  1. So why is Christian Ponder one of the worst? I'd like a good explanation. The guy's a rookie who just made his first NFL start vs. the Packers and did pretty darn well.

So why is Christian Ponder one of the worst? I'd like a good explanation. The guy's a rookie who just made his first NFL start vs. the Packers and did pretty darn well.

To be fair, I would've agreed with him before the game today.  Shocking how much better he was then McNabb.

Lets not leave out Kevin Klob.  He can't get it done with one of the best Wrs in the game.  Blaine Gabbert QBs the worst passing offense in the league.  Possibly Colt McCoy.  Lots of competition at the bottom.

  2. I still think the Colts would trade Luck given the opportunity. With all of the out of control hype his value will be through the roof. How could we not trade him? Stockpiling some picks and getting a few new starters on both sides of the ball > Getting a short term benchwarmer/possible long term answer at QB.

  3. Brady hasn't had a good defense since '06, and even then it was old and falling apart.

Tell me, in 2006 when the Colts FINALLY beat the Patriots in a meaningful game, who were Brady's weapons on offense?

So what you're saying is that Brady hasn't won a SB since his defense fell apart. You've convinced me, Manning is better.

  4. Someones head will roll for the way we've been playing this season, particularly if we keep losing. The Polians could fall on their swords for Caldwell, but does anyone really expect them to? Caldwell may not be a great coach, but he makes for a mighty fine scapegoat.

  5. Well it is titled as "PM vs TB," in case you didn't notice.

Are you reading responses or are you too fired up to think?

The fact that the Patriots went 11-5 in 2008 without Brady and the fact that the Colts are currently win-less without Manning means ab-so-lute-ly nothing in this discussion.

    Different season.

    Different rosters.

    Different teams.

    Different coaches.

If Manning and Brady had the same exact team around them, playing the same schedule, with the same coaching staff, then it's relevant. But how the 2008 Patriots did without Brady versus how the 2011 Colts are doing without Manning is - from virtually every possible angle - a completely meaningless comparison.

Like I said before, you or anyone else could come up with 100 different reasons to say Manning is better. Comparing '08 and this year is just not one of them.

I don't think it's the end of the argument but it's certainly a valid point of discussion. The only significant difference between the Colts this year and last year is no Manning. Winless. What major upgrade did the Patriots make in 08 to mitigate the loss of Brady in a 10 win season? It's almost like the situation was designed in a laboratory to make the comparison.

  6. Last 10 superbowl winners:

    Green Bay

    New Orleans

    Steelers

    Giants

    Colts

    Steelers

    Patriots

    Patriots

    Bucs

    Patriots

Of those 10, only ONE had a Quarterback that was fit into an offensive scheme after that fact. The rest have Franchise top notch QB's already in place. So it looks as if my inclination that you START with the Quarterback in this NFL is the way to go my friend. The proof is in the championship pudding.

How many of those QBs went No. 1 overall? Brees, Brady, Johnson weren't even first rounders.

No player drafted is EVER a sure thing. I think that's why so many people like the idea of trading for multiple picks rather then putting all our eggs in one basket by drafting a long term starter at a position of strength. By the time Luck would take a snap Freeney, Mathis, Saturday, Bethea, Wayne, Clark etc. will likely be gone or fading. Even if Luck is great, he's not going to have the core of players that Manning has been able to win with.

If we were able to find a shutdown corner we could roll more coverage to protect Powers or Lacey or whoever and our defense gets a whole lot more flexible and maybe wins us some games in the near term and helps us reload for the long haul.
