Anderson is gonna be good I think but man, that was a TON to trade up for. Makes me really wonder if TN knew they were bidding against the Texans who obviously weren’t taking a QB at 3, or if they thought they were bidding against just us for 3. Either way, the Texans did us a huge favor in this trade. Sure they got Anderson who will be their DT version of JJ Watt, but they also gave up a BUNCH to do it. They also picked the QB of the bunch that has the highest odds to bust of those taken in round 1.  They bet their future on a kid who I think has already reached his ceiling.

Yeah, in essence the Texans paid a QB price for that trade up to select a non-QB, because they were supposedly outbidding another team that actually wanted a QB. It's really hard to make the value of that trade good for the Texans. Just non-QBs... even some of the best of them, don't have that value.

What do you think they should have done to get the caliber of players they got?

Kept their own pick for next year ... and gotten another top player at 12(or maybe even made a small trade up if they liked anyone from the 5-10 range... and gotten another good player at 33 today... and gotten another day 2 player next year.

That is the upside regarding your main point. They think Stroud will be their savior though.

They could have had their savior at 2 if they believe he's the guy... and then another top player at 12... and then another one at 33 and then their own possible top 5 pick next year to pick the savior of their savior(Marvin Harrison Jr) and then another day 2 player next year.

Only thing that bothers me is they ended up with Anderson, that guy has all the makings of an all-pro.

He is going to be good, but they gave up quite possibly another top 5 pick in order to get him. And next year's draft is stronger than this years.... no Caleb for them... no Marvin Harrison Jr for them...

So it's been while, I took a break from the forums for various reasons, but this pick is going to suck me right back in. Finally a fresh set of tyres to root for, and they might be super soft sports ones at that.

Although I see some things haven't changed!

Awesome to see you back SteelCityColt. Hope everything is good with you.

So I take it you are excited for the pick?

BTW seems like I've used all my reactions for today since I went on a "liking spree" after we picked AR... and now I'm no longer allowed to react to posts :D

This is great. He sounds humble and genuine. He does not sound scripted and he seems comfortable answering questions. I don't know much about him but I am rooting for him.

Yeah, the best way I've found to describe him is "personable". Some QBs seem very scripted and over-rehearsed.. and while no doubt he's had some media training, Richardson still lets his personality shine through and still tries to give real answers to most of the questions, rather than prepared PR spin.

I think it was cool that Ballard called him before the draft. (not sure if he said it was the day before or the day of the draft and told him that if he was there at 4 they were taking him.

So they picked him over all the QB's. He was their QB 1 from the beginning

Did Ballard say that? I think I missed it. BTW, this is another good sign for Richardson if he didn't leak anything. Usually when teams tell the player, everybody gets to know by the time they are picked... and with Richardson noone knew ...

If the D has to put a spy on AR then JT will tear it up

Yep... having a double treat QB opens up a ton of possibilities. It just changes the math of the defense completely. Pretty much the whole offense benefits - the RB play against LBs in conflict, the WRs get more one-on-ones, the QB gets more favorable situations in both the run and the pass...

Lol. I was feeling the same for my team but every pick until 23 was torture. Lol. I had read that if he drops, we might even trade up for him. SMH. Some of our most knowledgeable football fans said if that happened they would lose confidence in the current regime. These fans did not believe Levis should be our pick; however, when SB Nation did the draft, our writer selected Levis at 23. It was not a popular pick with most.

Levis may go early tonight -- maybe to the Rams. Or Tennessee.

We might draft a QB tonight.

Yeah, sorry for poking you and joking with you a bit about the possibility too :D

I wonder if Levis goes ahead of Hooker?

Yep... If you see my current avatar, my comment was also more about me starting to let go of the past and embrace the future! :cheer2:

Yeah, Luck was amazing, but it's time for us to move on.

Did you snooze your alarm last night? Or did you just decide to take a goodnight sleep instead of torture yourself waking up in middle of the night?

For a while it was a true torture I tell you. I didn't think I would mind it that much if we took Levis but just before the draft started all the betting sportsbooks posted insane odds for Levis to go no. 4(-2000) and I was in despair. :D I guess at least I now know for sure what my feelings would have been if it was going to be Levis...

Concealing and lying are 2 different things.

I know all about lying season and it’s not in the context that you’re using it. Respected coaches and front office folks don’t lie on the record, during lying season. They have other ways to put out false information. That’s what lying season is.

    Integrity is important to me.

I’m not impressed with Steichen, as a person. He might be a gifted football mind. But honesty is so important. Players will follow an honest coach. They won’t follow a dishonest coach.

Drafting Richardson was a good risk. His upside is tremendous. However, don’t say that accuracy is the most import trait a quarterback can have, and then draft a quarterback with a lot of accuracy issues.

The lie was either said to be misleading (if so then it was not necessary), or Steichen didn’t honestly answer the question. Either way, it’s a red flag, and it should concern everyone. It certainly concerns me.

I love the Colts, but I call balls and strikes. Some people on this board don’t like that. That’s not my problem.

He can think it's the most important trait... and still think that overall, when you take everything else in addition to accuracy in consideration, he's the best prospect. That's why I don't consider this a lie or misleading... it's just ONE part... even though important of QB play. Otherwise Jake Fromm would be a superstar in the league.

Yeah, seems super mature too honestly. And genuinely polite/personable. As far as the person goes, seems like we got a good one.

Yeah... it was funny to me watching people trying to make him out some out of touch arrogant * with those out of context quotes... like... he would talk about how he's working towards improving his mechanics and says 'You can't muscle the ball every time" and then a few questions later he'd joke about "they better catch it" and that's the one that makes the cut...

Probably the only worrisome thing AR said during the pre draft process was something to the effect he shouldn’t have to take anything off his passes/receivers should catch it.

I hope that was more an in the moment quote, because he’s definitely gonna’ have to throw with touch at times.

That was said more in a joking manner. At least I took it that way. He was being lighthearted with the media throughout most of the presser.

If we didn’t go Jelani Woods and Granson in past years, I’d agree. OL has to be #1 at the top of the list.

Here's a question. If you think you have a top TE on the board available to pick... a player who can be our Goedert or Mark Andrews... does it really matter that we have Granson? Like... he's OK, but he's not a player I would allow to dictate to me whether I pick a really talented TE in a really strong TE class. My personal favorite among the TEs is Tucker Kraft out of South Dakota State(Goedert's school)

very happy it's not Levis ... lmao

Had to endure some painstaking half an hour in the lead up to the pick and when they announced the pick, I got busy with someone at the door for another ten minutes..

I'm very happy with the pick selection though CB was the first choice. I think they tried to replace Adam Theilen.

    @NFLfan wanted Edge or CB.

I'm not sure what would be Vikings plan now, as they have an empty CB room that they didn't address in free agency, let Patrick Peterson go, and pass defense was dead last even with him. Now they don't have any pick until #87! So, what are they going to do?

I'd have been most delighted if they had traded up to #15 or so to get Gonzalez as he dropped.

CB is deep, don't worry... I like your pick.
