  1. actually alot of the games the skins have lost was due to poor defense like against the rams (they had a 20 point lead i believe and defense blew it) and today with just under a 1:40 left after scoring a go ahead TD the defense let cruz get behind them for 70 yards. then the offense was driving again with 10 to 15 yard passes and then santana moss fumbled. same thing against atlanta 10-7 torward the end of the 3rd then RG3 went down then it was 14-10 then 17-14 and the defense fell apart in the final 3 minutes. the only game they actually got beat in where they never had the lead going into the 4th qtr was against the bengals when they lost 38-31. but yeah kyle shannahan is ruining that offense, but mike wont fire his own son.

Actually I disagree about Kyle. They've tailored an offensive playbook that suits RG3's skillset perfectly, and not only that, but put him in a position to not make very many mistakes. The Pistol formation they've been using is pretty fun to watch. They don't run a deep routing tree. To be honest Arians should be doing the same. He needs to tone down the routing tree a little bit, in terms of yardage, and allow some of these guys and Andrew to get a little more of a rhythm early on, then start spreading the field more.

I don't really care for the empty back set, and I think he's putting a lot of pressure on Luck when its not needed. However, the O-line excuse isn't going to be there much longer as they've continually gotten better each week and have been solid the past 3, and Luck is taking unnecessary sacks because he's holding on to the ball too long. Again I think a good portion is on Arians shoulders but Luck hasn't helped himself either in some situations.

He puts a full game together and its likely to be a lopsided win for the Colts, but I think there are some adjustements that need to be made to help both out and make to help make the game easier, not more difficult as the game progresses.

  2. Vontae...

The guy is pretty much taking his side of the field away. We all pretty much knew what we were getting from him before he got here as he already had experience. With Gordon you're pretty much just looking at potential and we've already got that in Avery, Hilton, and Brazill. We needed major help at DB, not so much at WR. I think the Colts made the right decision.

  3. Yeah I know...I am aware it is somewhat akin to wanting your cake and eating it too. But I don't think teams are afraid to throw Vontae's way just yet. He's not at that Revis/Nnamdi level. He's had opportunities where he has been challenged but hasn't really done anything too impressive thus far. Still if he isn't being called out for negative plays that is good for a corner but for a guy we traded a potentially high 2nd round pick for, I want to see him getting some picks soon.

He's got to be thrown at more for that to happen. He had 3 targets today and only 1 was more than 6 yards. When QBs are throwing quick slants those are almost impossible to pick off. He's doing exactly what he was brought in to do which is take away one side of the field. Its now up to the other guys who do get targeted a bunch to get INTs. The odds of getting a 2nd round talent that gets the respect that Davis does from OC's is VERY LOW.

  4. The ONE play he doesn't run like a tank, like he had been all game, he takes a yard loss and causes the Colts to punt. I thought he ran very well and hard all game except that one play. He had a good game I thought. I thought Ballard did well too but he was too timid on some of his runs and doesn't maintain his balance very well. Again, with the exception of a few plays by these guys they did well.

  5. I'm not sure if the problem is the DL not commanding double teams, which is allowing the lineman to get up on our linebackers or if it's the linebackers not getting off the blocks. I listened to one of Arians interviews and he spoke more than once about people not being in the right gaps and people missing tackles. Doesn't seem like a talent issue, but more of an execution issue. More talent wouldn't hurt though.

Conner was guilty of that yesterday on one of Greene's TD runs ( the one where Greene went off center a lunged for the endzone ) where he completely left his gap and jumped in Freemans. Greene went right through that gap untouched, where Conner should have been, and didn't get hit until 5-7 yards downfield and he lunged to the endzone. Was a tick poor decision on Conners part.

  6. I couldn't understand why he didn't take off and run more today. There were a couple 3rd and shorts where he would move up in the pocket but instead of just running for the first down and extending those drives he tried forcing the ball to receivers that weren't open. His ”touch” is off on his passes but thats something he'll figure out sooner rather than later.

  7. He's an upgrade, albeit a small one. With him back we just have our better players on the field. Freeman hasn't done much since his first two games. He's always near the ball, but so was Pat. Pat could do anything they both could do. And he's better in coverage than Conner. So when he gets back, he and Freeman should be the starters with Conner getting some healthy snaps as well.

Those 4, together, make me VERY comfortable and happy about the Colts ILB's.

  8. He's also the most proven LB we have. If someone wants to take the 4 games Freeman's had and declare him better than Angerer, so be it, but he's a different level of player than Fokou and Conner. No knock against those guys, but Pat's the Pro Bowl talent out of the bunch. I still think he's better than Freeman, but Freeman is playing well right now. He should be the starter along with Angerer.

Break the averages down from Pat's first four games last year to Freemans this year. Nearly identical. Conner is on pace to coming very close to what Pat did last year as well and to be quite honest, even with Fokou rotating in, he's not going to be far off either. PLEASE show me where Pat has outplayed these guys. I've not seen anything more from Pat than I have seen of these guys. He's not that kind of talent that's going to make or break this defense. Its not like losing Mathis this weekend and sliding in Hughes. I can't count the number of posts I've seen so far that says "hopefully Hughes steps it up". Again, the guy is average at best and isn't a loss to this team by any means. There is no way I take the starting roles away from Freeman/Conner. The drop off isn't as significant as it would be like Mathis/Freeney to Hughes/Addison/Brown

  9. average at best? the dude would have been a pro bowler if his team wasn't so bad last year. 236 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 5 pass defensed, 1 interception, 2 sacks in 2 years for your weakside LB(he didnt even start his rookie year until late in the season) and Mike LB. numbers never lie(for a linebacker). numbers lie for defensive backs

Half of his tackles were assists last year. As much as the defense was on the field last year he should have had inflated stats. He's a slightly more athletic Rob Morris. It is what it is.

  10. It's not hard to lead a team in tackles when you tackle them 6/7 yards already down the field.

    :number1:

I still don't see what other people see in Pat. He's an average AT BEST LB. He's a good guy to have as depth, but as a starter right now? No thank you. They need to keep rolling with Freeman/Conner/Fokou and once Pat gets back slide him in with Fokou on passing downs.

  11. For one... I think we need to stop with the Mike Wallace talk. As has been stated before there are BIGGER holes than WR right now and even next year. The guys who are playing now, after a full season and another off-season, should be much better next year. Lets let these guys play first before we start playing the adding/subtracting game. On top of that, the Colts don't need another "smurf".

As far as stepping up, I think it comes down to who gets targeted more after Reggie. There seems to be a pretty big drop off, in terms of targets, after Reggie and I don't necessarily think you HAVE to have that #2 guy. Everyone needs to step up if Reggie just happens to be taken out of the game. I really think Dwayne Allen gained A LOT of confidence from Luck with some of the catches he was making. Not the fastest guy, but he's caught pretty much everything thrown his way. To be honest, looking back at Packers game, Hilton, Allen, and Fleener all made some pretty good plays. With the game that Reggie is bringing this year its going to take a group effort from the other guys to match what Reggie has been doing if, again, Reggie seemingly gets taken away. I'd have to say that I would be surprised if any corner this year shuts him down, especially with what he just did to Charles Woodson. I also hope DB's keep jawing with him because it seemed like the more they did it in the Packers game the more Reggie kept burning them. Keep fueling that fire.....

  12. This section peeked my curiosity.

So I started looking at Passes defensed/defended which is defined by stats inc as : Any pass which a defender, through contact with the football, causes to be incomplete.

The results are not very flattering. Luck has the highest % of his attempts that have been defended by a defensive player. I started out taking the top 10 based on attempts(Luck is #10 in attempts) and Luck was ranked 10th, so I wondered if it was a rookie thing(although Weeden has more attempts(5 games), and Luck was still the lowest, so I continued digging into all 33 starers(used both Tennessee QB's[i didn't use Skilton or the Redskins qb2] since htey have limited action, and Luck ended up with the highest %.

Is that scheme? Is that accuracy issues? Is it more of an issue with WR/TE's? , Is it Arians' predictably? It might be a combination of each of those along with some other attributes.

Roethlisberger was in the bottom 5, and even though he has a new OC, their offense looks similar. Weeden, the other rookie with the most passing attempts is also in the bottom 5.

The top 2 QBs come from the WCO as do six of the top 10. I'm not certain that it is limited to Arians scheme because other offenses/teams often looked to have more wide open receivers over the years... Warner with the Rams/Cardinals always seemed to have guys that didn't have anyone near them. The same can be said for Brady and New England. Peyton always had much tighter windows to fit the ball into than Brady. So it might be a bit schematic but it is not exclusive to this years team.

By no means is this "stat" all on Luck but it is an interesting stat.

Taking the running game/O-line out of the equation and looking strictly at Andrew's passing and where he is "targeting", he seems to be a step behind in his throws. Going back and looking at the throws he makes to receivers going across the middle of the field, and particularly to Reggie on his sideline throws, he doesn't seem to lead them with the ball. He throws more at the receiver instead of out in front of them. Those passes make it much easier for defenders to knock down as well as slow the receivers up to allow the defenders to get there. He had quite a few this past weekend where Reggie caught the ball right in his chest or had to catch the ball from behind.

His deep ball to Avery this past weekend was beautiful, and was a shame that it was a little overthrown.

I don't think its really anything to worry about as I undoubtedly believe he will get better. As some have said, this is just his 4th pro game and he's playing like veteran already for the most part. This was just something that me and my father happened to notice and noticed it in other games as well. I'm completely thrilled with what Luck has been able to do so far, and once he really gets his timing down with everyone else, he's going to be a VERY dangerous QB.

  13. The way he gave up on the play is what annoyed me the most. Instead of attacking, he waited for Green to come to him. He has to be "clean up" as the SS. What bothered me even more was on the same exact drive, next play if I remember correctly, Rodgers threw a pass right over his head and he didn't even jump or try to bat it down when he easily could have and that pass ended up being a TD. He gave up not once, but TWICE on the same drive. That's a problem and there is no excuse for that.

He's been OKAY so far, but I don't think he's really that much of a game changer in that Lefeged couldn't come in and do anything less than what Zbi's done.

  14. Luck has been hit about a 1/3 of the times Rodgers has, and he's taken some shots as well AND over the course of the past couple of seasons. Luck is built to take those shots and thats truly the only REAL shot he's taken so far. Not only that, heck the guy was just looking to take out Woodson and the other DB on his 3rd and 7 run. Its going to take one heckuva hit to knock Luck out it looks like.
