  1. Absolutely ZERO quit.. They never gave up and the defense was brick wall solid the entire second half, with the exception of a play or two which is expected against an offense like the Packers, and they just kept giving the offense chance after chance to put the game away and it would have been a shame if they came up short. Once Robert went out, after his second sack, they just seemed to pin their ears back and get after them. The secondary definitely should get a lot of that praise as well for how well they help up.

    They EARNED this one...

  2. Ehhh.. I thought it was a clean hit. The ref that threw the flag was behind Perry, and from that view and as fast as it happened it looked illegal, but the view straight on gave the perception, to me, that it was a legal hit.

The play the Colts got away with was the pass interference on the defender that Avery happened to shove out of the way. That should have been offensive PI or at the least a no call. The Packers got a bad one there, but I thought early on they were giving quite a bit of help to the Packers anyways. It all evened out in the end :td:

  3. The one sack that AC gave up wasn't his fault. They completely overloaded that side of the line and he played it exactly like he should have. Inside out. He took the inside guy in which Matthews was the outside guy so "technically" speaking AC should have let him go. I'm sure Luck seen the line on that side, but just didn't get rid of the ball fast enough. AC gives up ONE sack and people are calling him out. I may be an arm chair guy like most of us here, but common sense doesn't seem to be a quality trait of a "few" around here.

  4. I think TY. Would be Avery coming out of college. But age and injuries probably made him a tad bit slower. It might not even be noticeable since he looks fine though.

There was a report that over the winter, after he was released by Tennessee, that he ran a 4.28 40 when he was giving teams workouts. I agree with what most have said, TY seems to be more elusive, but straight line I think Avery has him there.

  5. Yep, lets just cut one of the the best clutch kickers EVER . The guy ALWAYS misses a couple chip shots EVERY year, heck they all do, but when the game is on the line and the Colts need a FG to win, I want NO ONE out on that field other than Adam VInatieri. The guy is MONEY and without a doubt the best in the business in game-winning situations. In my opinion, getting Adam was one of the best things Polian EVER did besides drafting Peyton and Edgerrin. If people think we are going to find the Andrew Luck of kickers out there to replace one of the best in the business, they are out of their mind. Lets not push our luck (no pun intended) here fellas.

  6. Come on.....

Just to talk about the Bears and Colts game, had Luck not underthrown Avery or Adams, Jennings two INT's could have EASILY been two TD's for the Colts. Avery and Adams had him beat BADLY (by atleast 5 yards). Jennings was the beneficiary of two poorly thrown balls rather than him outright making tremendous INT's off the receiver. I'm happy to see him getting recognition, but MVP worthy? I don't think so...

  7. Sunday was not one of betheas better games that's for sure. He got caught thinking the play was going to go outside and paid for it. He also got blocked out on the long td run too. Unusual mistakes from bethea.

Absolutely agree! I was kind of disappointed of him when he let himself get blocked out of that run play. Usually he's the guy who slips through and makes that tackle. The way I look at it though is even your greats have games like that, and Sunday was his day. He's human and as you said those a very rare plays that are made by Bethea, and I'm sure he regrets them tremendously.

  8. The safeties are just what their position is, and thats the safety net for CB's who blow their coverage. its easy to blame a safety but what about the CB who lets the guy go? for example the last play for jacksonville, CB got beat and he got beat bad up the middle and it resulted in a TD. if im not mistaken beathea was on that side and zybkowski was on the other end and was covering his sector like he should. bethea was covering his deep side like he was suppose to but who ever was covering that receiver blew his coverage because he was watching the QB instead of worrying about the receiver.

Sorry, but Bethea is as much to blame as Sergio Brown was because Bethea was NOT covering his part of the field like he should have been. He reacted to the outside receiver and made a move towards the sideline instead of staying in the middle of the field. That caused him to widen the middle of the field and lose position on the receiver that Brown got lost on. Had Bethea played his coverage as he was supposed to, that play doesn't go 80 yards.

  9. I really didn't have a problem with his playcalling overall, yesterday. A botched snap, terrible officiating and a Luck INT killed (at least) 4 productive drives. He called better run plays (outside runs) for Brown, he called more short passing routes and he allowed Allen to release more than he had in the previous 2 games. And despite the flack the O-line has been getting, I thought they played better yesterday. Luck seemed to have a cleaner pocket more frequently in this game than any other. The run blocking still needs to improve, but this was their most solid performance as a unit, IMO

Back to Arians... the only time I felt he was too conservative was on the 4th & 1, that turned into a 4 & 6, that turned into a missed FG attempt. We should've went for the score on that 4th &1.... However, I'd blame officiating, injuries, Manusky and Vinatieri (in that order) before I blame Arians for this loss.

I was thrilled to see Arians call more outside runs and off-tackle runs. For some reason it looks like the O-line flows better going east-west than north-south. The RB's have been very productive on those runs. I would like to see more to the other side though. He's rarely called runs like that to the right side. Its slowly getting better and I was very pleased with the O-line's pass protection yesterday. Luck was given quite a bit of time to throw, and it seemed like he was rushing a little. I think a lot of that was because he's used to the O-line collapsing much faster.

I know Donald was a little shaky the first game with it, but Arians needs to get him some more screens/catches out of the backfield. He's so dangerous in the open field.

That whole 4th&1 scenario was weird. The refs took so long to spot the ball, the offense didn't really have any idea whether they got the first down or what and the play clock was still moving. The FG unit got out there pretty late and on top of that, I'm not so sure Adam missed that FG. It seemed to me the ball was over the outside of the goal-post.

  10. You only mention the starters.

We are going with three rookies.

Of that, only Hilton has looked pretty good so far.

Brazil and Adams may turn out to be decent in a few years? But so far they havent shown much.

We need to have a better option now that Collie is out.

Lets not also forget about Fleener and Allen. Along with Brazill and Adams, that's 7 guys. The only way I can see bringing a guy in is one that can immediately be an impact player because just like Adams and Brazill right now, they would be caught up in the numbers game.

  11. You know what Remedy, that's a really good point.

The Colts played a Cover 2 on that play which kinda opens up the middle of the field. It's either the cornerback stops the receiver or it's a touchdown and that was the case here. Sergio Brown didn't pick up the slot receiver like he was suppose to and that's why he beat him down the middle.

So here's what I agree on. They should have played a more containing defense. Maybe not a prevent because a field goal does win the game for the Jags, but a Cover 4 would have been perfect. Get the DBs back and have the backers in coverage too. It's not like MJD is going to get the ball.

So yes, the Cover 2 was wrong here and they should have played a more containing defense. The Colts wanted to play for the incompletion instead of the short/medium completion.

Bethea is equally to blame for this. As the deep safety, he has to contain the middle of the field. He bit on a route by a receiver who was 20 yards away from him, in which Powers had completely covered. That took Bethea right out of position and Shorts goes right by him on the inside. As much as I hate to say this, but that was a good throw by Gabbert and an even better catch by Shorts. Had Bethea been in position, that pass is either an INT, broken up, or at the very least a tackle for Bethea. I expect Brown to do that due to his inexperience. I, however, am disappointed at Bethea for not helping out an inexperienced defender and blowing his coverage in which he's normally excellent at.

  12. that's quite the vision you have there seeing his eyes from your couch.....

It is pretty obvious. The guy plays just like Ben Utecht did, but just happens to be WAY more athletic. I got so frustrated watching Utecht(250lbs) wilt when a 190lb DB came running at him. Take the hit, its going to happen. Dwayne Allen thrives for contact and he's catching pretty much everything. Its all mental for Fleener right now and once he gets past that he will be fine.

  13. Our receivers are not that good.

We do need to bring another in now.

Seriously?? PLEASE tell me who the Colts could bring in that would automatically be an upgrade to what we have now....

The receivers are fine.. I would play Hilton and Avery on the outsides to force the safety's to play deeper due to their speed. Play Reggie in the slot and let him take advantage of the LB's and nickel backs.

  14. Really?Ever heard of tony ugoh or ben Ilijana?

?? Ugoh has been gone for almost 3 years now. Ijalana has played well when he's not been hurt, but its very unfortunate that he has been because he would have been a huge upgrade at RG or RT.

  15. The 3 -4 idea is totally a stupid concept with what the colts have, That will cost the Colts a ton of games. Time for a new coach now!!!!

Hmm.. On the play the Colts got burned on, for the TD, they were running a 4-2-5 (2DT/2DE, 2LB's, 5DB's) or basically their nickel package. They weren't in their 3-4 scheme at that time. The 3-4 is fine and actually suits the skillset of this team better. Had Vontae not been hurt, he would have been out there and not Sergio Brown and I highly doubt Gabbert even looks that way. On top of that it was Bethea who blew that coverage. If he plays in the middle of the field, where he should have been, that is either an INT or incompletion.

  16. What annoyed me the most is that they were calling the Colts for anything on PI and yet they would let things go for the Jags. I am not saying the Colts weren't guilty of their PIs because they were but if you are going to call one team for it then you need to call it on the other team too when they do it.

The call that bothered me the most was the clear miss on Luck when slide down and the Jags player came in and gave him a cheap hit. That bothers me the most because it was the one that had the best chance of hurting our QB. With that said I've seen these problems with the regular refs too.

Vontae's first PI call against him was right. The second one was just bad. He stiff armed the guy right off the line and then proceeded to run with the receiver right down the sideline. No hold, no hinderance of the route, nothing.. yet got called for PI. The refs just aren't consistent in what they are calling.

As far as losing the game and blaming the refs? I don't blame the refs because the Colts had the lead when it was time to put the ball in Gabberts hands and up until that point the guy did absolutely nothing. Bethea completely blew the coverage and allowed the receiver to streak right down the middle of the field where HE should have been. Bethea is better than that, especially knowing that Brown would probably need more help than Powers. He played it wrong, however even the best screw up. I'm sure he goes back and sees he just can't leave the middle of the field exposed like that. He's human...

The second thing that hurts is trying to sit on a lead. We had this issue with Dungy. You've got to put your foot on their throat or you're going to end up losing. They almost did it against the Vikings and clearly did it here. 1st half looked great and they need to keep that momentum going. Up 14-3 and getting the ball back at the half? You go for the kill.

  17. I undertand where you're going. However, Vontae and Jerraud are actually good corners. Tim was ok and Jason was just plain bad. Those that are bashing our corners from todays game OBVIOUSLY didn't watch the game. Had Bethea played the middle of the field like he was supposed to on that 80 yard play, this wouldn't even be a discussion.

  18. Tim Jennings, no doubt, suffered from the extemely soft Cover-2 the Colts ran, as opposed to the more aggressive version the Bears use. However, in the 3 years here he just never seemed to adjust and was constantly picked on.

Jason David was GARBAGE, lain and simple. He's one of the few that I have EVER seen get beat deep playing off the ball like he did. Undersized and wasn't fast at all. There was no surprise who Peyton targeted David when they played the Saints in 07', David's first year with them, and David got burnt for 3 long TD's by Harrison and Wayne.

  19. The only thing I could think of there is that he just didn't see him in the sun. Either way he knew it was a poor throw as soon as he made it you could tell by his reaction. My guess is he wont make that mistake again. I would like to say this I love hustle as much as next person but Andrew leave the tackling to your teammates lol.

I was thinking the same thing with the sun. I think the open roof is a nice feature for the stadium but honestly they need to keep the thing shut. It looked like he lost where Reggie was and Reggie had the secondary beat badly.
