  1. Yea, I think it was neat that he did infact "double" his production. But Im truly not impressed by it. I think he will be an average TE, who has decent games, then disappears.

As for "doubling" his production. It came at the expense of Reggie Wayne going down early. Dwayne Allen missing an entire year, and DHB deciding  he couldn't start on a HS Varsity team....Not to mention he was playing with his college OC, and his college QB....And while he did show improvement, when that many things "go your way", I expect better than to be 14th in rec,13th in yards, 17th in TDs, 12th in 1st downs among TEs, which is essentially middle of the road.

I just dont know that he is ever going to be anything more than average....

  2. Trav;

This is not the first time he's saying this.

Why is he on this track.?

What is in it for him?

From that article, it sounded like Sapp said when Strahan got the single season sack record, he said it was a sham, and Strahan called him a jack-donkey (only not donkey)....and its built from there.

  3. Im not saying he didnt deserve to get it, but saying he may not have truly earned it.  But i dont think anyone gifted Gastineau a sack like Strahan had.  Theres a difference between a 'gimmie' play...and a literal handing of.  Especially if its the one you NEED to break the record.  Strahan couldnt get it done the entire game until that final play.  Favres whole line said it was a run play, thats why the TE was  run blocking.  Favre got up and gave the ball to him and laughed and shook his hand and all.  He joked before the game that he would give him the sack if the Packers were winning at the end.  It may have been a joke...but he actually did it.  Jared Allen also earned all 22 of his sacks.

If he truly did give it to him...its a disgrace to the game.

Im not saying it wasn't gifted to him. It was.

Im just sayin a few mistakes here and there go a long way to earning any sort of record. Whether the mistake was intentional or not, the results were the same. Im sure Allen and Gastinue had a few mistakes go there way as well. Were they intentional or as blatant as this one? Probably not...But if Allen/Gastinue had 6 'mistakes' given to them in a season and Strahan only had 4 'mistakes' given to him in a season, did Strahan not deserve it more? This is just a hypothetical of course.

  4. Its his job..its in his contract...

......we can wax philosphically about how we do or don't care....

..but its in his contract and it benefits the media which has traveled from all over the country to talk to the players

Everybody loves to get paid but they don't want to do the part of their job they don't like..

....I guess that's the Seatte way

No. His job is to play football. Unfortunately to play football at the highest level, a condition is forced into your contract whether you like it or not....And if you choose not to do it, you are fined a nominal amount. It is what it is. Unfortunate, but thats the case...He chooses not to talk, so therefore he forfeits roughly 0.01% of his money.

Its got nothing to do with the "Seattle way". Or whatever perceived vendetta or ill will you hold to an organization....

  5. Ya, I think it was a 'gift'. But in the end, to break a record there are always 'gimmie' plays. Sometimes its an easy sack, or an easy rushing td, or and easy passing td. Sometimes its the last one (like Strahan) sometimes its the one in the middle etc. It doesn't take away from the accomplishment.

  6.

In contrast if anyone approached me with a camera I'd either give them a steely glare and a stern rebuke, or I'd "stop, drop, and crawl". Hard to know for sure until it happens. The last time I was called for jury duty the judge asked us each questions in the middle of a crowded room, and I had trouble enunciating my answers because my body was vibrating from chills much like you get with a bad cold. Not surprisingly my brain wasn't working too well either. I would have gladly paid cash to avoid the experience. Not $50k mind you, but I don't have his salary either.

Thats how I take it as well. Some dudes just aren't comfortable in front of a camera, or intimate settings. His #1 job is to play football. requiring players to talk to the media I find a bet excessive.

I kind of like how Bob Kravtiz put it in his tweet...."For the record I dont care if a guy doesn't wanna talk. Why talk to a guy who doesn't want to talk to you? Waste of time."......

As for all the people saying its a waste of money, this is how you become broke etc. I dont think people realize the insignificance of that type of $ to him at this point in his life.....The guy is making $8.5 this yr, assume half is gone in taxes, so $4.25 million dollars, that $50,000 fine is 0.01% of his salary...Or in regular people terms, a guy making $36,000 just paid $396 dollars....Ya it could be wasteful, but its not going to make or break him.....Vince Young/Other athlete bankruptcy is entirely different than us normal folk bankruptcy....Heck, I just saw a popular RB singer who has filed bankruptcy twice just bought a $3.3 million dollar home......Its all relative.

  7. It is not just me, wasnt he the next Welker, a younger and better one?.

    Please read this.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000317913/article/danny-amendola-could-be-cap-casualty-for-patriots

I feel like every WR failure in NE is blamed on the WR to cover up Brady or is that just your thought process.

If he is average not sure why he was paid 10 million guaranteed.

Sure, he was 'supposed' to be the next Welker, and he came in and severely under performed.  He's a guy who has been available to play all 16 games just once in his entire career. Never had a 700yd season, and never had more than 3 tds. He's not exactly lighting the world on fire.

As for the $10. Thats really not that high. In the same FA class Jennings got $18 guaranteed, Wallace got $30, Hartline got $12.5....so of all the available FA WR (minus Cribbs) Amendola got the least amount...

It could be that every WR failure in NE is blamed on the WR, because maybe, just maybe, they really aren't that good....Not one has gone from NE and experienced success elsewhere, but Welker is arguable.

Moss, Branch, Brown, Stallworth, Caldwell, Johnson, all left NE, and all were out of the league, or non factors on other teams.

  8. Idea is not to prop him up, idea is how he raises the bar across the board especially his WRs. I am pretty sure if we swap the WRs, Manning would do just fine.

I also gave a recent example of Amendola. Don't tell me he is an average receiver.

I dont know that you could say Amendola was/is anything more than average at best. I dont know what you think he has shown to prove to be anything more than that. Why do you think he is better than average?

  9. Well every player has the risk of an injured/poor season.

My guess is that Manning will try for a SB this year and most of that Broncos team will be kept intact this offseason with a few exceptions, so I think there is a chance they could make a serious run again next year for back to back titles... but after the 2014 season, the Broncos have some serious decisions to make.

I understand this, and I know that the Clady/Koppen injuries on offense were pretty key....But of the top 8 offensive players they played a 123 games, out of 128.....Welker missed 3, Thomas missed 2....other than that every other offensive skill position stayed healthy....GB was also a high octane offense, 3rd in yards, and those players only managed 104 games, without considering the time Rodgers lost....

I dont think its possible for that to happen again....sometimes its better to be lucky than good, and I think on the offensive skill side of the ball they were incredibly lucky.

Its hard for teams to repeat success like they had. On paper sure it looks like they can repeat, but that rarely happens. Heck Brady blew out a knee on his first play after his 50td season....Manning threw 28 after his record season....

  10. Not surprising to me at all.

I'm sure a few people are disappointed though. Really seemed like they wanted him gone.

I dont ness. want him gone.

But I just cant help but to think of Brett Favre....Had arguably his best season, getting within 1 min of a SB birth in Minny, on what was considered a great young team....came back the next year, and the team and Brett were ravaged by injuries, and Brett had the worst season of his distinguished career....Team went from 12-4 to 6-10 and last in the division.....

I dont want that for Peyton.

  11. Pretty good talent at WRs for both. Like some argue saying Brady never had talent, all an excuse. His OL is the best for many years. Good wideouts, gone under utilized.

Look at Amendola this year. So much hype, 0 yards in an AFC championship game for your No.1 receiver.

I agree that Brady's OL is fantastic.(people forget Mannings OL was pretty good early on)...But I cant agree on Bradys WR, outside of 2 years, were anything but serviceable. In 13 years Brady has had 7 different receivers lead the team in yards....In Mannings 13 yr stretch, he had 3....Again, I think your understating Mannings quality options in order to prop him up...

  12. racism?

    Yes.

"The intense anti-marijuana movement of the 1930s dovetailed nicely with the intense anti-Chicano movement of the 1930s. Marijuana was associated with Mexican Americans, and a ban on marijuana was seen as a way of discouraging Mexican-American subcultures from developing.

Today, thanks in large part to the very public popularity of marijuana among whites during the 1960s and 1970s, marijuana is no longer seen as what one might call an ethnic drug--but the groundwork for the anti-marijuana movement was laid down at a time when marijuana was seen as an encroachment on the U.S. majority-white culture."

"In the early 1900s, the western states developed significant tensions regarding the influx of Mexican-Americans. The revolution in Mexico in 1910 spilled over the border, with General Pershing’s army clashing with bandit Pancho Villa. Later in that decade, bad feelings developed between the small farmer and the large farms that used cheaper Mexican labor. Then, the depression came and increased tensions, as jobs and welfare resources became scarce.

One of the “differences” seized upon during this time was the fact that many Mexicans smoked marijuana and had brought the plant with them, and it was through this that California apparently passed the first state marijuana law, outlawing “preparations of hemp, or loco weed.”"

    For example.

  13.  The whole point of this is whether or not to use Weed for medical reasons in the NFL. My point is why? There are more proven, and more successful muscle relaxers/painkillers that are already legal league wide. My hunch is that we will see a lot more injuries show up that "necessitate" the use of Medicinal Marijuana. Also we all know how easy it is to get MM prescribed to you.

Because, it may actually work. Which is the whole point.

If Marijuana can do the job of the oxy/vicodin, while alleviating concerns of prescription pain killer addiction/dependance it is something the NFL should look at very closely...Established medical communities as well...

The science behind marijuana is now being taken legitimately, and hopefully we will find out these answers....If it turns out it does in fact not have any medical purposes then the point is moot. But as the research has grown in the past 10 years, it is becoming somewhat clear there are medical benefits to this.

Its not the 1950's anymore. Scare tactics and racism are hopefully no longer a deterrent in the exploration of medical practices when it comes to pot.

  14. I am giving the people what they want. ANOTHER PEYTON/BRADY thread! HOORAY!

Someone had mentioned in another thread offensive weapons provided to each QB (among other things) and it got me wondering who was actually given what to work with, via the draft.

I limited it to the first 3 rounds (i feel most of the talent is there, and also, Im lazy)...And I also started it once Peyton was drafted (no Glenn/Marv) and after Brady was finally the QB (2001), to see what each guy was given.

The Patriots had a total of 47 draft picks in the first 3 rds from 01 to now....13 1st rd picks....19 2nd rd picks....15 3rd rd picks.

OL: Mankins/Light/Kackur/Vollmer/Sodler...5 total OL, but boy did they knock it out of the park.

Skill Positions (RB/WR/TE): Graham/Branch/Johnson/Watson/Maroney/Jackson/Thomas/Tate/Gronk/Price/Vareen/Ridley/Dobson......for 13 total Skill position players.....and they really wiffed on these outside of Gronk. Acutally, its pretty abysmal.

So NE used about 38% of there picks on offensive players while Brady has been QB. 10% on OL, 28% on Skill positions.

    The Colts had 41 draft picks from 99-2011 in the first 3 rounds....11 1st rd picks....14 2nd rd picks...16 3rd picks...

OL: Pollak/Ugoh/Castonzo/Iljana/Burlsworth... Again, 5 total OL...Talk about a stark contrast to NE...When Castonzo is arguably your best OL drafted, your in a world of hurt.

Skill Position: Edge/Wayne/Clark/Addai/Gonzo/Brown/Hartstock/Pathon/Green..9 total skill position players, and again in complete opposite of NE, hitting a few of these completely outta the park.

So Indy used about 34% of there picks on Offensive Players while Peyton was the head honcho, 12% on OL, 22% on skill positions....

Talk about two near identical strategies, but two hitting two different targets.

  15. Brady was given weapons, didn't know how to use or make them better.

    Chad Johnson

    Donte Stallworth

    Benjamin Watson

Floyd ( that guy who came from Denver, he was the fastest )

It's a big list, goes on and on.

Give these players to Peyton and tell me how he will make them look.

And dome argument?. Last 2 years without Dome in Denver, he has over 10000 yards with almost 100 TDs.

These excuses are looking stupid more we talk.

Chad Johnson- Played 1 year in NE (was it before or after the Miami debacle? I cant remember) But admitted he didnt learn the playbook. Was 33yrs old, and had fallen off a cliff in Cincy before signing.

Donte Stallworth- Wasn't much a WR to begin with, played reasonably well in NE, Played another 3yrs outside of NE, and amassed a total of 41 rec on 3 teams in 3 years....Clearly not a real good player....Also. Killed a guy..(whats with these NE guys)

Watson- Wasn't particularly 'lights out' in NE, but was a quality piece. Pretty avg TE it seems to me.

Brandon Lloyd- Had one great season in Den, which was his 4th team in 7years..Played for 6 teams in his short career (not a good sign) and had a pretty decent lone season in NE (2nd in his career for rec, 3rd in yds, so I'd say he was used pretty well) and abruptly retired....

So I don't know that you can say Brady was 'given weapons'. Servicable WR vets would seem more apt. ...He was given a 'washed up' Randy Moss, who he then used to break the TD record, and hooked up for over 2600yds and 36TDs in 2 seasons....So that was pretty sweet.

  16. I think you're both missing my point. Many people have tried harder drugs because they tried pot, liked the feeling and now either have built up a tolerance and want a better high or see how an illegal drug can make them feel good.

If you try pot you're more lielyto try something worse. Take pot out of the equation and you'll have many less people go on to harder drugs.

Quite frankly I think it's disgusting that you're both arguing in favor of an illegal(in most places) substance that alters your state of mind significantly. Especially when it has 0 PROVEN medical benefits.

You are fortunate to be in the Information Age. I suggest you take some of resources available to you and use them to educate yourself.

  17. It has a mental addiction. And Yes like I said Marijuana is a gateway drug to harder drugs as you so graciously pointed out. I Never said it forces you to, just that it opens the door for wanting a better high.

It is not a gateway drug. Again, correlation and causation are not one and the same.

Again, its like saying Nictoine, is a gateway to alcohol. Alcohol is a gateway to Pot. Pot is a gateway to etc etc. Just because someone uses one, doesn't mean it leads to another.

Plenty of people have smoked pot, and not gone on to do anything else, including cigarettes and booze. And vice versa.

Using your example, Coffee is a gateway to Pepsi. People want a better caffeine boost, so they try Pepsi. Pepsi is now not enough, now you want Redbull. Now Redbull is not enough, you want an energy shot.....

  18. I'll chance Pepsi over some highly addictive drug post pot.

And thats fine. Its your choice. Some of the top 10 most addictive substances in the world include Caffeine, Sugar, Nicotine, and Alcohol.....all deemed acceptable....All allowed by the NFL....All with benefits and downfalls, similar to marijuana use....

I just hope, that while your slamming that Pepsi, you consider that heart disease and obesity are considered by some to be the 2 largest problems in America. Not to mention the damage that is done to your stomach, and mouth.
