I still go with number 2, there is always a risk, but I feel there is a better upside and chance with Luck over other QB's we take at some point which the Colts will have to do.
So basically you'd rather draft a bust then lose an argument on the internet? Way to lock yourself in on the punchline.

Seriously.....I really hope people have more class then that. Management is fully aware of the fan's feelings regarding this situation......they simply don't care. Caldwell doesn't have a lot to work with here.....the majority of our players simply aren't that good.
I respectfully disagree. He's got Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball. If he wants to stop the boo birds and people calling for his job he needs to start winning games and soon.

Playoffs?
Don't talk about playoffs!

We can't do diddly poo offensively.
-
We've been outscored by 72 points in the last two games. Haven't won a game in 11 months.
-
The defense has never been very good anyway, I don't see the harm in trying to change scheme. The only guy we absolutely NEED is Freeney and I think he could be successful in any defense as long as his special skill set is taken advantage of. Hard to imagine starting over from scratch would make us any worse. We're already 32nd in points and 31st in yardage.

Don't forget we're in the AFC south and they're in the east. It's possible that 3 teams could have winning records in their division. Not so likely in this division. We just need to cross our fingers and hope we can manage to lose to the Jags twice.
-
Knowing that at 0-16 Caldwell may still be employed.
-
We had MANNING!
Exactly. And now that this teams inadequacies are exposed for the world to see we have an opportunity to fix things.
-
No but if you drive a ferrari, don't complain when it drives poorly cuz you put 87 octane gas in it.
We have a beat-up non-gelling OL, a very suspect defensive backfield, injuries on the DL, and totally crappy special teams. Not to mention the key part (Manning) upon which ALL other parts of the team rely is on the sidelines.
What do you expect? Belichek couldn't get any more out of this team.
Its fine to complain cuz you don't like the output, but use some logic in your complaints.....PLEASE.
Oline hasn't gelled since Tarik Glenn retired. Didn't stop us from winning the division every single year. No real way to know for sure, but I'd beat an elite coach would have this team at 4-4. 0-8 is pathetic.
We've been outscored 89-17 in the last 2 games. Maybe some of that can be explained by injuries but it looks like the players are quitting and that has to be on the coach.

He was a starter on a Super Bowl winner when the defense started showing up in the playoffs that year. That alone gives Morris a pass in my book.
-
Have you seen us play? What makes you think we need to take a dive to lose?
Seriously. If we tanked, who would know?
-
I don't think anybody is a "hater" of luck, he's clearly the top prospect in next years draft and will probably be a good player. Many of would just rather trade him for a bunch of potentially good starters rather then get a really nice bench warmer for a few years/ probable good starter. If we even end up in a situation to draft him.
-
I think the way we end up with Luck is if we get the first overall pick AND noone is willing to make a massive deal for him. Given all the crazy out of control hype I think the second part of the equation is unlikely to occur.
-
I also disagree on Marlin being a miss. He was an almost ideal corner for our system but his career was disrupted by injuries.

barry switzer
Switzer was actually a successful college coach. Caldwell was 26–63 with one victory in the famed and prestigious Aloha Bowl. So he's actually got less going for him then Switzer did when he got canned/"resigned". Also, Switzer won his Super Bowl.
-
A good coach should never lose 62-7 on primetime TV. I call it Caldwells Law, and I expect it to pass the test of time.

It's also possible that some of us have assessed the situation as best we can and decided what we think the issue is and the best way to solve it. The fact that it might happen to be in the majority opinion does not necessary make one a member of a mindless horde as you seem to suggest.

No wai. It's not that the team quit in one of the poorest showings in the history of Sunday Night Football or that this fail came on the heels of a 6 game losing streak. We just don't like to think for ourselves apparently.
Seriously, I've got nothing personal against Caldwell but what has he really done to inspire such loyalty? The team has acheived a progressively weaker finish every season since he took over, he's made a rash of very questionable calls in his short tenure, he's painfully conservative, and predictably risk averse on every down and situation.
-
That sounds suspiciously like a vote of confidence to me. :rules:
-
He does throw very pretty passes to wide open receivers at Stanford though...
Nobody knows whether Luck can play in the NFL or not..

If the decision is he gets his walking papers at the end of the season, why not just go ahead and fire him now? I mean really what is the point of having a lame duck HC on teh side lines if you have no faith in him?

Suck fer luck?

It makes ALOT more sense. Manning is more valuable to us then other teams right now due to his age and time in what amounts to his own personalized system. Luck is valuable to any team that needs a QB right now.
Play him if Manning is done, otherwise hold him hostage to the highest bidder.
-
With Manning back and healthy and a fourth place schedule I'll expect us to win the division next season. The defense was just as crappy the last several years but Manning can answer point for point.
-
I think appointing Tressel is a pretty decent idea. Get a trial run to see if he can right the ship. If not we know to look at other options.

How bad will it be if we can't even win at sucking?

Gruden should be eliminated from consideration for giving Manning the worst nickname evAr.
I swear he's the only one who calls him 'the sheriff' and I cringe every time he says it (typically 18ish times per broadcast).
That said he built something pretty good with the Raiders, Callahan basically took the team Gruden built to the Super Bowl, where the Gruden Bucs smashed them. Raiders fell to pieces afterwards.
