3
I think this is the biggest need area, a dominant-play making-elite DE/OLB type."  Did you notice the Colts have three solid players and one who's better than adequate, and you still call this the biggest area of need?  That doesn't quite add up!

I don't think Colts7 called it a need area - "there's not a lot of need areas, DE/OLB is the only one I see... then just adding talent and depth".  I think he's saying yes we could use an upgrade but not a major need.

I agree with you in we could use a dominant player but that goes for every position.  One season does not make an era but it seems we're on the road to a succesful era!

Thanks Colts7 and Archer for your great insights.

everyone has their opinion.....to be more direct.....I like Reitz, I think he has the makeup to be a solid player, Ijilana was considered to have more upside than Costonzo, when he was drafted, I don't know much about Thomas, but between the 3 of them, I think we can find 2 players, that's why I said could be upgraded, if we draft a guard in the first few rounds, that would be great, still don't think that is a priority

except for Center,  DE was the lowest rated group, with none of the players rated over a 3.............which is why it does add up :-) there is plenty of depth there, but not an elite player and losing Freeney, makes it even more of a need area, edge rushers are very high on the pecking order for a successfull team and we lost one of the best, guards are often found later in the draft and have very successfull careers
