I was thinking maybe ...

1. Sign Mike wallace WR steelers .

2. Trade Dwight Freeney for a 4th rounder

3.Resign Pat Mcafee

4.Sign Steven Jackson RB Rams ( if he chooses to still play )

5. Sign Deangelo williams RB Panthers ( if we don't get steven )

6. Go for Brian Hartline WR Dolphins

7. Take a shot at Dwayne Bowe WR Chiefs

Dude really? We wont sign a top name free agent running back. theres just no need. and how can we trade Freeney if hes already a free agent? plus, we killed it in the wide reciever area in the draft last year so we are set at WR although i think Mike Wallace is already looking at houses in Indy. This is a SUPER year in the draft for the Colts needs, OL, LB, CB and S. i really hope Grigson can show his skills in aquiring draft picks. We must resign Moala and Mcaffee and Butler.

They really arent top Rb's anymore .. They are both 30 and they could both complement VIck ballard perfectly so he doesnt have to take every snap .. And Why do we have to resign Moala ? He he been on out team for about 3 maybe 4 years and never put up the stats expected .. I think we should let him go and get another DE in the draft.

We need to focus on getting  revamping the O-Line and Secondary, and Linebackers. However, Mathis and Hughes did very well in those positions.

I would go more on the defensive side besides a couple O-lineman and maybe a WR. We could use a starting cornerback and maybe a middle linebacker.

I totally agree , but it doesn't seem there are very good oline players this years , outside of jake long

I think even mediocre O-linemen would be decent improvement over current situation. We shall keep who worth it (I would name Castonzo, Shipley and Satele) and sign for the remaining part.

Yeah .. I believe any O line players would be an improvement , thats true . And I think we need to sign another solid WR to take some pressure off Reggie Wayne to make all the plays

how about letting moore or brown go and bringing in Jerious Norwood, he was a pretty good running back in atlanta? Thoughts

He's decent , but not sure he would fit our team , we like to run up the middle . He hits the corners and speeds his way away from everyone

@ tylerdeppe2  I dont think all the pressure is on Reggie Wayne with TY Hilton and Avery out there.

The focus should be protecting the new franchise QB build the O line.

Yeah , but isnt Avery a free agent ? He might want too much money fr someone that has been injury pleaged most of his career .. Not knocking the guy , he's a very solid receiver but i would rather have Dwayne Bowe or Hartline

Free Agency Notes and Upcoming Draft

Under the new administration and last year’s moves the Indianapolis Colts are projected to have the most cap space of anyone in the NFL with over 40 million.  Under the new minimum team spending requirement each team has to spend 89% of the unadjusted cap number.  Below are some of the decisions the Colts organization will have to consider in building a championship team.  The Club should be expecting some additional compensation picks in the upcoming 2013 draft.

With a large amount of cap space available to the organization and team spending requirements the club should be more active in pursuing free agents this year than in years past.  Linebackers, cornerbacks, running backs and safeties are areas that the Colts will need to replenish this year and next due to contracts expiring either through free agency or the draft.  Being forced to spend 89% of the unadjusted cap number it might make sense to add veteran defensive backs.  Other areas the Colts can focus on are defensive ends and linebackers this year in free agency.  Remember the Colts have no second round draft pick.

The following is a break down for each area of concern and needs along with the top free agents of 2013.  Let’s start with Andrew Luck’s best receiving weapon Reggie Wayne at age 34 will be gone after 2014.  Wide receivers are not an immediate need that needs to be addressed through free agency this year and better left for the draft.

The best choice for defensive backs is to acquire Bills FS Jairus Byrd since Antoine Bethea will be a free agent in 2014, a younger and better upgrade.  Looking at strong safeties the Colts might consider Giants Kenny Phillips.  Philly’s Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie would be an immediate upgrade to the corner backs core.  All three are top choices and ideal candidates.

The top coveted running back who has reignited his career in Miami is Reggie Bush who would be a great addition and something the Colts lack to establish a true running game.  With the addition of the new OC Pep Hamilton from Stanford who already is looking to make the Colts more dynamic in the running game.

Top defensive ends expecting premium pay will be Detroit’s Cliff Avril.  Another talented defensive end starting to hit his stride the past few years is Tampa Bay’s Michael Spencer.  A backup DE/DT could be Oakland’s Richard Seymour who brings experience at age 33.

On offense the best FA target would be to acquire Ryan Clady (likely to be franchise tagged) or LT Jake Long.  Acquiring LG Andy Levitre from the Bills is another strong option.  None of which the Colts will sign.

A veteran LILB would be Larry Foote (age 33), LOLB Anthony Spencer from the Dallas Cowboys, or Texan’s Connor Barwin (expect to resign) ROLB have experience in a 3-4 defense scheme.  With the departure of Dwight Freeney, the Colts might wish to move Jerry Hughes to ROLB depending on offseason moves.  Both LILB’s Pat Anger and Kavell Conner contracts will be up next year.

Looking ahead to draft day with no second round pick, on draft day in the first round the Colts should be able to focus on drafting either offensive lineman Alabama’s RT D.J. Fluker or LG Jonathan Cooper both excelling in run games.  Fluker has one of the most impressive arm spans this year but questions will remain about his weight.  Will it be an issue?  Another OL is Alabama’s Barrett Jones who has played right guard, left tackle and more recently center, with more time spent at right guard.  Keep in mind OT Ben Ijalana has still to make an impact after being drafted a few years ago and hopefully he can fully recover and make an impact.  Third round steal would be injured DE Cornellius “Tank” Carradine with options on wide receivers and corner backs.  Another option is targeting Robert Lester at strong safety.

Forward thinking ahead to the end of 2013 the Colts will have to determine key positions of defensive lineman and safeties.  How long can Adam Vinatieri be production?  Starting linebackers and running back will also play into decisions as well.

The Colts will likely retain the following players:

·         RT Winston Justice

·         QB Drew Stanton

·         WR Donnie Avery

·         CB Jerraud Powers

·         CB Cassius Vaughn

·         CB Josh Gordy

Expect the Colts to cut ties with the following players that would count approximately $20 million against the salary cap:

·         Dwight Freeney

·         Austin Collie

These players are on the bubble to be cut:

·         LG Jeff Linkenbach

·         LB Moise Fokou (Eagles 7th round pick)

·         LB A.J. Edds

·         LB Scott Lutrus (special team)

WOW!

I know the colts have alot of cap space but jesus!

things you should consider....

1. Mike Wallace PROBABLY would have come if we still had B.A.

but now that is not happening. mike wallace is not the best route runner, and since we are running a west coast now, we need a route running, sure-handed WR. not someone who can go downfield. i would love that too, but it just wont happen.

2. yea freeney should be cut, but you cant trade him

3. Deangelo williams is actually a pretty good idea. but his injuries have made him an inconsistent back.

4. Brian Hartline is pretty decent, but you might as well keep donnie avery because they are almost the same. its not like hartline isnt ever hurt. but idk. he is pretty good.

5. you need to break the bank for dwayne bowe. why do you think KC doesnt want him anymore? and in my opinion, he isnt a top 5 wideout.

I hope the GIGSON does not spend just to spend i have seen many teams overpayand have to eat those contracts

I think Grigson's time in Philly will be a blessing in disquise.  He saw the "dream team" they tried putting together and saw the poor outcome first hand.
