My Pre-Combine and Draft Bowls Colts Mock/FA

Hey everyone, I am back with my Pre-Combine and Draft Bowls (Senior Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, etc.) Mock/FA!! I am going to start off with Free Agency.

We have many needs this year, but none is bigger than our O-Line. We need to keep Luck upright next season because I don't know if he can take as many hits as last season.

OG's Andy Levitre and Louis Vasquez: Levitre and Vasquez are, in my opinion, the two best Offensive Guards hitting Free Agency this offseason. They are both still young players (Vasquez is 25 and Levitre is 26) and could, along with Shipley, give us one of the best young interior lines in the NFL.

Our next biggest need is our secondary, particularly the SS position. We need a difference make, as Zbi is just not cutting it.

SS Dashon Gholdson: Gholdson is one of the hardest hitting SS's in the league. He would remind us of Bob. He is relatively young, 28, and would fit in great with our team.

With Dwight most likely on his way out this season. We need an edge rusher to replace him, but one that can actually stop the run.

OLB Anthony Spencer: Spencer is arguably the best run stopping OLB, in a 3-4 scheme, in the league. He is awesome in that right. He is a vastly underrated pass rusher though. I would love to see him in a Colts uniform this offseason.

Now on to the draft. I believe that we should trade down to the second and pick up a 2014 first from a lower tier team, while giving back a 2014 5th.

2. OT D.J. Fluker: Fluker is a massive player. He has been going up against the best competition you can get in college for years now. I believe that he will be the final piece of the puzzle for our O-Line.

3. CB Desmond Trufant: As evidenced by our last game, we need a corner opposite Davis. Trufant can be that guy. He has great instincts and has the bloodlines. He is good in run support, which is what we like in our corners.

4. DE William Gholston: Gholston is an amazing athlete at the DE position. He can play DE in the 3-4 or 4-3. He will slide some in the draft due to character and production concerns, but would be a steal at this point in the draft.

5. (Compensatory) WR Marcus Davis: Davis is a big receiver at 6-3 and is very fast. He needs to work on his hands and route running but when he gets those down, he will be a force to reckon with. Reggie's strengths are Davis's weaknesses, so playing with Reggie woll help Davis a ton.

6. RB Spencer Ware: Ware is a bruiser and, in my opinion, just what we need to pair up with Ballard and Brown. He has only fumbled once ever in his college career and could easily replace Carter as our short yardage back. He is an ultra competitor and just the player I want on this team.

6. (Compensatory) C Braxton Cave: He could come in and compete against Shipley and Satele for the starting job. Very smart player and that's what I want in a Center.

7. K Dustin Hopkins: Vinatieri is getting older and we will need a replacement, so why not get the best kicker in college football.

Thanks for reading and don't forget to comment below. It's the Future and you never know what's in it.

Hey good article. Fluker is an awesome lineman but i dont know if grigs would think so. he has a down year and though hes awesome in the run game, his pass protecting needs work. i would love to have him though. he's got octopus arms, and a HUGE wingspan and i personally dont think he'll have a problem protecting luck, coming from alabama. But its whatever grigs thinks and he just doesnt seem to fit the mold. Wouldnt it be crazy if we got Fluker and Barrett both?! Im still hoping they can find a way to pull DeCastro from Pittsburgh. I think we have great OLB opportunities in the draft: Chase Thomas for example, if we decide to trade down for two second rounders. Otherwise, i would be thrilled to get Cliff Avril or Paul Kruger. (Texans arent going to let go of Barwin). But actually, if we dont trade down then i think CB Xavier Rhodes would be an absolutely perfect fit opposite Davis. Man, Hes good with all kinds of potential. and big, too, especially for a corner, in the same mold as Davis. Can you imagine having two davis's?! and i dont think the bills will let Levitre go. they're getting a new QB this year and will need all the help they can get. MLB Shayne Skov and OLB Chase Thomas is an extrememy intruiging duo. it would be a luxury as we have good linebackers already....and your right, we need more safeties. Georgia SS Shawn Williams is a great pick and should be avail. in the third rd.

Hello there Coltsguy510!!

I like the FA Offensive linemen.....if we do not break the bank (yes I realize how much we have to spend) and what I want to see happen is Spencer.

I know a lot of folks on here do not agree on Spencer, but I feel he could be  THE 'disguise' guy that makes the difference between the defense we had this year and traditional Ravens 3-4.  I have felt he can go hand down in the NFL, and in our defense disguise is 'priceless.'  Link below on Spencer willing to play DE.  It does not hurt with Emmanuel and Grigs he is from Purdue either.   :)

I think the only thing I would not consider is Cave from ND....Satele has a 3 year deal, and Shipley if surrounded by studs will be a SOLID center as a starter.  If Grigson trades Satele, I would take that flyer on Cave to develop in case we are wrong on Shipley....or if he has any lingering knee injuries.

I usually do not get in too much detail...pick one or two things.  I am confident that with Pagano and this group, players that arrive here will be ready, willing and able to continue to build the monster!!!

nice article!

i totally agree that OL is very important and you are completely right with going to free agency for that.

now on to the other things:

there is no way dashon goldson will even hit free agency. SF will show them the money

getting anthony spencer is a great idea! im in a family of Cowboys fans, i watch him all the time. he can rush the passer and can stop the run. the only problem is he cant cover for crap!

and i have been a colts fan for about 8 years now, and from what i remember, bob sanders was only good for 2 seasons, (in my opinion, '05 and '07) he was undersized and injury prone. he never even recorded 100 tackles in a season! AND HE WAS A SS.

but again nice post that is just my sole opinion

I like Spencer for our D, but when we are rising near the top in 3 years or thereabouts, he will be near the end of his peak career. I vote No.

Like him for the NOW.....we need to get to the real 3-4 defense.  Not the Freeney 3-4.  Just an option.....just an opinion for a FA with the money we have....a true fit in the 3-4...with disguise!!!
