S2 is the best test out there! Lets see him process with 40% pressure rate and no 5 1st round WRs.

I wonder if this is internal info they are getting or it's money that moved the line? Is it even possible for money to move the line like that?

Just adding another thing to this pot to stir...
The alumni of the Manning Passing Academy seem to be very successful in the NFL. Just take a look at the current QBs playing who attended: Mahomes... Jones... Hurts... Burrow... Allen... Prescott... Lawrence... Purdy... That's all of this past year's playoff QBs.
Levis attended, Young attended, Richardson attended...
Stroud? He ghosted his invitation...
That supposedly wasn't true. Seems like he was invited in the last minute and he'd already made committements to workout with his receivers so he refused the invite.

I want Stroud, but I think we'll draft Richardson.
Stroud is my QB1. He's accurate, strong arm, good footwork in the pocket, good balance, decent size with the ability to get stronger, and I think he can still get better as a passer. He's not the most exciting guy, but he can make all the throws, and despite his limited athleticism I think he's good enough to be a top ten QB in the NFL. The S2 stuff doesn't move the needle for me. But it's a fact that he's not a dual threat guy, and that he had a very favorable situation at Ohio State, more favorable than any other QB in this year's draft, IMO. Still, I think he's more than capable of being a better pocket passer in Year 1 than most QB prospects ever become. So he's my first choice.
I'd be more than happy with Stroud too. I still would prefer AR, but Stroud would be great too. I just hope we can unlock some of his off-structure playmaking...
48 minutes ago, Superman said:Richardson seems to be the guy the Colts would want. I'm extrapolating a lot from the history of the coaching staff, the trends in the league, the Colts' openly acknowledging that they'd consider Lamar Jackson (although that could be diplomacy more than anything else), Ballard's historical attraction to athletic prospects, and a few other bread crumbs. Richardson is super gifted, as physically impressive as any QB prospect ever (maybe the most impressive). He has a great arm, great size, he's super strong, he survives contact, both in the pocket and on the move. And as good as he can be as a scrambler/runner, he doesn't panic and run every time he's pressured; yet he still has an incredible pressure:sack ratio. Of course, he's extremely raw, and his current limitations are so drastic that, worst case scenario, he might not even be able to function in an NFL offense. But our coaching staff has experience with slowly working a gifted QB into the game, and I think they'd be very confident that they could do the same with Richardson.
One little gem of info: the Eagles QB coach last season was Brian Johnson, who was rumored to be in consideration for the Colts OC position when Steichen got hired (Steichen all but admitted he wanted Johnson, but the Eagles made Johnson OC). Johnson was at University of Florida when they recruited Richardson. So just another tangential connection between Richardson and the Colts.
I think Johnson was the main coach who was recruiting Richardson, too. At the very least IMO we will have some additional information about Richardson, good or bad, thanks to that connection Steichen has.
48 minutes ago, Superman said:Levis: I don't know about him. Physically gifted, has some technical issues that seriously bug me, and I feel oddly suspicious of him. This is not about unpeeled bananas, mayo coffee, or shirtless pics. I don't even mind the "I have a cannon" comment. But something about the way he talks and interacts, he seems really rehearsed, and even when he's trying to be down to earth and sincere, it comes off as a performance. I keep coming back to Bo Callahan (curse you, Kevin Costner!) There are rumors that he's arrogant, maybe entitled; I don't think my opinion is compromised by Internet whispers, I generally don't put stock in stuff like that, but when I watch/listen to him, something seems questionable. At this point, I don't think he would be the Colts choice at #4.
I think I have a very similar feeling. And it's possible it's completely and utterly irrational. And I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but it's definitely there. Like... a feeling that I cannot trust this guy, like there's something not quite right... That in addition to my worries about him on the field - inability to escape pressure, still looking raw with some of his decisionmaking even after being 23, about to turn 24. I really don't think Richardson is far off from him in the decision-making/processing of the game part and he's 3 years younger than him and freakier than Levis in every other aspect.
48 minutes ago, Superman said:Young: Simple for me, he's too small, and doesn't have other physical traits to make up for it. His arm is mid, and he has a reputation for being able to make plays with his legs, but he's not as fast or as quick as people seem to think he is. I think he can have some success, but I think the odds of him excelling and lasting long in the NFL are pretty low.
Yep, those are my worries with him too. Size. arm... no discernible physical trait to make up for those ...shortcomings(pun intended). Good luck to Frank, though... wonder what kind of offense he's going to build around him to try to mask his limitaions and help him not get obliterated by 150 pound hevier defenders.
48 minutes ago, Superman said:Hooker: Lots of physical talent, but I don't think he's been tested in college in any way that proves he can perform in the NFL. The Tennessee scheme is a cheat code. You need a strong arm and some accuracy to run it, so credit there, but it's really unconventional. Also, he barely looked like even a college QB until he connected with Josh Heupel, and by then, he was 23 years old, playing against guys who were 3-4 years younger than him. I think he has a lower ceiling than everyone else.
I don't think we will draft him. I wonder what kind of offense the team that drafts him will put around him. I have a sneaky suspicion that despite all the noise around him potentially going R1, he won't be drafted until R3.

On a more serious note.
To summarize my reasons for wanting Richardson - I think with QBs high end ceiling is the ultimate goal. I think floor is almost meaningless, unless you are planning to trade the guy with the high floor. But you are not drafting QBs this high for high floor or to trade him. High floor gets you at the same spot you would be if you drafted a total bust - still needing and pursuing a better QB. And this is especially true in a conference with Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Lamar Jackson and all of them are young enough that you would be facing them for the next 10 years. You need similarly high ceiling QB and I think Richardson is that. I do realize he has high bust probability. But I like what he can be at his best if he works on his craft and has the drive to succeed. He has it all physically and athletically, quite possibly the most impressive player in that regard in the history of the NFL. He has probably the best pocket presence and movement in the class, And I also think he's not as raw as people seem to think he is. I think there are clear signs that his game can be developed into not just off-structure or on-the-run monster but also as a pure pocket passer. His instincts are to actually make plays with his arm rather than run. He tries to make the right play, even if his lack of experience right now is visible in his play. I think his biggest warts are his shoddy and inconsistent footwork which leads to bad accuracy and this is especially true when he has to take something off the ball and throw with touch on shorter passes.
To summarize my reasons for thinking the Colts will draft Richardson: I think there are signs throughout all the branches of the Colts decision-making tree that Richardson(or someone like him) is what they would want. We have some evidence and reporting to suggest the 3 QBs Ballard has been high on in recent years' drafts were all big, dynamic athletes who could make plays on the move - Justin Herbert, Justin Fields, Trey Lance. I also think Steichen's offensive philosophy fits perfectly with what Richardson already does well - threaten the run which sets up the vertical one-on-one game. Steichen also brought in staff that seems built to develop a player like Richardson and build an offense around what Richardson provides - all the new offensive coaches had their most recent experience with dynamic athletes who were threat on the move - Steichen(Herbert and Hurts), OC - Lawrence, QB coach - Cam Newton and Kyler Murray, RB and OL coaches - Daniel Jones. This coaching staff screams Anthony Richardson development staff to me. Add Irsay's "mobile QB is like a 12th man to defend on the field" comment and I really think there are enough signs for me to go with Richardson in this one too.

Extension or working on Lamar.
Just kidding. Maybe.
29 minutes ago, richard pallo said:This seems like a strange move to make now. They already have 20m before this move. Would the Ravens want Buckner as part of a trade for Lamar? Do they even play a 4/3 defense? I have no idea if they do.
I don't think it's Lamar. We will need to free much more money for Lamar and we are not even using the maximum we can from Buckner's contract. In fact, the very fact that we are not moving the max money on Buckner's contract likely means it's not for Lamar.
It's possible it's for some of the remaining FAs on the market. Shaq Griffin? Rock?

I’ll have to ask @stitchesabout that one. Weird pick for a team that not only doesn’t traditionally value the TE position that much, but also has Pat Friermuth.
I just believe in drafting BPA and he happens to have been my BPA at the time. I think Mayer can be a tremendous versatile weapon and teams nowadays use multiple TE personnel with regularity, especially in combination with great young RB .

He turned out to be very good. He took the criticism personally but he turned out to be right. Fans wanted Ryan Kelly, IIRC.
This is supposed to be fun. Thankfully I never got the chance to draft Jake Fromm.
I would tell @stitches that I liked Fromm and I think he silently laughed at me.
I think my best case comp for him was Kirk Cousins... so... I know why you liked him so much

With the owners meetings starting today maybe we will have more movement on trading Kelly and Moore.
I would guess IF they get moved, it would be on draft day. Remember how we moved Henry Anderson. Hassan Ridgeway or Quincy Wilson during the draft for day 3 picks? My guess is if there is something to happen, it will happen on draft day.

Wonder why Foles hasn’t been released. Makes me think they are trying to trade him to a team that needs a backup.
Because the Colts don't need to cut him right now. You win nothing from cutting him at this point. Injuries happen all the time. Minshew or the Rookie might get injured in OTAs... or another team's backup or starter might get injured and they might need a QB. Leave it for the last moment when the money becomes guaranteed.

The moves also speak to a much-needed organizational shift in thinking. The days of chasing a few pricey veteran free agents seem to be over. The Colts, instead, are prioritizing long-term stability over short-term gains, mindful that a young quarterback is all but assuredly on his way. Irsay, for one, wants to “grow his own” at that position.
When were those days of chasing pricey veteran free agents? I really don't see much of a change in philosophy in FA. The only difference so far it seems is that we are indeed going for young QB rather than a vet... That's about it.
