  1. It's good we have someone like you that speaks for all of Indiana , and the entire Colts forum. We could say the same about your posts. It's funny, I'm consistent about the NFL punishing poor behavior be it a Colt, Raven , or any other team. I'm sorry I hold Ray Rice and Jim Irsay to standards that I expect NFL professionals to follow. If they have a problem, I support them getting well , and want them fully re-integrated. The fact of the matter is Ray Rice has fully apologized for his transgression , and will be disciplined. You could say, as one apologist has already cited, that this was personal and between Ray and his wife. But, it fell under the personal conduct clause of the league, which makes it the NFL's business. Ray understood he hurt his family, and embarrassed the Ravens, and the NFL. He took responsibility for what he did, is seeking help , will be punished, and eventually move on. Those are the expectations for all players, coaches , and yes, owners.

And, you weren't speaking for the Ravens and all of Baltimore with your little dig?

I know you say that you only have the best interests of Irsay and the Colts in mind.  You have told us that time and again.  And, you can keep on telling us that until the cow jumps over the moon on the wings of a raven and I still won't believe you because you have shown a clear penchant for criticism when the topic is Jim Irsay which is why I and others have a hard time taking you seriously.

  2. Not at all. This episode has absolutely anything to do with the past. To me, it's a totally separate issue. Look , I'm also very unhappy with the shenanigans of some of the Ravens players. In

My opinion , Ray Rice needs to be suspended for a few games. All of these players let down the Ravens organization and fans. In Baltimore, we don't make excuses for ill behavior , but there is always forgiveness for those that ask, and are contrite. Rice has already apologized, but the punishment needs to be handed out to show that the NFL doesn't tolerate these types of things.

Awh shucks, here in Indiana we just pat them on the back and say, "Way to go, dude."

Note to all Colt's fans:  If you see that the Old Crow has posted in a thread regarding Jim Irsay, do yourself a favor and just move on because all you will read is the same old, same old. :blah:

  3. I find it odd that everyone always has an opinion on what a group or organization that they are not a part of nor have they ever contributed to has an opinion on what that group should be doing with it's money.

It reminds me strongly of folks who have never sat in on a church budget meeting and are not a part of a church always having opinions on how a church should spend it's money.  Usually this stems from the fact that the church actually has different goals from what they think they aught to be.  For some reason everyone who doesn't attend church always thinks that poverty (and not the gospel) should be a church's primary concern.

If they want to get a name that they find offensive changed it's not an evil or wrong goal.  Just because you think their priorities should be different is meaningless.

The fact that there is high poverty among Native Americans does not render the change of a racist team name unimportant.

Excuse me!  Where in my post did I say that changing the name was an evil or wrong goal or that it was unimportant?

I'm sorry that you find my desire to have more concentration put on the plight of those in reservations rather than on a nickname to be meaningless.

Btw, aren't you the same guy who said that the pic of Lebron wearing a pink bra and a headband with a pink bow wasn't sexist because guys just do things like that . . . they insult one another by saying that the other has female characteristics because that's just guys bonding???

If so, you certainly do blow hot and cold.

  4. I don't want to get into whether or not the name of the Redskins is racist and should be changed.

But, I would like to see those who are so adamantly against the name use their time and money for a different priority which is that of helping the American Indian reservations where there is high unemployment, a shortage of housing, homes without running water and electricity, poor healthcare and a very high infant mortality rate, substandard education . . . and those are only a few of their problems..

Then, they can get back to me regarding the nickname of an NFL team.

  5. I'm gonna go ahead and respond, not to incite anything, but just because we're having a discussion. Feel free to ignore if you're done with this. Either way, I hope I haven't offended you in any way, nor do I intend to.

I agree that the whole situation was blown out of proportion. That's not surprising, given the state of the media.

Also, I'm obviously not claiming that rappers and gangsters represent black people as a whole. I'm not sure why you think I'm suggesting that, or even if you think I'm suggesting that. (It's also not just marketing. The rapper T.I. owns his own very successful record label, he's been in movies, he owns other businesses. Yet, he's done time in prison for various charges, and none of them were white collar crimes. He's not just pretending to be about guns and drugs and beating up cops; he's actually done it.)

What I am saying is that people in general view rappers (let's just set gangsters aside) as thugs, because they portray themselves in that manner. The music talks about drugs and violence and degrading women, which is thuggish. Many of them talk like they have no education. The entire industry centers around braggadocio. Many of them wear oversized clothes, including pants hanging off their butts. Even when some switched to skinny jeans, they still hung off their butts. Tattoos and braids are commonplace. They're loud and aggressive and confrontational. You don't have to pay attention to their music; all you have to do is watch TV or go on the Internet, and you'll see depictions of that "lifestyle."

A lot of them look like Richard Sherman. There's nothing necessarily wrong with Sherman's look. I don't like his hair, and some people associate tattoos with a rebellious attitude; he couldn't work for Disney and look that way. But the way a person looks doesn't define who/what they are.

What defines who and what you are is what you do. And for many people, their first real interaction with Richard Sherman was his overly confrontational outburst on national TV. Add to that the fact that he looks like what a lot of people think rappers look like, and a lot of people associate rappers with thuggery, and I get why people responded the way they did.

What's sad is that Sherman seems to be a smart, thoughtful and generally good person. He responded in the heat of the moment, and he didn't come across well, but if you throw microphones in people's faces in the heat of the moment, you're not always going to get well thought out responses. I think the media and a lot of fans are hypocritical in that regard; you want access because you want to see the behind the scenes, but then your first reaction when you see something you don't like is to judge and condemn, rather than acknowledging that everyone has bad moments. And then when you get the media savvy responses, you call it fake and rehearsed. There's no winning.

Either way, yes, labels, stereotypes, and outright racism and discrimination are a big problem. (It's not just this country, by the way.) But a lot of stereotypes exist for a reason. I live not too far from where Richard Sherman grew up. I've been to his high school. I know about the riots after football games. I know about the guys who have been arrested for drive-bys and armed robbery. I know some of them. I know what others look like. Stupid people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and from all over the world. Thuggery is not exclusive to young black guys with dreadlocks and tattoos, nor is it some sort of predisposition. Yet and still, there is a reason people associate angry, screaming, dreadlocked black men with thuggery, and I don't think it's just racism. I wish people -- particularly young black men -- would stop feeding those stereotypes, especially on national television. And I wish other people would stop defending that behavior as if it's okay.

I probably should have edited your post to shorten it, but I found so much wisdom in your words that I hated to do so.

Anyhow,  just wanted to say that I am in total agreement and I think Bill Cosby would be also.

  6. I'm going to play 2 teams this year..one i'm picking the winners, the other all losers (WITHOUT LEAVING BLANK)..with my luck, my losers team will beat my winners team..lol

      Maybe, I am missing something here because it seems like the same thing to me.

If you pick the winners, then you have also by default picked the losers.

And, if you picked the losers; then you have also by default picked the winners.

    So, what am I missing?

  7. To all my friends here,  the Draft is almost here for Football.   It has been a long off season I think for us all.   As soon as Yahoo Sports gets up and running for the new season I will let everyone know and resend invites or whatever needed.   Have a few months to work with Brent so he can log in all season this year,   just kidding buddy.

    Bob

Even though I haven't decided if I will play this year, I really appreciate your willingness to do this again.

  8. I have learned long ago shecolt that Brady is much more defensible on field then off. ;)   From hugging goats to gelato slurping and purse carrying to going down a water slide with his hands up in the air. The guy is so comfortable in his own skin it makes me envious quite honestly. Perhaps it was being drafted in the sixth round that helps him know he didn't always used to be THAT guy or growing up with three older sisters but he just seems to roll with things as you say and likes to poke fun at himself. It is nice that Gisele was him too as she doesn't seem to care either if he likes to act goofy at times.

    Another great post.

So what if Tom loves to enjoy life by doing a few quirky things.  Good for him.  I wish I was as confident as Tom because I think it would be fun to put a pink streak in my hair to match my new glasses.

The reason I really appreciate your posts is that many Patriot fans become defensive when there is a thread regarding whatever new and quirky thing Tom has done and often resort to making a remark in one way or another regarding Peyton's forehead.

As if Peyton chose his forehead by going to the local forehead stylist and saying, "Hey, give me a number 8."

So, it's refreshing to find a Patriot fan that as I said . . . can just roll with it and have fun . . . especially when it is nothing more than a haircut.

  9.  Thanks for the edgamacation. :funny: I had no idea that I was missing so much. Smurfs are cute, but other than that I can't say that I know anything that one wouldn't pick up by accident.

Gramz is right - I haven't posted this much in some time and the conversations are tending to the comically surreal.

I picked that picture because the "do" looked similar and the evident self-absorption seemed appropriate. Intended no more and no less.

By the way, you are touching on a pet peeve here. I have fond recollections of a lot of kid oriented movies, books etc from my youth, and some things my wife and I take pleasure in watching even now. My default assumption is that they are utterly devoid of sexual implications in every way shape or form. I find it seriously disturbing when people start claiming otherwise - be it analyzing the authors intent or the characters nature. It just ta-ints and complicates something whose pleasure is very much tied to it's innocence and simplicity. (Not sure why the spell checker keeps changing that word to "Saints". Not sure I want to know.)

Yes, that's pretty much why I thought you choose the pic.

I agree with you that others trying to find some hidden meaning is annoying although I have often wondered about the meaning behind Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater.

It's not the spell checker changing that word.  It is the filter because that word is considered to be an insulting nickname for the Saints.

  10. haha haha   Shecolt.....   thanks for adding to my amusement this evening.

   You do know your Smurfs     :funny:

    What can I say?

My children grew up at a time when the Smurfs were very popular which meant I watched a lot of Smurfs.  :wall:

My daughter even wanted a Smurf-themed birthday party.

Now, I'm learning a lot about Peppa Pig and the Bubble Guppies as they are my grandson's favorite shows.

  11. I beleive he best thing is for Trent to never start again for the Colts. I am optimistic that this may happen.

You're like the guy who tells the cancer patient not to try chemo or radiation because you believe that cancer is going to kill them anyhow.  So, you are optimistic that he/she will die sooner without going through any treatments.

As for me, I believe the best thing for this thread would be if everyone would just ignore your posts (which is what I intend to do).

I am optimistic that this may happen.

  12. Que? I'm not entirely sure what you are saying, but taking a guess here...............he's not trying to define my sexual orientation, he's accusing me of being intolerant of someone else's (Brady?, Smurf? His?) sexual orientation. Doesn't make sense actually, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Actually what he's doing is :atroll: in one of the more bizarre manners I've seen on here in awhile.

I think I can help you here.  SN12 was posting under the assumption that you know your Smurfs and therefore choose Vanity Smurf over say Papa Smurf or Brainy Smurf.

There has been some controversy as to Vanity Smurf's sexuality because he is a beautician who has an effeminate voice and his closest friend is Smurfette . . . although he never showed any interest in her romantically.

Personally, I never saw Vanity Smurf as anything other than what his name indicates which is that he is a very vain little Smurf who talks about himself all the time and whose favorite pastime is looking at himself in the mirror which is why he always carries one.

Although I find you highly intelligent, I rather doubt that you are up on the Smurfs enough to have chosen that pic for any other reason than you thought the image was fitting.

Now, why do I feel the need to change my font to Smurf Blue?

  13. That is why I love about Brady. He is never full of himself. He will dress up, act kookie, make fun of himself. He knows life is about having fun and not getting caught up in all the hype.

And, a great response by a Patriot fan.  Just roll with it and have fun.

After all, it is just a haircut.

  14. From my viewpoint Trent is gonna suck, he has already sucked 2 years in a row.

I think Grigson will want to save face and try to put Trent in the mix even if he is the worst of the 3 backs. Nobody likes to be wrong and if Trent stinks again the Grigson is very very wrong. I don't believe for a second that Trent will be good, so I would rather he was so awful that there is no way Grigson could justify giving him the starting role.

I don't think this will happen.

I think he will stink and Grigson will demand he plays. He might have a 3.6 ypc game or 2 at the beginning of the season, but then he will become exactly what he was last season which was a complete failure.

3.6 isn't good, but I think that will be the very most Trent is capable of before once again being exposed.

12 touchdowns his rookie season is all he has to hang his hat on and they were some short yardage score which often took him a couple of tries to get in.

His best career game was against the Colts who have a horrible run defense. He is practicing against guys who were not good enough to make it to the horrible run defense.

Some people will watch him run in preseason and get hyped because Trent might bust a play against guys who are 2 weeks away from being cut, but not me.

I wanted him to live up to his hype when he arrived in Indy, now I just want him to go away. I am optimistic that his time here will be short and uneventful, because the events that involve him have so far never been good.

Whether or not you think that Trent’s play sucks, has sucked, and will suck is not the point.

The point is that most fans would be optimistic that a player (especially one who was traded for #1 pick) would turn into a great player for the team (no matter how much they felt that player sucked) rather than saying they are optimistic that will never happen.

I guess that’s where we differ.  I define optimism as hope for the best possible outcome even if I think the likelihood of the best possible outcome coming to fruition is slim to none.

Whereas you seem to be more determined to be optomistic that you are correct even though it is the not the best thing for the team.

  15. Photoshopped. That's not even how Brady looks.

    No, that wasn't photoshopped:

Is Tom Brady giving us a preview of his Met Gala do? The footballer experimented once again with his mane this weekend, attending celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh’s birthday party in N.Y.C. with a mini-cowlick-meets-fauxhawk look that reminds us a lot of the famous cartoon character Tintin. (Agree? You make the call with the help of the photo above.)

It also looks like the New England Patriots quarterback added some blond highlights to his normally brunet hue. And he even dressed similar to the beloved comic reporter, wearing a preppy blue plaid shirt and high-waisted red pants. Brady’s wife Gisele Bündchen attended the star-studded party

  16. Its just opinions, both sides are aloud to have them. Doesn't make you more or less of a fan if you think Trent is going to be great or a bust. Just like it doesn't make you more or less of a fan to think Grigson is a good or bad GM. I know plenty of fans of other teams that have players on the roster who they dislike, and you would be hard pressed to find a Cowboys fan who thinks Jerry Jones is a good GM.

    Its just opinions.

I was optimistic when Trent arrived, by the playoffs I was disgusted with him. He used up all my optimism dancing around and running past holes. This season I am optimistic that he will stink so bad in camp and preseason that he will never take the field in a regular season game, I feel that would be best for the team.

The sentence I have bolded seems really strange to me.  Perhaps, it's because I have a different definition of the word, "optimistic".

I would think the optimist would want Trent to do so well in camp and preseason that he would take the field in every regular season game where he would continue to play even better as his doing so would be best for the team.

  17. Thanks...Shecolt

Younger folks forget that they grew up with all this....I went through grade school, (we didn't call it middle school then) HS and college and never saw a computer of any kind

Until recently I thought a smart phone was one that didn't cost very much..

The language might as well be ..an ancient form of Chinese for all I understand it...and I've found that folks are just stunned and almost angered that someone older has not learned on their own things they were taught....I only know what I've picked up through trial and error and all of that will fit in a small bag...

....Until just recently I thought a 'selfie' was something you couldnt talk about in mixed company

Yes, those who grew up with computers do have an advantage.  My first experience with a computer was when the university I worked for sent me to off-campus classes.  I can still remember sitting their lost and confused while all the other students were typing away because I didn’t even know how to turn on that blasted thing.

Although my computer knowledge will never come close to matching that of so many others, I have come a long way since then and so have you or you wouldn’t even be on here posting.

Your age may be a reason as to why you aren’t computer savvy, but never let it be an excuse.  Ask questions.  As Nadine said, there are many who are happy to help.

And, don’t be like my husband who never figured out how to use a universal remote.  It’s not that he isn’t intelligent enough to understand.  After all, he is the same guy who can tear a motor apart and put it back together.  He just chooses not to learn as it is easier to claim ignorance and yell for help.

IMO,  it is people like him who cause those who have computer knowledge to become angry when giving assistance.  It’s not that they don’t want to teach an old dog new tricks.  It’s more that they get tired of leading a horse to water when the horse doesn’t want to drink.

  18. the url?

haha  I'm not laughing at you.  I am laughing with you because it wasn't that long ago that I didn't know what a URL was either.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator (I know . . . those are some big words if you're lost).  As Nadine said, it is basically the web address for the page.

If you look at the top of this page, you will find the URL which is:

    http://forums.colts.com/topic/28358-broncos-sign-miller-for-2015/

All you have to do then is to copy and paste the URL as I just did and it will appear as a link.  In this case, my link will just take you back to this thread.

    Hope this helps.
