Get back to getting our offensive playmakers in space. Taylor. Downs. Moss.   In that order of priority.

This exactly…maybe open up with some type of rub route/crosser for one of those guys on first down next series.

You gotta stay away from 3rd and long obvious passing situations with Garrett playing like he is on the other side

  2. That was a horrible end to that 1st half.  Few issues that hurt

    - O line decided to pick the worst time to whiff pass blocks.  Disappointing that a player like Nelson who is paid to be elite had an egregious poor play in there as well

    - Steichen continues to have an oddly aggressive mindset when he clearly does not have a QB or an overall offensive unit that justifies that type of thinking.  You gotta stick with close to a 2:1 run pass ratio for this unit to be effective and avoid the costly TOs

    - Not knowing when to “fold em” with play calling…if Shane runs the ball on that last 3rd down, chances are Cleveland does not tack on the FG at end of half.  Same issue that led to 60 yard FG block earlier in the game.

In the end, I hope this doesn’t cost them the game but the reality is that we went from a situation where we should have (at worst) been up 4 going into the half to down 6.

  3. Irsay is prone to hyperbole / PR statements (anyone recall his comical “All chips in” tweet after the 2021 season) which are really meant to serve as salesmanship so his words don’t really mean much to me.

AR has shown some flashes and is better at some aspects of QB play than what I expected but the reality is that he has not had nearly any appropriate sample size of play to accurately determine what he is going to be or give him the experience/trial by fire moments to build on for his development.

I personally would not draft or think about drafting another QB no matter where we end up in next years draft, but the bottom line is he does need to show he can be healthy over a full course of the season .

  4. Well in the end, this is not surprising...when a quarterback leaves a game in obvious pain on this throwing arm and the appendage involved looks like its just hanging there, it is usually a pretty reliable indication that the time missed is going to be a multiweek at minimum or possible season ending surgery situation.  I'm just glad his rotator cuff or labrum was not involved as those things have more opportunity to lead to long term implications.  However, any surgery especially on the throwing shoulder in a professional athlete has potential for that

While injuries are not predictable, I still contend the way the Colts used Richardson was reckless and, frankly, disappointing.  I am frustrated that the organization including the coaching staff did not take more thought, nuance into how they were going to develop him and his playing style and, ultimately, it has led to this being a lost year with his development and, if we're being honest, for this franchise.   Frankly, going forward they need to have him play more from the pocket, build on his natural ability to process quickly, not panic when the rush gets to him to make multiple reads from there, use his legs, athleticism, etc on designed rollouts, scramble yards when the pocket collapses and to move within the pocket in a tight space with good footwork while utilizing his arm talent on make throws that have zip when his feet are not necessarily set.  I do not need to see him play running back anymore unless its a short yardage critical (i.e. playoff) game situation.

Yes, the above may have led to some more INTs, frustrating throws this season, but I truly believe that it would have led to a QB who was healthy, taken most of the snaps this year and ultimately been more polished and effective going into his 2nd year.

  5. - Going into this game, the script which had been established in order to compete with and possibly beat some the better teams (like Jax) that we would play was to run the ball, stop the run and most importantly win the turnover battle.  The Colts completely really did only one of those things today.  As others have pointed on here and the game day thread, the game plan had a lot to do with that as Minshew was asked to throw the ball way too much.  How much of that was due to the Jags stacking 8 in the box, who knows, but I still think Steichen is going how have to figure out ways to run the ball against loaded boxes because I guarantee most teams going forward are going to prove Minshew can hurt them deep.

    - The defense rebounded pretty nicely after giving up TDs on Jacksonville 1st two drives of the game, but I really wished they had started the game better especially with things like jumping offsides and gifting Jax a 1st down on a 3rd and short.

    - Jax is probably going to win this division and, IMO, has a chance to be a dark horse team winning the conference so no real shame in losing to them twice this year.  Bottom line, we are not where they are and need some things to be developed, other things added especially offensively before we can realistically have an expectation to beat them.

  6. This was/is the problem the minute AR went down.  I fully expected him to have some games like Minshew is having today. Heck even Manning had more than a few of those his rookie year in 1998.

The difference is that these types of games would serve as growing experiences that ultimately help him get to where you want him to be.

With Minshew, he is what he is at this point. If we don’t win, there is really to take away/build on.

To the bolded, he was drafted to be a read option/RPO QB.  I don’t see him being good unless he is.

He’s got to grow up quick, stop playing this man’s game like a kid with “enthusiasm” and all that nonsense, learn techniques and times  to get tackled less violently.

Yesterday was a great example.  No where to go, go down on your own terms.

Good points and I agree with what you said.

I guess my whole irritation with the read option stuff is that there is a lot of data, historical examples where teams that rely on those plays routinely in their offense usually end up with a dinged up QB and, subsequently, it’s hard for the offense to be effective and thrive.

Off hand Jalen Hurts is only example I can think of and he’s only in beginning of his 3rd year starting.

Kaepernick is another one I guess, but IIRC he was also missing a decent number of games towards the end of his run there at SF.
