  1. Complete nonsense.

    In what way?

Irsay loses nothing by intimating his interest for Luck and gains everything. It's exactly what he has to say. If he were to announce his intention to trade the pick it might reduce his leverage. The way Irsay is playing the game teams have to bring something big just to get his attention and bring him to the table. They have to up the offer just to initiate the negotiations.

  2. James was still the safer choice as Williams has baby sized hands.

Luck is the safer pick over RG3 because RG3 somewhat of a project, shorter, tends to run under pressure more, less cerebral, more likely to get injured, tends to hold onto the ball too long, isn't as good at ball placement when throwing.

I definitely agree that Luck is the better prospect and safer pick given what information is available Just making the point that in the end we as fans don't know who personnel people are really drooling over until it's time to make the picks.

Polian not only passed on the supposedly better prospect (Williams) but he didn't bother trading down to do so. That really spoke volumes to James' true value. If/when the Colts take Luck it'll say alot about his true value as well.

  3. RG3 definitely could be a better QB then Luck. I just don't think many people would be willing to bet on it. I think the advantage RG3 has for us is we could trade down, get our project potential superstar QB, and get other pieces as well.

What I don't get is why does what the Colts do now on offense matter in what QB we choose? Once Manning goes we could run the wishbone if we wanted to. Chris Polian already chased away the coordinators that matter, without Manning this offense is pointless. Luck might be able to run it, but who could implement it and teach it to him?

  4. I think Irsay is giving any potential incoming GM their dream scenario. What available GM job could possibly be more desirable then one where you have the top pick in the draft in a year with apparently the most coveted QB prospect in years available for the taking (or trading), one of the greatest QBs of all time already on the roster and under contract, and free reign to remake an entire coaching staff.

Irsay should have his pick among available GMs, unless he plans to take the job himself.

  5. See, thats the thing that i cant figure out...while i would rather trade the #1 for the slew of picks that we would get in return (in a very deep draft at positions of need)...

IF we ARE going to take a QB, then i would want it to be Luck. Why on earth would the "Luck haters" want us to trade the pick if we are still going to use our first pick on a QB? If we trade the pick, i would much rather use our top picks to address areas of need, and then either take a QB next year or later in the draft...but if we are going to take a QB with our first pick, by all means, i would rather us take the best one available, namely Luck

Lucks primary benefit over RG3 and others is that experts predict him to be the most "NFL ready" prospect to start on day 1 this year. If the QB we draft won't start anyway that benefit is lost to us. We can afford to trade down and either grab a QB like RG3 a little lower or draft Barkley or someone similar next year while adding players to the roster who can potentially make an immediate impact now and further down the road.

Is anybody here seriously suggesting RG3 over Luck @ #1 right now? RG3 is considered a top talent and likely high first round selection as of today by most experts. Expert opinion is the main reason fans think Luck should be #1 overall. Why should we selectively disregard the experts when it applies to RG3?

  6. if manning can't play. would you give up this years 1st & 2nd, 2013 1st & 2nd, and 2014 1st to get the 1st pick this year?

this is what so many seem to think the colts should get from other teams for the 1st pick.

I hope we don't give up 5 potential longterm starters for one potential longterm starter. I'd love it if we were in position to make that trade ourselves. Three straight first round picks from the Rams would make us mighty.

  7. I don't think Manning will restructure. He's saying all the right things publicly, but that 28 million dollar clause is there to give him leverage. The Colts will be forced to start him, release him, or trade him on Peytons terms. I don't see any teams picking in the top 10 being on Mannings wish list. My hope is they keep Manning and let Washington or Miami draft Luck while we grab one of the other 2 or three potential pro bowl QBs in this draft.

If Peyton goes to Miami he's not going to handicap them by making them give up a high draft pick.

    1. Jacob Lacey

    2. Chris Rucker

    3. Joe Lefeged

    4. Jerry Hughes

    5. Curtis Painter

What do you guys think? Agree with any of those players? Feel like some were left out? etc..

While I agree with this post in spirit, imagine how bad the guys who can't even get on the field are. Lefeged and Lacey wouldn't be so bad if they weren't forced to play above their abilities. As nickel/dime players they'd be fine. They just happen to be iffy starters.

  9. I like RG3 because it makes sense to draft a raw(er) qb we can develop since they probably won't play much the first few years.

Lucks chief selling point right now in what looks like the strongest QB draft in years is his NFL readiness. If he's not going to play that advantage over the other QBs is gone and guys like RGIII, Barkley, Jones make alot of sense. Especially if we can stockpile additional picks while getting our QB of the future.

We'll see what happens when these guys go under the microscope, Luck may nail it down as a can't miss prospect, RG3 may surpass Luck etc. They haven't even played their last bowl game yet.
