A lot of disturbing trends so far
Pierce drop is huge. Game has turned big time since then.
Defense has looked like garbage last two drives.
-
The key is pretty straight forward IMO: stop their run game especially early to allow the Ryan and offense to build a lead.

I don't view it as a misevaluation, Ballard clearly wanted Stafford but wasn't willing to outbid the Rams (and who knows who else) and give up the 3 #1s + that it would've taken to get him - the Rams having a top draft pick like Goff to throw into the deal was a benefit that few other GMs could've matched because if you're trading a Matthew Stafford, you'd better get a starting caliber QB in return.
The misevaluation I refer to is that several times from those who cover the team (i.e. Keefer, Bowen) indicated that Ballard was not sold on Stafford. It is my understanding from those guys say that the Colts never really had any substantial talks with the Lions because of this.
It is also my understanding is that Lions took Goff so that the Rams could make the deal without blowing their whole salary structure. You gotta figure that is probably why an additional 1st rounder was thrown in.
Bottom line, is that when you consider what the Colts gave up to get Wentz (a 1st and a 3rd) was not exactly a cheap price and you look at the track record of a Stafford compared to Wentz as well as how they played this year and what their teams accomplished, it is not the best reflection on Ballard or his player assessment abilities.

Jimmy G is definitely gone.
Shanahan knows he needs a more dynamic QB to keep up.
It once again shows that the D, running game and game manager formula only takes you so far.

Not getting Stafford will not look good for many years..
It is looking more and more like one of the bigger mis-evaluatuon/fails by Ballard.

Jimmy G has a little Carson Wentz streak in him

Our D stinks. Outside of turnovers, they weren't good at much this year. And most of that was driven by Leonard. We gave up the most passing TDs. Our pass rush sucked. We took another step back in rush D too.
This 100%. The front 4 is nowhere near what the 49ers have.

Yea the people that say Wentz is as good as Jimmy G are dreaming lol. He may not have a ton of elite traits but does all the right things and just seems to be able to make the plays in the clutch when they matter. The guy is 31-15, and 4-1 in the playoffs with the 49ers.
I would agree. He is been really good at being decisive and on time with throws especially in critical situations.
Bottom line he makes good decisions and complements what they do defensively well.
Also, 49ers defense (especially pass rush with front 4) is a level above anything we have put out during the Ballard era.

I still think Wentz could be the guy, just get him some weapons and a full training camp, along with a more imaginative play caller.
His inconsistent accuracy, holding on to the ball due to lack of diagnosing pre-snap are not simply going to go awaya

Steelers just scored a TD to go up 3 with 3 min left.... Big Ben gets one last playoff game for TV ratings. Colts laid down for em
Even he played better than Wentz.

I agree Reich has stunk this game.
Poor script to start. Horrible adjustments. Should have pulled Fisher much earlier. Should have went hurry up early.
I've never said Wentz is elite. He's a complimentary QB that can be very good with a good OL and the right playcalling and support.
He has none of that.
Are the other areas of this team in your opinion good enough to support Wentz as a complimentary QB?
Also, on an unrelated note, do you think the offense would have been better this year if Rivers returned?

Been a fan for 33 years (since the 1987 season) and I can honestly say this is the most deflating regular season loss I can remember.

Either Irsay or Ballard must clean house after this game is over. It starts with releasing Wentz
I hate to say, but this is probably the right answer.
You can't suddenly lose a franchise QB like Luck and just carry on like nothing happened.
If they had just done this in 2019 when Luck quit we could have been sitting with a Justin Herbert at qb amd building towards something.
Instead, they (most likely Irsay) held out foolsih/irrational that Luck would just come back and we have been treading water the last few seasons...

if we keep the Wentz train it will the team back several years and ruin having JT. Hopefully Ballard is not that stubborn.
Well he is here at least next season.
The guy who looks bad here is Reich who was really pushing for him.
He clearly let his personal feelings cloud his professional judgement.

The wheel route was wide open but Wentz throws into traffic. Wow, Wentz sucks in big games and was a total waste of a #1 draft pick. Thanks a lot Reich and Ballard
I have to agree.
If I am Irsay I am asking some very pointed questions to those two tomorrow in my office if this holds up.
-
Wow, has a guy completely changed the narrative of his season in the last 2 games as Carson Wentz has?
-
Seriously need a long chunk play and soon.
Critical possession on offense here
-
Where was this defense to begin the game?
Why does it take one half of butt kicking for Eberflus to change things up?
So freaking irritating/frustrating.

Go Ravens, Dolphins, and Raiders - that looks like the only hope
Why Dolphins? I thought Pats were already in.

Not good by Wentz.
Oh well, at least we are getting some clarity on the QB question

Taylor still battling

Ok everybody, here’s where we find out if Wentz is our guy of the future. Plenty of time, down 2 touchdowns. If he’s our guy he’ll lead us back with no ezcuses
I would feel better about our chances if we had a better LT, playmaking receivers or Wentz could process faster
-
Gadzooks, Eberflus, see what happens when you bring pressure and play tight on 3rd down?
He really should be fired for whatever the defensive game plan was coming into this game.

The offense has been equally as bad.
Just my opinion, but its hard to get anything going when they have only had 3 possessions in the half.
The offense has not been perfect, but Jacksonville has some decent pieces on defense especially pass rushers. Our biggest weakness on offense is pass protection.
Their offense is missing a lot of skill guys and came into this game being pretty bad.

To me, this is a huge issue especially considering the amount of draft capital, $$ that has been invested in this unit.
Ngakoue has had no impact on this game so far and that simply cannot happen if this team to have a successful season.
Also expected better from Kwitty Paye coming into his 2nd year.
