  1. The O-Line passed blocked well today. I`m not sure they didn`t run block fairly well too, because early in the game, just like last week, our backs just ran straight into the defenders, and not looking for cuts and creases. Thanks for your opinion tho.

I thought the line did exceptionally well today. It was a night and day difference from the last couple of weeks. Once Arians realizes that running off tackle and outside more is the way to go, they will continue to be successful. I hope they continually improving like they did today. I'm also pleased with McGlynn's play at center. His snaps were much better today and the interior overall gave Luck a lot of room to step up and make his throws.

  2. The first PI call I could live with because he had the guys' shoulder pad, but the second PI call against him was BAD. He gave a quick jam at the line and proceeded to run with the receiver down the sideline. He never grabbed, nor hindered the receivers route and got flagged. That was a very bad call against him.

Lets not forget the play he made coming up to take MJD out in the middle of the line where if it weren't for Vontae taking MJD's legs out, MJD gets 10+. He's rarely been targeted with the exception of the Chicago game. I'm sorry but please show me where he's played bad. He's an aggressive corner and as I said he's earned a couple of his PI calls, but there have been 3(1 from each game) that he shouldn't have been called for.

For those bashing Vontae, how about you give a BIG shout out to Antoine Bethea for completely blowing his coverage on that 80 yard play. As bad as Sergio Brown got beat that play should have never made it past the point the catch was made had Bethea not reacted to a player 20 yards away from him which cause him to leave the middle of HIS side of the field wide open.

  3. I wonder how much Pagano gets into actually coaching now that he is a Head Coach, because I've heard that it is about all you can do to manage the day-to-day drama of being in charge of everything down to interviews, coaches shows, etc. A real grind. Too bad we lose a very good football mind as far as actually coaching the fundementals and intracacies of the game which Pagano has lots of experience with although he was only a minor asst. coach of this nature or that prior to his last year in Baltimore. Maybe they need to clone him. I'm so glad I don't have to hear you-know-who in the post game pressers!!!

From what I'm hearing about his brother, he would be a great coach to have as well. However, I'm thinking he's following the footsteps of Chuck in trying to cement his name as a defined defensive coach and in turn hopefully turn into a head-coach somewhere.

  4. Again you missed the point. It's not about where you went to school or where you are drafted. It's about the talent you have. If where you were drafted the top three picks every year would be from LSU, Alabama, and USC. Yet two players have been taken from those schools in the first three picks in the past three drafts combined.

Rather the Big East is a weaker conference or not when compared to the other BCS conferences doesn't matter when you are talking about individual players. If you think Brown was a reach because you just don't think he was a first round talent that's fine to say he wasn't worthy of being a first round pick just because he played in the Big East is not really a valid reason. Freeney and Harrison are just two examples of players who have come out of Big East and been very good players in the NFL. Again when it comes to talking about an individual player and his talent you can't judge that on the school or conference he played in alone. Again if that was the case the only good players in the NFL would have played at the schools I listed above and only a few others like Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Oregon.

 Good lord... Once I again, I never stated that ANY of those guys didn't have talent. Obviously they do or they wouldn't be in the NFL. They simply played against inferior competition. Some (Freeney, Mathis, Bethea) are as good as advertised. Donald? We just don't know yet because he hasn't really been given the opportunity nor the help to see if his college game translates over to the NFL.

Go back to 98'. Look at Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning. There is NO WAY I take Leaf, playing in a soft Pac-10, over Peyton Manning and what he did in the SEC. Statistically they were almost the same. Competition they played against? Not even close. And we all know where their careers are headed and have gone. The SEC and Big10 continuously send the most players to the NFL and have been for YEARS. The odds of the guys playing in those conferences and being successful in the NFL are undoubtedly much higher than those of the other conferences. Again, thats not to say that the other conferences don't have talented players, because they do, but it becomes more of a shot in the dark if they can actually produce at the NFL level after having been in a low level collegiate conference.

However, I do remember Polian always saying that when they evaluate players in lower conferences/divisions they need to see said player dominate and stand out against their competition. Brown, Mathis, and Freeney all did that and so far Polian was dead on on two of the three. The jury is still out on DB.

And sorry for going off topic, but I've enjoyed this debate..

  5. Steelers O-Line isn't bad... Good lord. Their issue is Ben holds onto the ball for 8 seconds trying to make a homerun play. Instead of running it or just throwing it away, he stands in the pocket and looks for someone. That's why they're considered bad. Also, not having Mendenhall playing is killing their YPC.

    :number1:

  6. When Freeney was in school cuse was in the same big east you are trashing brown for playing in at school. Don't give me the acc thing because that just happened this year.

I stand corrected and completely forgot about that. However, as I said in my previous post I never said Brown wasn't talented. I'm merely stating that what he did in college, in a non-powerhouse conference, is about the equivalent of Polian drafting Mathis in the first or second round because of what he did at Alabama A&M. My point, and my opinion, is that Polian reached on Brown for what he did in college.

And yes the Big East now, like it was back then, is trash.

  7. i dont get it how to we not need another wr? we got reggie wayne donnie avery a couple of un proven rookies and austin collie is prob gonna be injured the whole season if you compare the colts wr cores to every nfl team we prob got one of the poorest wr cores in the nfl were using are te's to block almost every play until hilton or another rookie steps up in the regular season we should always look to improve our wr's

And how are they going to get any better if they don't play? Hilton has more than proved he's capable of playing. Adams is getting quite a bit of reps right now and Brazill is caught up in the numbers game. They are carrying 6 WR's right now. They've been playing just fine without Collie.

  8. Well its about where you went to school freeman bethea Mathis and Freeney might as well stop showing up since none of them went to a big football school they must just not have talent. :(

You missed my point. Bethea was drafted in the 6th round. Freeney, having played at Syracuse (ACC) is a way better football program than playing in the Big East. It would have been like Mathis being drafted in the end of the first/top of the second because he set the college sack record, 20 1/2 I believe, playing at Alabama A&M. Mathis was drafted in the 4th. Again, none of those guys were a reach with the exception of maybe Freeney due to his size but he played in a decent football conference. Mathis and Bethea were drafted way later and have exceeded expectations tremendously.

  9. well if collie doesnt get on the field he wont be a colt much longer... leaving a vacancy at WR

And to repost what was said by Balzer...

    We.............do..............not................need...............another................WR!!!

  10. Brown was projected by many to be the 2nd or 3rd running back taken in 2009 and had one heck of a college career including 18 touchdowns in 2008, 267 yards in 1 game and 2083 yards in 2008, I dont see him as worthless, if anything is worthless (as starters in the NFL) then its the entire right side of our O Line

He played at..... Connecticut. Connecticut played against way lower level college football teams. Its not like the guy was racking up yards in the SEC or Big 10. I am by no means saying he's not good, but Polian made a HUGE reach when he went for Donald Brown.

Regarding McFadden, the guy is a major threat out of the backfield running or catching passes. The problem in Oakland isn't him. Thank god we can pin point our issues here with it primarily being the right side of our O-line, but Oakland has way more problems than just their O-line. Palmer is struggling bad and teams are virtually stacking the box making him pass the ball. Their receivers (Heyword-Bey and Moore) are average at best, and obviously there is their O-line. I would take McFadden in a heartbeat for Brown and a 4th, but I highly doubt that rumor is even close to being real.

  11. he is hurt bad .... as you know.... don't expect him back ANYTIME soon.

Not sure I totally agree with that when his tweet, a couple weeks ago, stated he was back to ”squatting the house again”. If he were still hurt I doubt he says that. I look for him to be ready to go by week 7.

  12. My God,

So Donnie Avery has the best game of his career (after having a non existent one last week besides the TD catch), and suddenly people think he could compete with Reggie for the better season.

Reggie will have the better season and it won't be close.

Sorry for being a bit of a hard-butt here, but I think that's the only way I could put it.

If Luck throws that pass that was picked off by Jennings another 5 yards deeper, Avery has a for sure 60 yard TD. Avery is playing the deeper routes, obviously, while Wayne is playing the shorter safer routes for Luck. I say Avery can stay pretty close in yardage to Reggie, but I think Reggie will beat him by a large margin in receptions.

  13. There is still NO WAY I pull Freeman off the field right now. The guy is playing out of his mind. Its just my opinion, but Freeman has better speed, takes better angles to the ball carrier, and finishes tackles much better than Pat does. I still say Pat should have to earn his spot back. Pat is in NO WAY that much better than Freeman to just have his spot given back to him.

  14. Maybe. But i'm pretty sure he said earlier that the TD throw to Wayne "was not a very good throw".

From what he's used to seeing, in his opinion maybe it wasn't. Again, I want to see what he's been seeing while Luck was in college, but here in Indy. Once the O-line gets more consistent and Arians gets more trust in Luck I have no doubts we'll see him getting better than what he already is now.

  15. I think he's in that "next man up" role right now. As I've put in other posts, TY and Lavon have shown flashes of being a younger Marvin/Reggie duo. Lavon is just caught up in the numbers game right now and unless guys get hurt, and I pray to god none of them do, he's just on the outside looking in.

Lavon is going to get his time. I think he's going to be an excellent receiver once he gets his chance.

  16. It's cool you watched him so much in College, but honestly i think you should give up the criticism of the TD throw to Wayne. I mean it was pretty much a perfect 30 yard TD pass. His "fastball" in that situation may have been picked by the LB. He had to get it over the LB and down before the 2 defenders coming in from the side could get break it up. It was a great throw and i think saying he can make a better throw is nitpicking. JMO. There are certain plays where he needs his "fastball" and there are other plays where he needs more touch. See his first throw on the game winning drive where he rolls out to see where he needed his "fastball". But again, those were 2 totally different plays.

I think NewColtsFan is saying that if we all thought that TD pass to Reggie was a good play we really haven't seen anything yet. I don't necessarily think he's nitpicking Luck but rather saying that from how he was in college to how he is now, he hasn't taken control of the game yet like he did in college, which is rather obvious. I like what I'm seeing right now out of Luck but if NewColtsFan is pretty much saying he's going to be that much better? I absolutely can't wait to see it! :td:

  17. I agree with what a couple of you guys said. I think it really comes down to timing. On top of that Avery is in the top 1% in terms of NFL speed. I don't know if its in his head that he's afraid he will over throw him or what, but once he just throws it out there for Avery to go get it those 2 are going to be a DANGEROUS tandem.

As far as the video that was posted, yes Owusu did slow up a little. If you watch as the camera pans to him and starts to zoom in, he slows down a little(watch his stride) and then speeds up. I'm guessing Owusu miss-judged the ball. Although I'm sure throwing into the wind caused Owusu to have a different perspective of what the ball was doing while in the air, or he's never ran after a 70 yard ball thrown by Luck.

Luck is going to be just fine..

  18. https://www.profootb...er-snaps-count/ this is why Im hard on Powers at times, these #'s are of last year

The guy played in an extremely SOFT Cover-2 defense in which they were spotting WR's 10 yards last year. Actually, those numbers are from 2 years ago if you look at the date of the article. I don't really know what you expected from the guy in THAT defense. The guy almost had an interception against Chicago defending Brandon Marshall and almost had another pick this week. Yes, he was targeted quite a bit but he held his own and limited everything his way.

  19. Hopefully this here kills all the thoughts of wanting to bring in another WR in the offseason whether it be FA or draftee. They may be small but I think we are seeing our own version of what the Steelers are using right now. SPEED! Sure it would be great to have a freak like AJ, Bowe, or Megatron, but we are getting great production out of these guys now without the huge contract. These guys can play and as has been said once Luck gets a little more time in the pocket these guys are going to take off.

    I like our Smurfs :td:

  20. Freeman has done just fine with the defensive play calling and his play in general. Him and Conner are working excellent together right now and I just can't see taking either guy out right now with the way either of them are playing. I don't think I mess that chemistry up right now unless either one just have an outright terrible day or get hurt. Angerer will get his reps but I wouldn't start him. Although I have to admit I'm not that big of a fan of the guy as some of you guys are around here. As a 2nd round draft pick I don't think he's played at any higher of a level than what Freeman is playing at right now and he went undrafted. Let Freeman continue starting and make Angerer earn his spot back.

This isn't a situation like if Reggie were to go down and questioning if he would get his spot back. We all know that Reggie is light years beyond the other guys. Angerer/Freeman? Pretty equal. Make Angerer take the spot back from Freeman.

  21. My God, threads like these make me crazy

    1) Criticizing play calling is the hallmark of the clinically uninformed. There is too much that we don't know about to justify the criticism

    2) Last week the criticism seemed to be centered around throwing it too much and this week it is about being too conservative. Laughable.

    3) If the double tipped pass falls incomplete like it would have 90% of the time, this is not an issue

    4) And ultimately here is what bugs me most. They won the freaking game. There is real hope for the team where last year there was none. That was my sentiment walking out of the stadium yesterday - as my friend Andy Dufrain said "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things." The Colts needle is pointing due north. They are not a playoff team but they will be fun to watch and are going to be infinitely more competitive than at any time in 2011. Just celebrate the fact that they won and know the win will be the first of many in the years to come.

I think you and smitto are missing the point of what the majority of us are trying to say. Its not about running the ball, which as most of us have said the idea was fine. It was the running plays that were called. That's the problem. The repeated number of times that they ran right into the interior of that D-line with the same EXACT play that wasn't going anywhere but backward was the problem. Not once did they run it to the right. Everything was either A-gap or the other 1% being off tackle or outside to Costanzo's side. There was no variation. When they ran off tackle or to the outside they were getting very good positive yards out of it, but they only did it MAYBE a handful of times.

As I said in another post, the balance was awesome. The choices of the run plays called? Horrendous! STOP doing what's not working when you've tried it and failed 10+ other times. Stacking the line and expecting our 7 to go against their 8 or 9 and trying to win that battle hasn't worked either. Spread the offense out and get the LB's and safety's off the LOS. I would much rather our running backs and O-line try and fight through 5-6 guys as opposed to 8 or 9 guys.

    Just my opinion...
