  1. Wow!  I am really surprised this hasn't turned into a Tom Brady bashing thread with the "Brady Rule" and his whining and flailing on the ground after he gets hit looking at the ref for a flag.  I'm a Pats fan and I get a little embarrassed and frustrated when Brady does that and many Pats fans agree with me.  They call in the Boston sports talk shows and take shots at Brady from time to time.

With regards to that hit on Drew Brees, the rules are the rules and it's not Brees' fault.

Colts fans need to remember and understand that a lot of these rules of protecting offensive players started for the 2004 or 2005 season when the Patriots beat the Colts in the playoffs the previous year and the Colts' owner who sat on the rules committee complained and created the rule where you can't touch offensive players past 5 yards.  They said the Pats were "mugging" Colts' players.  Some of the Rams players and their fans complained about that too during after the 2001 super bowl.

What Patriot fans need to remember and understand is that Polian (not the Colt's owner) complained to the competition committee (of which he was a member) that the rule was not being enforced.  He did not create a new rule all by himself . . . as if that would even be possible.

Now if you prefer that the defense of other teams should be allowed to "mug" Patriot players, I would be happy to sign a petition to that effect.

Also, here's a little read that you may find informative:

  2. Some background here on Rodney - it is widely known that Brady used to torch him in practice. The D had what they called the "Dirty Show." Brady used to talk about it where they would try to get to Brady but routinely fail. Rodney likes to think that the SB wins were all about him when he wasn't even there for the first one and did not play the entire second half of the Caroline SB due to a broken arm. And of course it was him covering David Tyree for the infamous helmet catch that kept the Pats from their fourth ring and an undefeated season. He was also busted for roids because he kept getting injured the last 5 years of his career and could never stay on the field and routinely voted as one of the dirtiest players in the NFL for all his late hits after the whistle blew.

In terms of his hypothetical which are always silly to me, no one knows. Belichick all the time says there is no other QB he would want other then Brady. Basically Brady is Belichick on the field when it comes to knowing and understanding football and playing smart. I have my doubts that Manning would have been able to run the different style of offenses that Belichick has incorporated over the years or that Bill would let him run his Indy offense.

This is the same argument about Marino winning with Montana's teams. All conjecture.

In other words, you don't like the message . . . so you want to attack the messenger.

  3. I meant it generally not totality. Nothing exists in totality.

Now, you're just speaking in riddles to me.

Your original statement was worded as one of totality.

Your subsequent statement was not as it included the word, "many".

There are numerous statements that I could make that exist in totality.  Such as, the New England Patriots are an NFL team or a gnat is an insect.

So, I don't get where you are coming up with this "nothing exists in totality" stuff when I was referring to a statement that you had made and not to some grand philosophical outlook.

  4. I was speaking in generalities. Most Colts fans did not defend Brady and I would not expect any different. Most Pats fans have not defended him either but also understand why he had the reaction he did.

Your above post is much different

    But, your other post read:

And why on earth would Pats fans defend Manning? hello?

That does not speak in generalities to me.  That speaks in totality.

And, I also know that is wrong because there are a few Patriot fans here who would defend Manning when they feel others are looking at a situation unfairly.

  5. You need to pick a side man. Either you want to compare this to Dez/Brady or Manning/Brady. I think we have already beaten the Brady/Manning to death. And why on earth would Pats fans defend Manning? hello? It is not like I expected to see Colts fans defending Brady on this thread.

And Manning saves his tirades for his centers with spit oozing out of his mouth. And of course his Oline when he throws them under the bus. ;)

Hey, hello  ,  In case you missed it, I just defended Brady and I am a Colt's fan.

So, why on earth would Pat's fans ever defend Manning?

The answer is objectivity and looking at a situation through clear glasses without any bias.

  6. first off Brady said that because they did not want to say what they think in the presser  . . . after all every pats opponent is "the best at doing everything" most of the time they say it out of respect, sometimes it true, sometimes they just pick the good players so what they say is true, and sometimes it is plan political nonsense for the presser and public . . . Brady is not going to say "I say the play and it was an ^^^ call and can not see why they have their jobs" . . . he is going to pass it off and play jimmy the dunce . . .

as for Manning being upset, he was mad because the refs made Denver take a timeout and give back SD TO, as the clock was key at the point in the game preserving SD's TO help them as they could stop the clock on more time . . . Brady is not stupid and I don't believe his presser . .. . I got no problem with a QB yelling at a ref for a flag pick up no more than I have a problem with a QB getting at a ref for giving the TO back to SD . .. you are the one applying a double standard not me . . . I view them consistently . .  .

As I read your post, it seemed to me like you were implying that Brady was lying.  And, if so, I'm going to have to defend him.

I think it's entirely possible that Brady did not see the play.  It went very fast and there were all these big, tall men that could very well have been blocking his vision.

My thought was that Brady was upset at the time because an explanation was not given and not because he thought picking up the flag was wrong.

And, I think that is what the other poster was trying to point out . . . that Manning saw what happened and was upset whereas Brady didn't see what actually happened and was upset.

And, that doesn't mean that I blame Brady for being upset . . . I would have been also.

I do think that he probably wishes that he had acted a "little" calmer as this has become a story not just for the sporting world, but I saw coverage of it on a news channel last night that is usually dedicated primarily to politics.

  7. It was obvious that Smith and Talib are not BFFs.

In their first skirmish, a penality was called on Talib for holding Smith down by the ankle.

The second spat occured in the endzone.  It started out looking no differently than other little altercations I have seen in games.

But, it ended with Talib pulling Smith by his facemask.

There was no way the refs could have missed that as they were standing right there.

So, in my quest to better understand the game; I am asking if Talib could/should have been given a penalty for that?

It wouldn't have affected the outcome of that drive because the Panthers went on to score a TD.  But, I was surprised that a flag wasn't thrown.

For anyone who didn't see these two little "episodes", here is a link wth a video:

  8. I really hope not then I can't use my favorite Welker emoticon :argh:

    ;)

It would really be sad if Welker's concussion prevented you from being able to use your favorite Welker emoticon during the game vs. the Patriots.

BTW, what is your favorite Welker emoticon?

  9. Oh, are you talking about this?

    Twinings-Herbal-Tea-Bedtime-Blend-070177

I've been wondering why I've been sleeping 23 1/2 hours per day, missing pick deadlines right and left. :P

Love English Breakfast actually, and think I may have a bag left, and I heard the pot whistling a few minutes ago.

    Excuse me :burnout:

    Yes, that's it.

But, please don't tell anyone as I have a few more boxes to send out this week to several others whom I think have earned a well deserved break from making their picks.

  10. I think we are missing the point. Nobody is saying it wasn't story. Or that the storm wasn't serious. Or that it didn't warrant intense, meaningful coverage. But for every station in Indianapolis to do what it did today, yes it was overkill.

I understood your point and admit that I found myself switching back and forth from CBS to FOX hoping that one of them would show at least a little of the game.  A split screen would have been great.

The problem that I and others had was with your presentation.

You start off with a thread titled, "Oh, no! There's a cloud in the sky!  . . . along with a remark about WW3.

Then you go on to post:

it apparently was raining for the first time in the history of the state of Indiana,

That comes over as callous and unfeeling to those for whom the storms were more than just a cloud in the sky or a brief rain shower especially when we know that many don't have power tonight and may have a home that was destroyed.

  11. The entire NFL Sunday has been ruined to this point by the dramatic overreaction of every local Indianapolis TV station due to the weather. Where I live it has barely rained. Unreal! Why do these stations act like its a National emergency every time there is cloud in the sky?

I'm all for informing the public about important events. But there is no way this  storms should have caused every channel in Indianapolis to turn into the weather channel and completely ruin our NFL Sunday. Simple "cut ins" every half hour would have more than done the job.

    Thank you NFL Sunday Ticket.

I noticed this afternoon on my computer that NFL Sunday Ticket was allowing us to get all of the TV games via computer or Ipad. Normally, games that are broadcast in your local TV market are unavailable. I can only assume the change was made because the NFL received word that it apparently was raining for the first time in the history of the state of Indiana,  and thus, NFL fans would be blackout out of TV coverage.

I hope WTHR, WISH, WIXN and WRTV see a ratings decline for their ridiculous over saturation coverage which as of this moment is still ongoing.

A lot of us work hard during the week and look forward to watching NFL football on Sundays as our only escape.  Thank you for ruining our Sunday far worse than this "storm of the century" could have done on its own.

I'll admit that I was angry that these storms interrupted my viewing of football.  But, I was angry at Mother Nature for picking a Sunday . . . not at the TV stations for wanting to keep us informed.

I'm very happy that it barely rained where you live and you should be thankful because that was not the case everywhere in Indiana.

My facebook page is full of pics of destruction.  Here is just one of many:

  12. Not much in the way of "smack talk" this year. First post in 16 days - and the only person I'm smacking is myself.

Second place in the pool - already lost enough picks to forgetfulness to have cost me a tie for first, and today I completely forgot to do my 1pm picks for the second time!. :panic: :slaphead: :loco::gloomy::wall::argh::hissy:

Sometimes I :fear: that I must need :help: . Just  in the :manning: .

I was wondering if that box of Twining's tea that I sent you had arrived.

And, I'm happy to hear that you have been enjoying it.

  13. There are many overreactions on this forum and I can understand why. I know all Colts fans are used to winning with Peyton, but things have gone too far. I try to ignore the negative threads when I can. Like the "someone should be fired/benched" ones.

My post is just not aimed at you, but at anyone else who may share your feelings regarding negative threads.

We have a thread that is discussing "excessive negativity" and would welcome the input of any and all of you.

    http://forums.colts.com/topic/22614-excessive-negativity-on-the-site/

So far, there have been a few suggestions such as a "rant-free zone" and my suggestion of a sub-forum for rants where members would be asked to post those negative threads and moderators would move any such threads there that were posted in the Colt's main forum.

We would love to hear from more of you with any suggestions you may have to make this site more enjoyable for everyone.

  14. Although this should soon be moved to the General section, I wanted to reach out to the posters here where there is the most activity.

I recently stated that I was going to try to turn over a new leaf, for lack of a better description. It was my intent to be more supportive of others opinions and avoid confrontation. As some of you may know, I recently rescinded my duties as a mod to use the ignore feature in an attempt to make my experience a bit more tolerable. Since I have put over 30 on ignore in 2 weeks, and I just witnessed a whole new group of posters who have joined to vent about the failures of one or more aspects of the team even though we have a 3 game lead in our division, I now know I am not going to be able to fulfill my promise.

I just wanted to take a second to give a very real thank you to those here who have always brightened my day, and helped buoy my fan experience. What I come here for, is simply not available, despite the incredible and appreciated efforts of your moderator team. You members are really lucky to have them.

I wish everyone, even those I disagree with, great health and happiness.

    Go Colts!

It was hard for me to see you leave us as a moderator, but even harder for me to see you leave us altogether. :(

However, you need to do what is best for you.

Should you ever decide to return, I will be very happy to welcome you back.

  15. Fantastic. I didn't think I would get to break out the love emoticons today .... :kitty:  :flowers:  :luv:

  Now that I think about it, the last time I can recall you using those emoticons in response to me was when I complimented Dynasty, another Patriot fan.

I'm going to have to try to remember to do that more often since it puts you in such a lovey, dovey mood.

  16. Not seeing eye-to-eye with you on this one.

Regardless of whether you're talking about a bunch of long bombs or two-yard passes, any QB who throws 40+ TDs in a season has had an impressive year. I watched the Patriots lose to the Bengals a few weeks back while having LOTS of trouble trying to punch it in from (around) two yards out, either on the ground or via the pass. All QBs also benefit from plays where they make an easy throw and the receiver does the rest.

I also seriously doubt that "we need to break the single-season TD record for QBs" has come up in any offensive meetings this year for Denver! I know you're probably half-kidding about that, but people here will take you literally, lol...

What might do the Broncos in... stress on "might"... is that they play what has traditionally been a "soft" style of offense. Every so often those teams still win it all, but usually the one-dimensional aspect of it and their inability to win a street fight is what does them in. It's why the Patriots lost two Super Bowls to the Giants, but it's also why that rag-tag 2001 Patriots team upset the Rams. When your game is based on timing and precision, teams will beat you up to try to disrupt those things. And if the opposing team is good enough to do it, more often than not it works.

I also think that Denver defense is a major liability and that will hurt their chances.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm a Patriots fan and a Brady guy through-and-through, but credit where it's due... Manning's having a monster year. I'd rather see the Patriots win another Super Bowl. And it would be almost fitting if that happens the same year that Manning breaks Brady's 50-TD record.

This post is another example of why I like and respect you so much.

While you may slip at times ;); for the most part, I have always found your posts to be objective and void of pot stirring, back-handed compliments, and little jabs that are meant to irritate.

It's Patriot fans like you who may actually . . . someday . . . maybe . . . make me feel like cheering for the Patriots once again like I did when they played the Rams in that SB.

  17. New forum member, have been trolling for a while. Diehard Colts fan for quite some time....Grew up in Texas and was surrounded by Cowboys/Oilers fans but never really was a huge fan of either team. After moving to Indiana in the 90's started watching the Colts at family get togethers and was hooked! Through all the ups/down I have remained committed to the Colts, and have watched EVERY game. Have been to several home games and will be there tomorrow yelling my head off against the Rams!!!!

BTW... this forum really helps pass the time between games!!!

In 2000, I attended a seminar at Wolf Park in Battle Ground. I fell in love with Indiana and started following the Colts. I always wanted to move to Indiana but it was never in the cards for me. I went back a few more times for seminars. If I ever win the lottery, I will buy a house in The Battle Ground area and will be a Colts season ticket holder. I love the COLTS!

I want to welcome both of you to the forums.  :welcome:

And, I'm glad that both of you have decided to join us.
