    I hope not!

Gore is better than Hyde, and I'd rather have Crowell from the Browns since they are probably picking Barkley.

they are the Browns, yes , they will take Barkley and then gamble on the QB at 4.  no one wants to go to the browns because of the organization in general, the cold - wind - and misery there.  So just like every year, the Browns will fumble the ball and choose Barkley (yes he's probably going to be great), but it's the Browns, so he will only be good there.  And again, the ball gets away and the Browns will be the Browns.

I would trade down for  nelson once barkley and chubb go 1 and 2 perhaps. Colts phone be ringing off the hook from denver or jets who need qb. If luck is having ongoing issues, easy call for qb at 3.

or you could do what the '83 Colts did, Draft and trade, neigh!, neigh!     ;)

"Which is better - putting all your eggs in the "3rd pick basket" and risking a massive bust, or... trading out of that high-risk spot and picking up several good picks?"

nice one.  Here's his answer, "Look, since it's apparent Cleveland might now take Barkley and the Giants would then take Chubb or visa-versa, that is one direction we might go (trading out), but those two players are not high risk. The third pick also is not high risk if we take Nelson, so that's what we might do.  However, if we have the chance to take Barkley or Chubb, we will do that in a heartbeat, as remote as those chances are after this weekend's combine. Barkely was off the charts spectacular and stole the combine & Chubb had the 5th best 40-time of D-linemen and hit a homer with other drills. I have inside people everywhere and I am completely tuned into who is doing what.  Lastly, if some disturbing news comes my way with regard to Andrew Luck prior to the April 26th draft in Dallas, I would be looking at Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold, no questions asked.  Look, we're going to do what's best for this team, no one person makes this team, we feel blessed to be in the position we're in."

EDIT: well, maybe not so much (underline above) ---> 7.37 3-cone drill, ugh (how bout we snag Sam Hubbard top of round 2 and use our 3rd pick on Nelson)

Lets not forget who else is coming back, #29 hooker! So excited to see what he can do. He, t.y. And luck are going to tear some sh%% up next year!

do you know what his prognosis is as far as when this summer he would be healthy enough to do OTA's or other practices?

I think the Giants will pick him.

Totally agree.  It's incredible how he can cut back to the other direction on a dime at light speed and make so many d-lineman whiff, it's a gift, a quasi barry sanders type freakish thing.  His east west alone are off the charts but his north south speed is scary, he can jump over people too.  Let's just be thankful that he's not going to be on an opposing AFC South team, very thankful.  Can you imagine our current defense trying to catch him?

Chubb isnt a game changer. He is another werner. Nelson would be the better pick if barkley is gone

WERNER, no!!!! that is not Chubb at all.  Werner types only come around once every few years and are only drafted by over-rated GMs that act bigger than the draft room.  Werner was a lemon, a Trent Richardson.  He came as a nasty curve-ball and we swung and missed.

I kinda think If we lose out on Barkley Ballard may think the playmaker os gone. So lets trade down and get more picks. I think he may pass on Chubb and Definitely pass on Nelson at #3. Depending on what he doesn't get in FA he may address in rounds 1 & 2.

he might, you could be right (pass on Chubb), but if he doesn't Chubb, Barkley & Nelson all first game starters.  I'm not sure how far we have to go down in the draft where the Mendoza line is (1st game starters vs. projects), but it would be nice to see some stats on the last 20 drafts of time-line of first 20 picks as far as when they started producing (if they started producing) because any way you slice this up, i don't think we pick below 20 in the first round.

He won't be there....Thanks Pagano..No way Browns and Giants are both dumb enough , 1 maybe, both no..It sucks, but it is increasingly becoming reality..

Correct.  Looks like Giants take him.  The guy that was a guest on THE HERD indicated that he had inside the club info on Giants and that if Barkley is there at 2, Giants absolutely take him, no questions asked.  So Cleveland goes QB ,  Giants go Barkley, Colts go Chubb (cam jordan clone?, perhaps!!)...unless a deal is struck at the 11th hour and we trade down to get the best player in the draft Nelson and other picks assuming someone has an eye on Chubb or another qb likely to get snagged early.  If Barkley is avail. at 3 (not probable), it would have to be a blockbuster of a deal to not take Barkley.  So let's not set our sights on Barkley, or rather, let's look at it this way....Barkley is the impulsive sexy pick, since he won't be there, it actually favors the Colts in that, we fill a MAJOR void with either a pass-rusher, or marquee Offensive Guard probable first year pro-bowler.  We really can't go wrong and I don't think Ballard will let us.  We need blocking b4 a running back (or qb) can succeed.  In other words, if we get Nelson, that means we struck a deal and rec'd another good pick, Barkley was gone, and we didn't think Chubb outweighed a sweet deal. (and yes, I'm having to make the assumption that Nelson is still there where we trade down to)

Did he coach Chubb in college? If so, that could be a deciding point. As long as we cover our bases as far as the O-Line goes, I'll go along with Chubb. There's a whole FA and Draft to build around him.

nope, he did not.  if we could somehow build D with Chubb and snag a top-rung free agent (Norwell), get some linebacker free agents, and another or two o-lineman steals in the draft, could be good.

TCB balls are not just for hitting. A lot of people use them for throwing.

They probably are using more sophisticated balls. It is along the same line of thinking though. TCB balls are not cheap.

Didn't realize, they kind of feel like molasses inside but its like a combo of sand and goo or something.  No, TCB's are certainly not cheap, i have a bucket of them.

I think we'll attempt to do things differently this time. Our team is pretty bare right now with very few playmakers. Luck isn't in Manning's league, never has been and probably never will be. He can't carry the team. I think Irsay, Ballard, and Reich all know that we have to build a team around him. The draft will say a lot about which direction we go. Nelson gets us that elite O-Lineman we desperately need, Barkley gets us the elite RB Luck never had to take pressure off him, and Chubb gives the beginning of a pass rush that could give us a formidable defense. FA will affect our choice, but Ballard will essentially be choosing our destiny and the Colts identity by whichever pick we take at no3, or possibly by trading down in the draft.

We won't copy the previous regime, not only is Luck 6 years into his career already, but we don't even have an offense around him. When the whole team is healthy, the defense is probably better as a unit now and more talented. I think Barkley is the right choice as BPA, but for need I see us trading down for Nelson and acquiring more picks to make us a complete team. That's the philosophy I see Ballard having with this team. Lots of impact players with a balanced approach.

Good thoughts. That 3rd pick could help define Ballard's career as well.   Also, I wonder if Matt E Pluribus Unum will want to draft Bradley Chubb?

When I think of weighted balls, I am thinking the weighted baseballs I use with my son. They helped build up his arm strength and also helped him hit with power. I attribute using these weighted balls as an important reason he made the all star team and continues to make it every year.

If I am right, and Luck is using these weighted baseballs then you do not want to throw these with everything you have. They are intended to lightly toss around. My son and I only tossed these back and forth about 5-10 yards or so. And we make sure to have an easy throwing motion while doing so. This much weight can seriously hurt your arm if you try to sling it.

    These are what we use.

TCB balls are good but they are mainly used for hitting, they won't damage the bat and they won't go sailing on you, they will go about a normal 1/2 acre back yard's worth of distance for a middle to high school player.  but they deform and absorb impact.  weighted throwing balls are like the following going from like 7 oz. to 12 oz.  I'm thinking they are using much more sophisticated weighted balls that cost more than my iphone.

  14. A lot happens before the April 26th draft.  Other things have to play out first.

    2018 NFL Important Dates

    • Franchise/Transition tag period opens: February 20
    • NFL Scouting Combine: February 27 - March 5
    • Franchise/Transition tag period ends: March 6
    • Legal Tampering period: March 12-14
    • Free agency and trading begins: March 14, 4pm ET
    • Annual league meeting: March 25-28
    • Teams with new head coaches may start offseason training programs: April 2
    • Teams with returning head coaches may start offseason training programs: April 16
    • Deadline for RFAs to sign offer sheets: April 20
    • NFL Draft: April 26-28

if you keep the 3 pick, it has to be a franchise player or someone who becomes one.  you draft a guard at #3 if he is a specimen with the likes of which the league hasn't seen in 4 to 5 years (even then you might pass that up).  Or trade down to get more picks, size up the top 10 teams' selections, then snag Nelson at 11ish, which is your possible new draft position.  But first, let's see how the above milestone dates play out. You make good points in your post for sure. But everything could change.

JShipp had the best post here saying that people have til March 8th to renew their season tickets. After that, if Luck needs surgery, that's when he'll get it, so Irsay doesn't lose money. If Luck is indeed fine, then we'll just hear updates as normal. Again, unless there's a definitive statement saying one way or the other, I think the draft will be the ultimate teller on Luck's health. If he is fine, I think Ballard will keep it hush-hush to avoid giving any strategy away. However, if Luck does need surgery, I don't see how we hide it until after the draft and we would be very vulnerable to getting QB's snagged at 1 and/or 2. Especially by the Browns who pick 1 and 4, and would realize they have to pick a QB at in that situation now to get their QB if Luck indeed was done.

If the above bolded is the case, it would be the craftiest & biggest covert operation the Colts have probably undertaken to date.  I mean there are people snapping shots of him on an LA beach.  I think it would be impossible for Ballard to keep this under wraps with all the Colts paparazzi on the beat.
