  1. That is an ugly list but about half dozen guys have had their careers hurt/ruined by injuries. 2007-2014 had about as many busts as the last 3 years look to have. Still not 100% convinced it's a trend but I do believe it makes more sense to invest in WRs via FA than the draft with high picks, unless you really, really like the guy. It usually takes an year or two until they really hit their stride and FA busts when it comes to WRs is more rare than it is with other positions.

WR market exploding (if Adams contract is the new norm for about 1000 yard receivers) might change my opinion.

“I don’t know any championship team who didn’t have a great locker room and grow together,” Ballard mentioned last week at the NFL Combine. “It’s hard to just throw people into the locker room and expect a winner. It just doesn’t work that way.”

A lot of his emphasis on the locker room has been in association with free agency: you have to be careful who you bring in because they need to be fits within the locker room, and you can’t buy a locker room. Through it all, though, we’ve realized that Chris Ballard highly emphasises the locker room aspect of the team and thinks that is essential to building a winning team.

Not sure if he's what Ballard is looking for. Colts goal should be to build the best possible Colts team. If Butler fits that, go after him, if not, don't do it. Trying to stick it to New England or sending a message to them, shouldn't be on Ballards priority list. Winning championship(s) does that very thing better than anything, anyway.

The more I read about Campbell, the more I like him.  Rose from a player to assistant HC in less than ten years.

Doesnt hurt that he upset the Patriots in his last game as HC either.

Very important win too, for the mankind. Prevented Patriots getting HFA and Broncos got it, so Pats had to go to Mile High for AFCCG. Pats would've probably gone all the way to SB that either if they had gotten HFA, leaving Peyton without second ring on his final hurrah.

Though I'm not sure how much credit Campbell himself should get that win.. BB lost that game. Worst coached game I've seen from him.

Fair enough but on the Pro ranks he was one play away from winning the SB with Kaepernick and in his first season with SF took a crappy team with Alex Smith to the NFC Title Game and lost in OT.

    It wasn't a crappy team.

Best off-ball LB duo in the league (Bowman/Willis)

One of the best interior lineman in Justin Smith and another good one in Ray McDonald

Very good edge duo in Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks

And very good secondary in Carlos Rogers, Tarell Brown and Donte Whitner.

Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore is pretty good trio at WR, TE and RB. Heck, Delanie Walker was his TE2.

He had an offensive line were Anthony Davis was the 4th best player. And he was top 5-10 RT in his prime.

Some of them just arrived the year Harbaugh came there (Whitner, Aldon Smith, Rogers), some were ready to take next step as they were on their 2nd years (Bowman, Iupati, Anthony Davis), some were studs before he arrived (Justin Smith, Willis, Vernon Davis) and many of the rest had never received good coaching in their careers.

Harbaugh is a good coach but he had great rosters with the 49ers. He could be great at developing NFL caliber talent but not that good that he would be able to make average players in to Pro Bowl caliber players.. Which is what he had at almost every position on those 11-13 49ers. They probably had the most talent in the NFL this decade of all teams to not win the SB.

Does Frazier have ties to Marinelli?

They were both with the Bears, but I don't recall if their paths crossed.

Could be Frazier's defensive philosophy meshes with our present DC(?).

Haven't coached at the same time with the same team but Frazier is zone heavy guy, cover 2, keep everything in front of the defense.

do you by any chance remember 2006?  The year the Colts played the Bears in the SB?  Both of those teams got there with primarily zone defenses.  the Steelers defense has been a zone blitz scheme for many years.  Probably close to half the teams in the league run a primarily zone defense.

I wouldn't go as far as to say zone sucks but it's been quite a while since zone heavy, 4-3 over team has won the SB.. which looks like we'll be but don't for sure yet. Even teams that won the SB in recent years playing more zone (Seahawks) use predominantly pattern-matching zone. They don't just drop into spots.

I think it's revenge for Deflategate, and just a chance to make the Colts look bad and screw up their offseason. Job well done, obviously.

And I know no one will believe me, but Belichick with the Jets has been in the back of my mind all along... If we get a first rounder from them like the Jets did, it will kind of be worth it, but I doubt that happens.

It wasn't similar situation, BB with the Jets and McD and us. Except BB and McD screwed us and the Jets.

Mr. Newsome has certainly earned the right to lighten his workload in Baltimore & relax a little bit. I know Steve said that Ozzie would still be part of the Ravens Organization & it was nice to be reminded from the article that "Newsome was the first African American general manager in the NFL."

He was/is an incredible GM. 1 of the best to ever construct & revamp a roster.

I just hope that this change was a mutual decision & not some sort of force out. Yeah, I know what the reporter said but still. I want Ozzie to go out on his terms. He's earned that right.

DeCosta has declined interviews for a quite a while now, so this has probably been in the plans for years.

  9. I'll watch it. I was already about 99% sure that the Pats would make it before the season starts and had them as clear favorites winning it. All of their Super Bowls under Brady&BB era have been extremely entertaining, good football. McDaniels being charged of scheming against one of the top Ds that has all the pieces that have given trouble for the Pats offenses in the past, doesn't hurt either.

Here's what I wonder about. Where did BB perfect his grunting, minimal answer press conferences? Cleveland?

It was in Cleveland. Art Modell, owner of the Browns (Ravens at the time this happened), even sent Robert Kraft tapes of Belichick press conferences with the Browns and said 'if you hire him, it will be the biggest mistake of your life'.

I think it's kind of odd that he's got at least 6 players ranked ahead of the QB prospects.  If that is close to being true then it wouldn't surprise me to see some of the teams we are thinking will take a QB at #1 or #2 make a selection that may not be a QB.

QB is the most important position and there is so big need for them that they will be going much higher at the actual draft than on the big boards. QBs are most likely going #1 and #2. Either to Browns//Giants or team that trades up for them.

Wentz and Goff weren't top 5 prospects on many big boards at this point of the year 2 years ago (including Jeremiahs) but both went in the first 2 picks and teams traded up for them and gave up a lot of draft capital.
