  1. I am not sure who or what you are referencing but Pats fans, at least the ones I know, do not hate Rodney or wish he were dead. But I am sure there are some crazy people everywhere.

My post on the Manning hypo thread gave examples of Rodney's anit-Patriot sentiments that have appeared since his retirement and move into broadcasting and some of the reasons I think why he has these views. You can read them there if you want but honestly I am not sure what drives his agenda given he is in the media. Perhaps he feels if he takes a contrarian view then he will get more attention which has been true as certainly guys like Bruschi are much more Patriot friendly. But I more questioned his hypo about Manning winning three SBs with Brady's teams because of the timing of it. The Pats and Denver were playing that week on his network so I think he said it garner attention for sure which makes perfect sense. And I don't doubt that he may actually believe it too.

My overall thought on Rodney is this and you really have to wrap your head around this to understand his life post-football. After David Tyree caught that ball and the Giants won the Super Bowl, Rodney said he contemplated retirement that whole off-season because that one play bothered him so much. Imagine being the guy defending that flukey play and have to hear everyone who ever mentions that 2007 season reference that play. No one in NE blames Rodney as he had the receiver blanketed but the play itself is a  lot like Bill Buckner in the 1986 World Series in that it defined a championship season that should have been won but was lost on one play. Now we all know neither the 1986 World Series or the 2008 SB were decided on one play but those two plays are for sure the worst plays in Boston sports history and Rodney is linked to one of them.

Again, I am not sure what fuels the man one way or the other but that is just some perspective on him since you asked.

In answer to your first statement, a post had been made telling us that many Patriot fans felt that way.  Thankfully, that post was edited.

Your post in the Manning hypo thread sang a different tune than what you posted in your response.  In that thread, you wrote:

Some background here on Rodney - it is widely known that Brady used to torch him in practice. The D had what they called the "Dirty Show." Brady used to talk about it where they would try to get to Brady but routinely fail. Rodney likes to think that the SB wins were all about him when he wasn't even there for the first one and did not play the entire second half of the Caroline SB due to a broken arm. And of course it was him covering David Tyree for the infamous helmet catch that kept the Pats from their fourth ring and an undefeated season. He was also busted for roids because he kept getting injured the last 5 years of his career and could never stay on the field and routinely voted as one of the dirtiest players in the NFL for all his late hits after the whistle blew.

That read much differently to me than what you are now posting and came across as you accusing Rodney of being a bitter, selfish man and blaming him for not covering Tyree and therefore also assigning him any and all blame for losing a SB and a perfect record.

As if that were not enough, you went on to add the fact that he was busted for HGH and known to be one of the dirtiest players in the league.

All that was made in response to a hypothetical and seemed like nothing more to me than a Brady homer who can’t bear the thought that anyone (especially a former Patriot) would dare to say that he thought Manning was as good as Brady.  And, that is hard for me to wrap my head around as I have never felt a need elevate any QB over another especially given that football is the ultimate team sport.

Now, it seems that you are in less of an attack mode and are saying that even though Rodney may actually believe that Manning is as good as Brady and that the defense also played a part in winning those SBs . . . that it was wrong of Rodney to share his opinion because it wasn't Patriot friendly???

  2. sports bars absolutely suck to watch a game with no volume and/or another games audio.

the same can be said to anyone that is blacked out. why not drive to a bar that is outside the blackout area? it's only one game, not most of the year.

Yes, I could drive to a sport's bar; but as GoColts8818 said, it would be quite a long drive.

It seems to me that you are determined to be unsympathetic and have a haha "sucks to be you" attitude.

    So, I'm done.

  3. those are the breaks. i live in md and almost never get to see the colts unless it's a national television game. i should be the one complaining, no?

I realize that it is difficult to be a fan who does not live in Indiana; but, no, you should not be the one complaining.

You always have the option of going to a local sports bar that has coverage of every game.

Even that would be denied to those living in a blackout area.

  4. You really need to educate yourself on Rodney post-retirement ...

Well then, by all means, please do educate me.  As you once so kindly pointed out, I do not possess the vast knowledge that you and others here share.

What has Rodney Harrison done that is so bad that he is attacked for having an opinion that most (including a few Patriot fans) read to say nothing more than that he thought Peyton was as good as Brady and that defense helps wins championships?

And, what has Rodney Harrison done that is so bad to make any Patriot fan wish he was dead?

  5. Great post, NCF!

I would also like to add that the Colts have given some great prizes to the fans on this (and previous boards) over the years.

Perhaps, other teams do the same; I'm not sure. :dunno:

But, I know that winning an autographed Peyton Manning jersey was so exciting for me as I had never, ever won anything before in my life except a dumb, old teddy bear cake pan and I don't like to cook or bake.

So, I will always be thankful because one of my dreams was to have something, anything autographed by Peyton.  :cloud9:

  6. Congratulations shecolt! and thank you. I had ten weeks of double digit win totals and yet I could not shake you. You earned it.

My best teams were the Patriots(11 wins), the Colts, Broncos, Seahawks and 49ers(10 wins each).

You are on my list of Patriot fans whom I like and respect.

It's a short list and it's not easy to get on that list.

So, you should consider it a real compliment that you have made my list.  :)

  7. Congrats!

It was fun playing, would be a bit better with the Thursday night games, I am really good at picking those, You are probably going to win the yahoo league too, 6 picks ahead of me, you would have to seriously falter in the playoffs :)

    Thank you, SilentHill.

I'm not at all confident about winning the yahoo league.  Those playoff games can be very unpredicatable for me.

And, if MAC hadn't forgotten to make his picks several times  ;) ; I'm sure he would be far ahead of me.

  8. "The NFL defines a team's market area as "local" if it is within a 75-mile radius of the team's home stadium. Therefore, a blackout affects any market where the terrestrial broadcast signal of an affiliate station, under normal conditions, penetrates into the 75-mile radius."

According to the policy I dont think we would be blacked out in Fort Wayne but Im not sure if we fall into the terrestrial market conditons (i dont even know what they mean by this to be honest). The quote came from Yahoo btw.

Fort Wayne is considered a secondary market.  So, any blackout would affect that area also.

As a fan who lives near Fort Wayne, I was always upset when preseason home games were blacked out on the NFLN because the Indy channel was covering that game.

So, even though I had NFLN; I was unable to watch those games because I am not in the Indy viewing area.

In other words, I lived too close yet too far away.  :hairout:

Thankfully, the local FOX station finally decided to air the preseason games.

  9. Even though I think there will ultimately be no blackout due to the TV station picking up the slack, I do have one question about how the blackout works:

If a blackout happens, does it just blackout the local viewing of the game? For example, are you able to go to a place like buffalo wild wings and watch the game still? (they are able to get the game being aired in different regions)

If the game is blacked out, you will not be able to watch the game anywhere in the blackout area because the blackout applies to the NFL Sunday Ticket also.

  10. These posts are funny..  they basically try to set the stage for giving Manning 100% of the credit if they win the Super Bowl, but excuse him if they lose to someone because the team and talent around him is just sooooo awful!  Such awful talent, they only managed to set the record for most points in a season this year, I don't even know how he manages to get a single completion when he takes the field with all those scrubs!

    Amusing.

What you are seeing and find amusing is a page that has been taken from the “Patriot Fan Guide” that instructs Patriot fans to give Brady all the credit for SB wins, but put the blame for SB losses on others.

Not all Patriot fans agree with this; but many do.  And, it has reached a new low this year with Patriot fans attacking Rodney Harrison and even telling us that many Patriot fans wish he would drop dead because he refuses to agree with the ideology written in the “Patriot Fan Guide”.

Btw . . . you do realize, don’t you, that vanqos is a Patriot fan???

  11. Thats because he was trying to be over the top.. it was hyperbole/sensationalism and you can see the grin on his face while hes saying it.  It was obviously done in jest, although im sure he does have the opinion that Brady is one of the greatest, or is the greatest, of all time but that little radio skit was obviously done in an over the top manner intentionally for comedy.

I agree that Colin’s words were made in jest . . . at least, I hope they were . . .  and I have no problem with him thinking that Brady is one of the greatest because I also think he is great.

My point in posting it was to negate the myth and subsequent whining that is done by some Patriot fans that Peyton gets all the love.

  12. power :)

    Well behind keyboard power ;)

Then the straight on troll (who's usually kicked off quick) are just pranksters.

    Interesting!

So, are you saying that those who troll have a psychological need to exert their power (which I interpret to be an attempt to show-off and brag) because it's not enough for them to believe that the team, QB, etc. for whom they cheer is great; but that they have to belittle another team, QB, etc. and/or rub it in about how much better their team, QB, etc. is?

  13. Then there are those like me who just love it all.  I mean gee its just entertainment.

I'd be willing to bet Brady has received more from commentators.

Yeah, I really don't care who the commentators may love more.  I learned a long time ago to view football as nothing more than entertainment.

That's because they've been on top. Substitute another team with the same success and you will get their trolls. Tis' the nature. King of the mountain and all that rah rah.  I mean you're not gonna troll at 2-14 :)

This is true.  But, I've never understood why others feel the need to troll.

    Do you have any theories?

  14. Good post, and true IMO all around. The only thing I'm not sure of is the bold part... I think opposing fans would relish the Patriots' mediocrity for a couple of seasons before they lost interest.  ;)

It's funny, having rooted for this team going back to the late 1970s, to sit back and contemplate what the Patriots have become to the rest of the NFL. No one hated New England when they went 1-15 in 1990 or 2-14 two years later! So yeah, I agree that the anti-Patriot sentiment out there is sort of a twisted form of respect. Some of that is just due to their prolonged success, and the notion that no one wants to see the same teams in the mix year after year. Some of it is self-inflicted (Spygate, Belichick's general gruffness, the perception that Brady is arrogant, which is really a misconception and more of a contrived thing).

I doubt Bill Belichick or Tom Brady would have many negative things to say, if any, about Peyton Manning. Of course I'm a Brady guy, the Pats are my team... but respecting your opponents and rivals, and acknowledging that one player's greatness doesn't deter from another's, is a concept that both Manning and Brady fans really should embrace.

Yes, you are so correct in that fans need to realize that acknowledging the greatness of a player doesn't deter from another and the constant bashing of Manning that I have read over the years is the reason for my dislike of the Patriots.  And, I have no doubt that Patriot boards have experienced the same with Colt's fans bashing Brady.

I don't dislike the Patriot team itself or their success.  Why should I?  The Patriots are only trying to do what the Colts and every other NFL team tries to do . . . which is win.  To dislike the Patriots for their success would be nothing but sour grapes on my part.

I don't dislike Brady and I have never once felt the need to put him down . . . except for a few of his crazy hair styles. :brady:

I don't dislike Belichick.  I think he's a great coach.  Although, he probably wouldn't be on my list of people with whom I would like to party.   :disco:

And, I have always thought that Spygate was overblown.

I dislike the Patriots because I have had to put up with trolling fans for years who come on Colt's boards to sing the Praises of Brady and often to also spew their hatred.  And, the amount of Patriot trolls have greatly outnumbered the amount of trolls from all the other teams combined.

Thankfully, there have been a few great Patriot fans ;); that have prevented my dislike for the Patriots from growing even deeper.

And, if there were more; I may find myself someday cheering for the Patriots again like I did in their first SB win. :cheer2::lombardi:

  15. Most Patriot fans respect Peyton the quarterback and recognize him as an all-time great.  It's possible that some Pats fans and fans of other teams in general are just sick of the bizarre media mancrush and excuses - think Favre before he finally retired.  That's how it comes off to someone who isn't a Broncos/Colts/Peyton follower and would be just as annoying if it were Brady/Brees/Rodgers etc..

The Manning lovefest is nothing compared to any athlete in all 4 major sports, Lebron James included.  And love or hate Lebron, but he's won the last two championships.

Oh, please, a love fest doesn't get much more bizarre than this:

For years, I have been reading posts by Patriot fans who say that Peyton gets all the love.

And, I have also read posts by Colt's fans who say that Brady gets all the love.

It's gotten to the point where I read such posts and all I see is, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha". :drama:

I don't think either one of them gets more love than the other from the media.  Although, there have been some years where one of them will be get more attention and praise based on the circumstances.

I think the problem is that there is never enough praise for Brady in the eyes of some Patriot fans and any praise for Brady is too much in the eyes of Colt's fans . . . and vice versa.

In other words, a commentator going on for 5 minutes about how awesome Brady or Manning is would only seem like 5 seconds to the fans who love one of those quarterbacks.  And, conversely, those 5 minutes would seem more like 5 hours to the fans who dislike those quarterbacks.

  16. Thanks! That was the Patriots board.

    :)

You're welcome.  And, yes, I remember very well where I read your comment.  There are some very bitter, insecure fans on that board.

I could understand the hatred if the Patriots were a perennial bottom dweller in the same division and the fans were sick and tired of being bested.

But, that is not the case.  For some time, the Patriots have been a great team and still are a great team.  They have a head coach and quarterback who will go down in history as two of the best and deservedly so IMO.

With Brady and Belichick, the Patriots have been to five Superbowls which is an awesome feat even though two of those were losses.

So, when some Patriot fans come here with their hatred and their incessant need to push down our throats how much better they think their team, their quarterback, their head coach, etc. is than another team, another quarterback, or head coach, etc.; the posts often remind of the infantile behavior of an insecure child on a playground who is determined to seek validation by browbeating others into agreeing that his/her daddy is the best.

Participation was down big time from last year and I was a bit disappointed with the amount of people that partook and stayed. I'll still do it again next year.

I'm sorry to hear that participation was down this year.  But, I'm thankful that you have been willing to mastermind this little contest and are planning to do so again next year.

For me, it's makes watching all the games more fun . . . as if I had some huge monetary bet on the outcome.

  18. SHECOLT, YOU WON!! You went 14-2 your last week and Flying Elvis went 10-6. Flying Elvis, you had a great season my friend, and are a great competitor. Please do this again next year.

I went 15-1, those damn Chiefs!!!

    Seriously???  I won!!! :cheer2:

But, I would like to share my title with FlyingElvis for demonstrating extraordinary sportsmanship.  He was a great asset to this little competition.

  19. I don't really know how you can consider a team that lost to the 3 of the 4 post season teams they're likely to face the best anything of all time.

Denver didn't beat anybody this season outside of Kansas City which isn't that good.

It isn't sour grapes. It's just a fact. The 2007 Patriots set their offensive records against the Colts, the Steelers, the Ravens, the Giants, etc - all the best defenses in football. 16-0

It was a very strong schedule and they didn't lose to anyone.

What did Denver do? They beat a lot of teams that wouldn't even be sniffing the play offs, compiled high stats against them, and decisively lost against the Colts, the Patriots, and the Chargers, all of whom represent the best competition in the AFC this year.

So I don't think this is sour grapes on my part as much as it is an over eagerness to lavish someone with accomplishment on your own part.

How, given this, the Broncos can be considered the "best offense ever" is quite, quite beyond me.

If they were the best anything of all time, people would actually be scared of them going into the post season. Most of the teams in the AFC tournament have very good reason to be confident against a Bronco team.

I'm a little slow at times.  So, it took me a while to realize that you are the same person who started a thread about Peyton on another team's board where you went on to say that you are "an open and unapologetic Manning hater".

So, even though I didn't like your post; I'm going to give it a "like" anyhow.

Consider it my way of giving you an A+ for being consistent in your hatred.

  20. :sigh: Sometimes it seems to me like Peyton just can't catch a break.

For years, we heard . . . yeah he's great, but he has prove it by winning the big one.

He no sooner than gets that monkey off his back before monkey #2 climbs on and some are saying . . . yeah he's great, but he has to win more than one SB to prove it.

I often wonder . . . if the Colts had defeated the Saints, would monkey #3 now be on his back.

Then, he breaks the TD record . . . but, wait that wasn't really a TD.  Fortunately, he had another game left in the regular season.

Now, he breaks the passing yard record . . . but, wait that wasn't really a forward pass.  Sadly, he doesn't have another game left in the regular season.

If I were Peyton, I would probably tell them to take away the record myself because many will now put an asterisk behind it and the record will also probably soon be broken anyhow.

  21. Correct me if I am wrong, Indyfan4Life; but this is what I think you are saying:

The Bengal's game was bad which brought out the usual Danny Downers and Negative Neds (I refuse to point my finger at poor Debbie and Nancy when the majority of the members here are male. ;) )

And, it's not that you told others that the game vs. the Bengals wasn't important; but merely that the poor play of the Colts in that game was not necessarily a harbinger of things to come.

So, you gave the example of the Giants and could have also used the example of the Colts when many thought they would go no where in the playoffs especially after being smeared by the Jaguars by a score of 44-17 and allowing them to rush for 375 (or whatever it was) yards.

But, the "sky is falling" Dannys and Neds laughed at you for even entertaining such a thought after that miserable loss to the Bengals.

And, you are now here to tell Danny and Ned that they need to have a little more faith in the Colts.  They are looking good and you really hope that their hot streak continues . . . as do I.
