  1. I can say maybe Tony Gonzalez, Gates, Witten (and now recently Jermichael Finley, Graham and the Pats TEs) have the capability to get open like Clark vs a safety or LB and can make key 3rd down catches. Soft hands - I would have to say Gonzalez, Gates and Clark lead the pack.

There are a lot of receiving TEs that can make catches when they are wide open but Clark is one of the few that can catch it in traffic better than most. The 2006 playoff run and onwards, he has shown a consistent ability to do that.

No doubt. It didn't impress in the stat column, but that one handed one yard catch off a pitifully thrown Collins pass against the Texans was a thing of beauty. He makes adjustments like an elite wide receiver, and that's been a huge part of this teams success the last few years.

  2. This is a passing league. Several of the top TEs in the league are decent blockers, but I don't think any of them are so much better then Clark as a blocker that they could be asked to block Harrison or Mario Williams one on one with any success. He's been playing hurt and put into some very bad positions by poor protections.

  3. I like Angerer alot better in the middle then outside. At this point I hope they keep the Conner, Angerer, Wheeler starting lineup for the rest of the season.

Agree with Superman on playing Brackett in the nickel. Brackett has really exceptional cover skills for the position, I'm just not sure if that's what the defense needs in an every down player right now.

  4. Bottom line to me is that for the first time this season we played the traditional hurry up, adjust at the line style offense we've been accustomed to for the last decade plus. I don't know if he can execute, but Painter clearly has a superior grasp of the offense compared to Collins.

Play Painter and let Collins keep studying the playbook for now.

  5. Of course you expect more out of the 1st and 2nd rounders, but by drafting someone, even in the late rounds, you want and expect to at least have some sort of impact, and/or provide depth on the team. That's why they use a pick on you. Im not saying that the 1st and 2nd rounders have the same expectations as the 7th rounders, but they have some sort of expectation for them, right?

I think the expectation for a 7th rounder is hey, maybe this guy will make the squad. Anything more is gravy. It'd be nice if all the guys made it, but the average NFL career is only 3.3 years and 7th round picks definitely play a role in that number being so low.

  6. The simple truth is this is basically the same team that took us to the playoffs last year, only significantly healthier. The o-line is different, but it's no worse. The only significant difference is Manning being gone.

That said I still think this team can get it together and win some games. We were dominated almost as bad last year against the Texans in game 1. In the end it was us that won the division.

  7. To say the d was better in the 2nd half is laughable, when your up 34-0 you tend to let down.Because the game was over.

Agreed. The Texans took their foot off our throats (like they always do) but this time we didn't have Manning to attempt the usual heroics.

Still, lots of blowouts this week. We got caught in a buzzsaw with the Texans this week, lets see if the team can bounce back. :coltshelmet:

  8. I kind of get what you mean. I'd rather have had Manning set the consecutive starts record and put it so far out of reach noone could ever touch it. That's not going to happen now, so might as well hope for the best.

Personally I'm a bit more optimistic. This season may well prove me wrong, but at this point I'd take Collins with two weeks of practice over Mcown and Hasselbeck, especially considering the talent Collins has around him. If it doesn't work out and we go 0-16, well, at least it proves Manning is :goat: . WE CAN'T LOSE!!! rotfl

  9. No, I think we're on the same page.

I was more responding to the idea that trading up to get Andrew Luck is in any significant way similar to Green Bay getting Rodgers. If memory serves Alex Smith was the number 1 overall that year. Just think if the Packers had taken the OP advice they might be starting Alex Smith at QB. I wasn't very clear because I probably was not very sober.

  10. Rodgers didn't go No.1 overall. We should do what we always do and take the best available player on the board. If that happens to be QB then I'm all for it, if not I'm not worried. No way should the Colts worry about trading up unless this season falls apart and we're already in the top 5. With the new rookie salaries and all the Andrew Luck hype the No.1 overall pick has probably never had higher trade value. pacolts has the right idea on this.
