Well it clearly happened, was just responding to the poster who says that hold outs like this happen all the time. Holdouts like this particular one, do not happen all the time. As for the contract portion, I don't want to give him any new contract. Prior to this hold in, I didnt want to extend him. I would have just franchised him after this year and then moved on. I would not give any RB a big contract, and certainly would not give one to an incomplete back like JT.

Chris Johnson signed his first contract before the new rookie wage scale (came in 2012), but good call on Zeke. But unless there others, that would be only one holdout while on their rookie rookie contract in the 11 offseasons since the rookie wage scale came into place. There definitely may be others, but the point stands that it isn't exactly common for a player to hold out while still on the rookie contract, it usually doesn't come until after their first contract.

When was the last time a player held out while still on their rookie contract? Serious question because I can't remember one in the last ten years? Since the rookie wage scale came in, usually the earliest you get a hold out is right after their rookie deal is over and they had the franchise tag placed on them (like Barkley/Jacobs this year)

Thank you! Its been driving me crazy seeing people equating the Barkley/Jacobs situations with Taylor. Barkley and Jacobs finished their rookie contracts, were given the tag and were unsigned. The teams and the RBs negotiated the little bumps on 1 year deals to get them into camp. Taylor has not finished his rookie contract, he shouldn't be given a single penny more for this season. I am usually all for the players doing what they need to do to get paid since they have such a short shelf life, but not before you finish your rookie deal. That is the bare minimum all players have to do, finish your rookie contract and then do what you need to do.

AR looked a lot better in the first quarter when they were running a lot more RPOs, which is what I expect our offense to look like the majority of this year. He had the string of imcompletions (and drops/fall downs) when they went pure dropback. He is clearly going to need to improve at the dropback game, but outside of hurry up situations, I don't expect them to run it a ton this season.

Pierce really unimpressive in these preseason games, hoping that doesn't carry over to the regular season because I am expecting him to take a big jump forward.

Assuming AR is done at this point, the passing stats (6/14) don't look nearly as good as I thought he played. I feel pretty good about him going into the regular season.

Honestly, once it was clear Richardson was not completely overwhelmed thus far, this was the only choice. Certainly will make this a super fun year to watch, and I really believe we are going to see some super high highs and will be happy with his progress by the end of the year.

Said it earlier and will say it again, I can't be bothered to get that worked up over a RB. JT has a contract, if he really wants to leave, he has no choice but to play this year. If the Colts tag him after this season and he wants to demand a trade then or sit out, he can do what he wants because he won't be under contract. I do think its hilarious that a running back on his rookie contract really thinks he has any sort of leverage to demand a trade, especially with how limited the RB market is.

lol Irsay is such a mess, but glad they are taking that stance. You are under contract, you play this year, end of discussion. If they tag JT after this season and he wants to sit out/demand a trade then when he isn't under contract, go for it.

Well you didn't say that, you just said sit out. Sure, if he comes back at that point in the year, he gets his accrued season, and in that case I would definitely just tag him for 24.

Only one thing matters this year, just how AR develops. Literally every other thing can go wrong, but as long as AR develops well, it will be a success. You can turn an a roster over in two years, as long as you have your QB, you are good to go. But yes, I am super excited to get to watch a young, talented, dynamic and exciting QB, instead of the corpse of a formerly great QB (Rivers/Ryan), a hopeless reclamation project (Wentz) or a prayer that a backup can be a starter (Jacoby)

I will say I am usually all for a player who wants to renegotiate a contract, considering NFL contracts are not guaranteed (I hate when players in other sports with guaranteed contracts whine about their contract being outdated), but I can't get on board with a player doing it on his rookie contract. All players need to play the rookie contract and then what you do from there is free game as far as I am concerned.

You can't even mention Taylor and CMC as receivers in the same breath. CMC could legitimately play slot receiver in the NFL, Taylor can catch screen passes. I didn't bring up his lack of elite receiving or pass blocking to knock Taylor, just as a point to say that if I were going to pay a RB big money (and I wouldn't under any circumstances), he better be an elite receiver and pass blocker like pre-ACL tear Edge.

He isn't a natural or fluid catcher of the ball. He is fine on screens and short dump offs, but anything else is dicey.

I think its funny seeing so many here get worked up over this situation. I just can't bring myself to get worked up over a RB, especially one who isn't a great receiver or pass blocker. Is JT a great runner with the ball in his hands? Clearly. If they sign him to a team friendly deal, great! If not, they will play some rookie RB or cheap vet who will do a fine job at a fraction of the cost and the Colts can use that money on a more important position.

If he never played for the Broncos, I doubt he'd be living in Colorado. As great as Luck was early in his career, if I had the ability to change one thing in Colts history, it would not be winning Super Bowl XLIV, it would be not drafting Luck and just trading the pick for a haul and keeping Peyton and he retired as a Colt. Seeing how much Peyton is around the Broncos, in 30 years people who never saw him play will be like "wait, Peyton played most of his career for the Colts????"

Peyton is the best QB ever IMO. I don't care what anyone says about Brady, nothing will change my mind. It still hurts that he didn't play his whole career with the Colts, and I especially hate how associated he is with the Broncos now. With the amount of times you see him involved with the Broncos you'd think he played his entire career in Denver.

Posters on this board are obsessed with the idea of moving Smith to RG, I see it mentioned all the time. The Colts have given no indication that its something they are considering, and to move a good RT to guard for an unknown at RT would be a stupid risk to take.
