Ugh Matt is so monotoned during the game, yuck

Yes, he is like the Purdue announcer of yester-lore.....can't think of his name but he was not good. had kind of a nasal voice.  McConnell I'm thinking.  Lamey was grand for our Colts, yes he over-reached on many calls before he knew the true outcome, but you can't take away his overwhelming "homer-ness" which endeared him to many...he was the first off the plane high-fiving fans after coming back from the San Diego playoff win and also the first off the plane to high-five disheartened fans at the airport after the heart-wrenching Pittsburgh playoff loss.  Class Act, you will be missed.

Holder was solid. I know he's taken a stand against the corporation that owns the Star, doesn't surprise me he's leaving.

I wonder if Mike Wells is affected. I definitely prefer Holder's work, though Wells seems okay on a personal level. If Holder is leaving the Colts beat, it's a major loss for us fans, IMO.

Totally agree.  I would like to at least hear his takes on the Colts from time to time, if he's off of the beat.  I thought he handled the Dakich attacks very professionally and did not overbearingly counter-punch nor did he succumb to them.

I am huge Nebraska fan, that is my team in college. Started liking them as a young kid because they were always on TV and really good in the mid 80's and continued to be dominant for a long time. Unfortunately I agree with you about Trev. He was a monster when he played for the Huskers and I thought at worse he would at least be Good in the Pro's, well he wasn't, he stunk.

if memory serves,  Butkus  award and consensus all-american -- i remember him playing injured in a bowl game and coming up huge even in the loss (i think they lost to florida or fsu ).  you must have loved his hustle , he seemed to be all over the place.  sometimes players dont translate over to NFL very well and he's a good example, he did have some injuries, but he also admitted (to someone or to interviews) that he was just not cut out for NFL and the speed and violence of the game sealed the deal for him.  some would argue he had a bad-hair day and bolted, and then on espn he didn't show up for work one day because he felt upstaged by the college game-day crew.  none of that reflects negatively on Nebraska, just on what he became AFTER nebraska.  had he stuck it out for the colts, i think he would have had more street-cred and been a part of the highly paid Game-Day crew or part of NFL broadcasts, etc.  thats pretty presumptuous on my part however.

I saw him get beat several times. His punch was missing, he got off balance and even got over powered on one pass play. They're all in the video above.

It's not surprising, we all knew his run blocking was head of his pass protection. I also don't think he's flawed, all of those issues are very correctable.

Edit: Play #3 at 0:12 is the worst play of the night for him, IMO.

Yea, that one was a total whiff and could have gotten the QB hurt.  Didn't happen, but could have and that will have to immediately get addressed.  If he were to have at least got in the path, it would have slowed the progress a little bit, but a whiff ends in huge loss of yards or worse. We can compare the Monday Night game to this one and see if this continues in Pass Pro.

Could also take a shot at HOF Terrell Owens.

T.O. would play for the Colts but would play at an alternate site while the rest of the team would play at Lucas Oil Stadium. He would be presented with and wear the same Colts Jersey as everyone else and would act as though he is part of the team.

    How is that a given?

From accounts, he was impressive at his ability to go up and get balls, a knack, uncanny ability.  So that's where I'm coming from,,, If someone else is going to be 3 , there will be a drop-off.  I'd think we would at least be on the look-out for someone.

I went to the Texans/Colts Game in Houston back in November of 2013. It was the game where Case Keenum debuted and put the Texans up huge early, only for Luck and Hilton to come back and tear them to shreds. I will say most of the fans were very classy, and complimentary of Luck.

    was that the heart-attack game?

Luck looked good, but in regular season we’d have to put up like 80 points to win the game!

Ballard will watch the tape, things will get fixed.  We need to replace Cain somehow,,,isn't going to happen from within, that's a given.  Defensive juggernaut we are not,,,,but then again, have we ever been?

I also would like to add that This is a preseason game you guys!! so just because Luck doesn't connect on a deep pass, finds some way to throw an int or none of our RB's even break out for a 50 to 75 yard run doesn't mean our offense sucks!! it just means we've still got lots of work to do before regular season. so please no whining be happy  Go Colts!!

The first quarter of tonight's game is called the relaunch,  the rest you can call preseason.

Nice Ken Burns documentary filmmaker diary entry there Chris. The only thing missing is the background music. You know, a hauntingly moving composition on violin. Here we go. Problem solved:

Well played, brings each word spoken to the forefront with eerie somberness & sadness combined, and at the same time an appreciation for well composed music which lay beneath a masterpiece of Ken Burns' writings. Thanks for pairing these up!  They really need one another.

  11. Dear Mother and family,

I will take the pensile to let you know we are alright. We have seen the greatest commandant heading to the west and pass through our shadow. A messenger in this hero's company has informed us of the great Colonel Luck and of an injury he sustained in battle, but this most noble of warriors has overcome the worst and is now preparing to battle the Hawks who swarm by the sea, well behind us. They have the tallest of odds so we wish him and his Regiment's company, the greatest of outcome. My commander has bestowed the kindest of wishes forthwith and on behalf of our sum.  After assembling hardy weaponry, we continue our volunteer journey back eastward to the great war. We are within a fortnight. Please favor me and feed the chickens extra cornmeal the night of your read.  I long for my return to Madison.

Speaking of the Jags, anyone wanna watch Jalen Ramsey intercept Bortles while covering Moncrief, then punt the ball into the air afterward?  Moncrief giving his usual effort...

Thanks for sharing Lucky, now get a load of this  ----> WTH ---->  "While Moncrief's fully guaranteed $9.6 million contract might seem to give him the edge for a starting job"

Whaaa?  Must read very short article regarding Gregg Doyel's favorite player ever (TIC), posted earlier today

Wells is not in position to trade Swoope, so his opinion does not make Swoope a trade candidate.

Only if Chris Ballard wants to trade him, would Swoope become a trade candidate.

Good point.  I doubt he makes any moves? But if Ballard does anything at all (to acquire players, not picks) as teams trim rosters, does it show desperation all of the sudden? knowing that he has stood pat, for the most part, during FA?  Or does he have something up his sleeve?  He seems like a guy that wants locker room continuity and added somebody this late would just simply not be his style.

  14. Are we that far behind them?  Wow, Bortles vs. Luck.   How important is a QB?  I know this ranking was already released and discussed in this forum, but it has shifted a bit here and there with this new poll (below), we haven't moved and we really haven't given them a reason to move us. By the time we play the Jags, where will we and they be ranked? (11/11/18)

ESPN(Mike Wells) has released a list of possible trade targets and Erik Swoope is on it

I hope we get some value for him.  I would agree with the trade in principal be it that we are loaded at that position. I'd love it if we just kept him because the more he learns, the harder he is going to be to defend.

How/Why is Honolulu part of the Colts TV Network

NFLN will also have tape delayed broadcast but you are not guaranteed Colts announcers

I'm sure it has to do with filling a block of time with Fox programming since they are part of the MyNetworkTV, which is an American television network/syndication service that is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group division of 21st Century Fox, operated by its Fox Television Stations division.  This gives them a good 4PM to 7PM Hawaii time-slot for NFL Programming, which I'm sure,  they can't go wrong with.

    Hi everyone,

For the past 12 years, I've been a STH living in Indy.  I now find myself an STH living in Florida, which makes it a bit tougher to both get to games and watch them on TV.

I have a strategy to watch the regular season, but I'm not sure what my options are to watch pre-season games.  Do I have to tap into the Fox broadcast somehow, or are there a streaming option?

    Thanks!

  18. Keep an eye on when starters are removed from either team, that's when phase I analysis ends. Offense: How did we do as far as QB prowess, running lanes, pass protection, who emerges at WR, LT, & RB.  Defense: What schemes were employed, what did the LBers look like, how did traditional mike, ike, & sam look from a spacing standpoint (were we cheating spacing due to lack of athleticism), how did we hold the edge? Corners -- I will squint my eyes and watch.  I'd say then we look at Phase II, very closely to see what combination of starters are kept in to play with some of the rookies, and vets trying to make the roster,, how did they grade out?  That combo will then give way to no perceived starters left out there (Phase III) and then its Katy, bar the door. What is glaring good or bad. There should be some players hopefully jumping off the page a bit for all the right reasons taking their stand to make the team... I like that part of the game, albeit uglier, I think this year's team should have some nice prospects doing some damage.

As good a guess as any.

If you get within 90% right you are doing something (or got lucky).

    Where I would disagree.

          1.  I think Mewhort does not make it

         2. 11 d linemen is too many

         3. I think Hines' versatility mean 1 less WR that makes it

         4. I thinl Swoope makes it and they keep 4 TE's

    nice prediction!
